Chapter 170 – Cat Dad Ship got nuked?
Players in Siren City looked up, speechless. They didn’t know how they should react in this situation.
Is that a plane?
Is that a bird?
Of course not! It was a freaking meteor, and it was coming straight for Siren City! The massive green fireball grew bigger as it got closer.
There was no game notification or warning. It just appeared out of nowhere, threatening to destroy the entire city.
The majority of players logged out to avoid complications. A few fled from the city to a safe distance while some lunatics stayed around to record the entire event for YouTube.
“NIHILLLLLL!!”
Suddenly, something role-played Mohg. A colossus Godzilla-like creature emerged from the sea and opened a massive bloody portal, drawing out crimson liquid from the other dimension.
Players that remained behind rushed to the port to watch it up close. The smart ones climbed buildings and stood on rooftops, observing the major event.
Meanwhile, NPCs screamed and ran away from the city in panic, pushing and shoving each other out of the way. Children accidentally strayed from their parents and cried. They tried to ask the passing-by players for help, but no player interacted with them even though they were giving quests.
Fortunately, one of the players didn’t forsake them. An oni girl in a Valkyrie battle suit picked up a 7-year-old girl while she was carrying two infants in her other arm. Behind her, the warrior spirits also carried the lost children and followed Wei Zhi.
“It’s okay, baby. I’m bringing you to your parents.”
Wei Zhi ignored the quest pop-ups and wholeheartedly rescued the NPC children from the chaotic city. The Valkyrie leaped over the city wall and continued running for another kilometer.
While she was at it, Wei Zhi turned around, looking at Joan, aka her assistant.
“How far should we go?”
Joan’s face grimaced as she looked back at the incoming meteorite. She could clearly see Nian’s face. Nobody could tell if Joan was angry or scared, but her voice was cracked.
“We have to keep running. A battle between immortals can destroy everything within 10 kilometers.”
“T-That far?!” Wei Zhi was astonished.
“That’s an optimistic estimate if the immortals’ levels are in the 1,000s range.”
In the game world, there was a large gap between level-999 characters and level-1,000 characters. All NPCs and players could not raise their levels above 999 without passing the Immortal Trials and going through the Immortal Ascension Ritual. Once they managed to reach level 1,000, their stats would drastically change. At the minimum, their stats would be tripled compared to what they had at level 999. The majority of their core skills, spells, and abilities would evolve. Combat Stats’ calculation also improved further, allowing their regular attack power to deal over a hundred thousand points of damage.
In addition, there was a feature that made level-1000 NPCs and players worthy of being called IMMORTALS, but that was a story for another time.
Joan was aware of the disparity between a level-999 mortal and a true immortal. In addition, she was in the possession of a soul-bound artifact, which allowed her to see other people’s levels, status, and attributes.
She saw the stats of Mimir, Taotie, and the giant cat in the sky.
“Master. Actually, we should leave the kids here and run away as soon as possible. We’re at risk of getting caught in their battle.”
Wei Zhi frowned at Joan, “And you call yourself a saintess, Joan?”
“But master. We’re talking about your safety here. Your soul is bound to Asgard by contract. If you die, you will be sent to Asgard when you’re respawned. Lord Odin doesn’t want you to join our ranks yet.”
Sometimes, Wei Zhi doubted “ODIN” and “ASGARD”. They seemed manipulative, and she didn’t like how they used her as a proxy agent of their empire. Still, she couldn’t cancel the contract now as her character’s level would have gotten reset to one had she done so.
“It doesn’t matter. I won’t leave these kids behind.”
“…”
Joan pursed her lips. She lifted her visor and revealed her crimson pupils. Then, she turned around and shoved two random boys toward another female knight spirit behind her, who was carrying an old lady on her back.
“Take care of the kids for me. I’m going back.”
“Joan?” The knight spirit was taken aback.
Suddenly, Joan’s spiritual body manifested as a physical body. The female knight in breastplate armor came to life, and a claymore sword appeared from thin air.
In addition, Joan’s level changed. It jumped from 100 to 3,700, and she grew feather wings. Her race detail in Wei Zhi’s status menu was also updated.
DING
<Your retainer, Joan, has used her ultimate skill.>
<True Spirit Manifestation has been activated. Your attack and defense are triple. Your retainers are 500% stronger.>
Joan pressed her right palm against her bastard sword. It grew bigger and flatter. In a blink of an eye, the bastard sword turned into a massive flat flying sword.
“Get on, master. We’ll fly away from here. Girls, hop on and don’t fall!”
