Chapter 151: Zhang Qin Feng's Ambition (2)
"Everyone, make sure that you're fitted with all the equipment the base issue to you! Remember the reason why you're the chosen vanguard of the Wind Base!" said the member who used to be the guard at the entrance.
It seems he got himself into Zhang Qin Feng's eyes due to his excellent performance before this. And since he was a perfect candidate that can be trusted, Zhang Qin Feng promoted him and Queenie into team leaders.
One of the benefits as a team leader was the right to live inside the main building.
With close to fifty members in the Wind Base, they had more than enough people to execute Zhang Qin Feng's expansion plan. Out of the fifty people, twenty of them were under Marvin and Victor's jurisdiction, who's in duty with the base's improvement and development.
As for the thirty remaining individuals, they're equally divided into three teams, with ten members each, led by Satella, Queenie, and Alex.
Divided into two separate shifts, the Vanguard Shift will follow the leaders out to attack the zombies. The Defense Shift will be in the duty of protecting the Wind Base while the leaders were outside.
Today, Alex and Satella would be the ones leading the attack. Queenie will be left in the base today because she was the one leading the attack yesterday. This arrangement was actually suggested by Stein as it would allow Zhang Qin Feng to groom his appointed leaders this way.
"Boss, we're ready!" said Alex. He was standing before Zhang Qin Feng and Satella with a stern expression. Standing at close to 1.8meters tall, Alex was like a towering giant with a Centurion Rifle strapped on his shoulder.
"Good. Let's go." Zhang Qin Feng nodded. The eighteen of them left the Wind Base under the gaze of other guards. To rouse their fighting spirit, everyone standing on top of the walls was whistling as they watch the vanguards left.
The trip to where the battle took place was located about an hour away from their Wind Base. But the fight often starts much earlier than they expect due to the zombie's migration pattern.
"They're spread out much more further than before," Alex said. They're forced to engage against the zombie much earlier than they thought. At least a quarter of a mile was packed with zombies due to how widespread across this area.
Using the Centurion Rifle issued to them, they separated into three groups and spread outward. The other two groups were having it hard because they'll have to collect the Antiviral Material by hand, but not the one with Zhang Qin Feng.
"Reload!" one of Zhang Qin Feng's members hinted before kneeling on the spot to replace his empty mag. It took him less than ten seconds to complete the process, but if he were to do this without the protection from the others, he would have been tackled by the zombie twice.
The others followed about half a minute to a minute later. After everyone reloaded the rifle with a fresh mag, they proceed to push forward a little more.
And the further they got, the more zombies were blocking their path. It was crowded to the point five rifles were barely enough to stop the zombies from cutting their distance shorter.
"Boss! Please stay alert. The zombies are gathering at our position." said one of the members of his group. Their Luna Device can be said to be useless in this situation because it was filled with dots meters away from their position.
Even an idiot would have guessed that the swarm is moving closer to their location.
"Get the two other teams to come here." Zhang Qin Feng said. It seems he had no other choice but to arm himself as well. Before the others noticed, Zhang Qin Feng was standing by the side of an abandoned vehicle and started to fire at the zombies.
No many how many times it happened, they're still feeling puzzled by the fact Zhang Qin Feng could get a gun out of nowhere. With the help of an additional rifle, it bought them a few more minutes for the other two groups to arrive.
And when they were gathered, it was like the zombies were gathering together to execute a deadly attack. More than a thousand zombies are roaming this area around them. If it was not due to Stein's quick response, perhaps the group today would get overwhelmed by the zombies before they get a place to escape from their pursuit.
"Boss, we have to plan for our retreat…" Alex said. Even a fool would realize that the zombie's attention is at this spot where the eighteen of them were gathered. Their rifles were no longer capable of stopping the zombies from coming further. For each zombie they took down, it will be replaced with two to three excited zombies.
'Stein… What's your suggestion?' Zhang Qin Feng asked. The attack got many zombies, but it was also less than the number he's expecting. Although they looked like they're winning this fight, it was not in reality.
The more zombies there are, the faster they would get overwhelmed. And when the zombies were moving in a horde, their action is often uncalculable. This made them much more dangerous than before because their movement wouldn't follow the regular pattern.
[The system suggests a total retreat after five minutes. Everyone shall prepare the incendiary grenade in case of unexpected. The estimated number of zombies around the vicinity is 8,860. The estimated kill for today is between 752 to 770]
"Boss?" Alex asked. His question also caught Satella's attention because she's also waiting for Zhang Qin Feng to decide what to do next.
"We'll stay for five more minutes. Toss the grenades during our retreat." Zhang Qin Feng said. His order was clear and precise.
"Yes, Sir!" those that needed to reload immediately went ahead without the need to notify the others. As for those about to empty their ammo on the zombies, they're preparing to shift to their pistol.
Sharp at five minutes later, the group was detonating their grenades outward while retreating. As estimated by Stein, the number of their kills was 770 zombies exactly.
