Chapter 355: JUMP

“JUMP!”

Sylas’ command came at that same instant, and they all leapt into the air.

Miss Collin couldn’t help but close her eyes, feeling that the end had come. Had she been too naive? Maybe her husband from last night wasn’t even her husband—who knew what sorts of weird abilities the people of this world had now. But why go through all this trouble just to kill her?

However, after two seconds passed, she realized there was an issue…

There was too much wind, there was no impact, and… why did it feel like she was soaring through the skies?

She, Sylas, Olivia, and her boy soared over the wall, and just as they were about to come crashing down, they were slowed considerably by a strange force.

The landing was still heavy, but it was the kind of heft one might feel after jumping down two meters, not over 20 like what they had just experienced… not to mention the fact that they had just been flying at 150 kilometers an hour.

Sylas was the first to recover. He had landed perfectly on his feet, and his body absorbed the impact with ease. Olivia was still rolling on the ground, and Miss Collin had fallen on her back like a sack of potatoes, protecting her boy. In the process, she had definitely fractured a bone or two and seemed to have rolled her ankle.

But all of this was within Sylas’ calculations.

He hurried over and picked Olivia up. They were still only about 50 or so meters from the city walls, and it was likely that they could still be shot at.

As expected, the rifle rounds came quickly, but the distance was too far. Sylas wasn’t at the point that he could block bullets, but this rain of rifle rounds was too sporadic. It was clear that the changes to the laws were affecting them heavily. In another month or two, no modern technology would work at all.

To deal with them, Sylas simply dodged. He and Olivia were still the main targets, and after he picked her up, they were one target. It was all too easy.

His expression never changed as he summoned his Blue Cyclone Horse, putting Olivia onto it.

“Keep them from falling. I’ll be right behind you.”

He hurried to the side of the mother-son pair as they struggled to stand. The boy wasn’t hurt in the slightest, and that was certainly its own relief.

Sylas helped them onto the back of the horse, unfortunately having to use a <King’s Shield> charge from his stability bracelet.

The bullet tore right through it and into his shoulder, but it was a calculated injury. The bullet got stuck in his bone after losing much of its energy and couldn’t continue through.

By the time he took this bullet, the horse had already soared off into the distance, leaving just Sylas alone.

He gave the city another glance, sweeping his eyes through the army. He didn’t even seem to have much killing intent, but they all felt their hearts plunge into an ice-cold cellar.

Then, dodging bullets, he shot after his steed.

From start to finish, his expression never changed a single time. Everything was within his calculations.

“WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE?!”

A furious voice bellowed.

A man with a thick, greying mustache appeared to see the mess that was left behind. They had reacted quickly, and yet it still wasn’t quick enough.

This man was one who held true power in the military, a man who went by General Psy.

He had deep, sunken eyes that seemed to carry a ring of red around them. Although he was on the shorter side, he was almost wider than he was tall—not out of fat, but because he was a wall of muscle. He could have very well been a bodybuilder in his time, but it was clear that he had much more functional strength than aesthetic.

When he heard the reports at first, he thought that someone was bullshitting them.

They lost two high-profile targets in a single sitting because a car disappeared?

“I want information! I want to know everything about that green-eyed bastard, and I want to know it yesterday!”

Sylas’ indifferent eyes shot through the forest. All the while, his heart rate was steady and unmoved. It seemed that these days, it would take far more action to get his blood flowing like it used to.

As for how he had managed to get out of that situation, it was none other than thanks to these Scorned Wraps.

Driving a car was fine, but the moment he tried to use the car as a weapon, it reacted violently, turning the entire car to ash just like it would any other weapon.

Sylas realized that his intention was just as important as what the treasure he was holding was. When he used the car to drive, it was fine. But if he used it as a weapon, then it was unacceptable to the Scorned Wraps.

This was exactly why that poor whale had turned to ash in his hands before. He had started to use it like a weapon.

Knowing this, the rest was obvious.

He told them to time their jump just before he intended to use the car as a weapon. As such, the SUV disappeared just before their heads hit the ceiling.

At that point, they still carried 150 kilometers an hour of forward momentum and didn’t have nearly enough lift. So that was where Sylas’ telekinesis came into play.

He helped them soar over the tall walls, and the speed of the SUV gave them enough to get some nice distance between themselves and their enemies.

Of course, he also slowed their downward descent, and that was all made possible by the improvements to his Gluttony Seed.

In the end, the process was made a lot easier than he thought it would be. Though… he was likely the only one capable of seeing it this way.

‘It’s time for me to challenge a General…’