All retainers boarded Joan’s flying sword as if they had done so a thousand times in the past. Wei Zhi stared at the floating sword and hesitated for a moment. Her legs trembled, and her throat was dry.
“Don’t be nervous, master. No one can fall from my artifact.”
“… If you say so.”
Wei Zhi jumped on the sword and put the girl down. Still, she carried the crying infants as she couldn’t afford to put them on the unknown vehicle.
“GO!”
Without letting Wei Zhi get used to the flying vehicle, Joan commanded the bastard sword to climb. The tip moved up 40 degrees and launched itself to the sky, dragging the glued passengers with it.
Wei Zhi’s clenched her teeth, but the wind flowed into her mouth, making her cheek and lips flappy and ugly. The children, on the other hand, screamed in fear and crawled on the sword, closing their eyes.
After a few seconds of sound-barrier-breaking speed climbing, the group escaped Siren City and appeared above the cloud. The flying sword decelerated, allowing the passengers to take a breather.
Wei Zhi fell to her knees. Her legs turned into jelly, and she sobbed.
“WAAAAA! JOAN, YOU’RE CRUEL!”
Joan bitterly laughed at her master. She undid her transformation and hugged her.
“I’m so sorry, master. I had to do it, or we wouldn’t have made it out of there.”
Wei Zhi trembled and hugged Joan for a long time. She also refused to look anywhere other than the transparent body of her retainer.
But a voice of a child woke her up. The young girl that Wei Zhi had rescued suddenly cried.
“Mama! I want to go home! MAMA!”
As soon as the girl cried, the other kids also wailed.
“Ugh.”
Wei Zhi’s expression turned ugly. She remembered that they hadn’t brought the adults out of danger yet.
“Let’s bring them to a safe place and get back to rescue the others,” Wei Zhi expressed her idea.
The corner of Joan’s mouth twitched. She deeply sighed and lowered her visor, hiding her frown.
“… As you wish, master. Well, only if they are still alive.”
“What do you mean?”
BOOOOOOOM
Suddenly, a massive shockwave force pushed away the cloud underneath them. The flying sword also got flipped 720 degrees before it was stabilized. Magically, nobody fell from the vehicle.
When Wei Zhi regained her bearing, she turned toward the source of the shockwave. A horrifying scene was before her.
She saw a massive mushroom cloud, which cover a span of at least several kilometers.
“A nuke?!”
Joan and the other retainers looked back and gazed at the massive green cloud. A few of them gulped even though they had no saliva.
“Nian has probably landed.”
“Nian?” Wei Zhi was confused.
“I mean, I doubt that their parents are still alive. It would have been a miracle if anybody, especially players, can survive after getting hit by such an explosion.”
“… I… ugh. But these kids will be…”
“…”
Seeing how depressed Wei Zhi was, Joan commanded the flying sword to turn around. She narrowed her eyes to scan for survivors in the distance. Joan hoped that some of the parents could make it out so that they could part ways with the children soon.
But as she looked around, she found a strange flying object.
Is that a plane?
Is that a bird?
No, it was a flying pirate ship with a strange cat on it!
“Since when has the Yuan Empire developed the Mana Aerodynamic Engine and flying ships?”
.
.
A minute before the explosion…
In the sea, an invisible ship sailed away from the Siren City’s dock at its full speed. Shepherd and Magdalene helped each other, summoning the strongest gale to accelerate their ships. The fairy also used gravity magic, turning the sea vessel into a flying frigate.
Xiaomao ignored what they were doing and continued to stare at the green meteor. His third eye fixated on the caracal cat’s face. As Xiaomao got enough time to pay attention to Nian’s face, he noticed that the latter also had three eyes.
‘What can the third eye do other than boosting my stats? What are they for?’
Xiaomao had the urge to use the body switch function and revert to his human form. He wondered if his human body inherit the third eye as well.
Suddenly, Nian’s eyes shifted and looked straight into Xiaomao’s eyes.
“WAH!?”
Xiaomao fell on his butt. He got jump scared for a second.
TWITCH
As if Nian had sensed Xiaomao, the meteor changed its trajectory. It made a 90 degrees turn and charged toward his ship.
“Crap, munya!”
But before Nian got closer to Xiaomao’s ship, the massive jet of blood hit Nian and doused the green flame. The liquid surrounded the giant caracal cat, submerging it inside the massive mass of blood.
“NIHIL!!”
The blood shone in red light. Then, they detonated.
A massive nuke erupted, sending shockwaves everywhere. The wind hit Xiaomao’s ship and knocked it to the sky.
