Chapter 112: Questions
'Have something gone wrong at Feng's position?' Satella asked. It seems that the vibration on her Luna Device has successfully gotten her attention. Turning around and returning to Zhang Qin Feng's spot, she took the opportunity to replace the used magazine with a new one.
*Kachink!*
The hammer's pin was pulled to make sure that no bullet is jammed in the chamber.
'Something indeed happened.' Satella tells herself as she aimed the muzzle at the zombies coming closer in another direction. It was always better to control the numbers of incoming zombies and not focusing on a place.
Such a tactic would help, especially when trying to free themselves from getting surrounded by the horde. This kind of snail pace escalating disaster is often overlooked by other survivors. In this post-apocalypse, it was easy to get overwhelmed by the zombies through their numbers.
Of course, part of the reason was that the number of ammunition they had is limited. Even if the survivors managed to endure, there is still a concern with their availability in rations, weapon maintenance, and stamina.
Without rations, a survivor will be ended up like how Satella and her last partner. Without ammunition, they'll be the same as a sitting duck. Without the correct tool to maintain the weapon, it will break easily due to wear and tear.
And without sufficient rest and recuperating their stamina, even a veteran soldier will have a mental breakdown after a few days.
As for the zombies, they can be said to be undisturbed as long there's a piece of fresh meat and brain right before their eyes.
"Feng! To your east!" Satella's shouts caught his attention. This made Zhang Qin Feng smirked because her sensitiveness in a battle was as sharp as Stein's. Both the system and Satella actually warned him at the same time.
Reaching his hand on the Phalanx X-02 holstered on the back of his waist, Zhang Qin Feng fired a few bullets at the incoming zombies before slotting the pistol back to the holster. One of his hands was still on the Centurion Rifle.
"Satella, reloading!" Zhang Qin Feng raised the alarm.
"Ready!" Satella responded by going on top of the broken vehicle Zhang Qin Feng was on before. The firing rate was lower when she was on the top, but it more accurate than before.
"Done!" Zhang Qin Feng shouted as he finished replacing the emptied magazine away.
"Feng, we'll have to get away soon! Their numbers will keep growing! There are only two more mags in my back pocket!" Satella said. It seems that her experience has starting to tell her to look for an escape path before they get overwhelmed.
"Don't worry. I'm here." Zhang Qin Feng smiled. His smirking face made Satella looked at him carefully. At this moment, she was asking herself…
'Where did his confidence comes from?'
"Feng, my gun can handle two more mags at most. After that, the rifle's chamber will be too hot for me to keep it stable. Let's slowly find a retreating path before it's too late." she tried to convince Zhang Qin Feng.
"Here, change to this if it's overheated." unknown from where he took that long-as* rifle out, Zhang Qin Feng placed the weaponry nicely beside him while maintaining his focus to the front.
'Huh?' Satella was shocked. Since there's no magic inherited in their mentality while growing inside the culture tank, what Zhang Qin Feng just did was a mystery to her.
She slapped the rifle once. She was convinced only after finding out that this rifle was a real thing in front of her.
"What are you doing?" Zhang Qin Feng funnily looked at her. She looked like a baby that just found out that egg actually coming out from a chicken.
"Take this as a precaution." Zhang Qin Feng placed a few Shockwave Detonators on her palm and adjusted his posture. To a gunner, it was a requirement to stay on a stance for some time. But right now, Zhang Qin Feng was still considered untrained personnel.
All he had was a slightly better concentration and also the foundation that came from the Breathing Technique.
"Woo…" the sound of the zombies can be heard from behind them.
"I'll take care of it. Guard my back!" Satella quickly offered to take care of what's coming behind them.
"OK!" Zhang Qin Fend replied. Setting the slightly warm Centurion Rifle aside, Zhang Qin Feng took the third Centurion Rifle out from his Dimensional Inventory and continued firing at the incoming zombies.
Such a heated battle continued for close to half an hour before the horde slowly dwindled. Forty-five minutes later, the zombies stopped coming at them.
"Huh… Huh…" Satella was exhausted. It seems that while her stamina and mental concentration were much better than Zhang Qin Feng, she uses most of them during the battle too. And unlike Zhang Qin Feng, who had Stein's assistance automatically, Satella had to maintain alert the whole time.
This was their difference.
While Zhang Qin Feng was bothered with choosing which zombie to shoot first, Satella was torn between choices. Checking her surroundings, estimating the number of bullets left, and so on. These were all in her mind while she's fighting the zombies.
"I'll go around. Let's get back after this." Zhang Qin Feng said.
Satella could only nod at what he said because she was too tired right now to respond to him nicely. But when she noticed that the cylinder-like tool on Zhang Qin Feng's back has gone from one to two, there's more mystery inside her head.
'When did it become two? It was just one earlier… And from the lighting indicator, it seems to be fully charged?' Satella asked herself.
[User…]
'Yes, Stein?' Zhang Qin Feng responded while getting closer to the pile of dead zombies for Stein to collect the resources remotely.
[The system would like to suggest that you practice caution when it comes to the secret about this system you possessed. From an initial face reading, the individual "Satella" seems to have questions she would like to ask soon]
Stein said. It seems that the system still varied with Satella's trustability.
