"Hmm, this is one unique entrance."
The quartet was currently standing outside the entrance of the dungeon Zack had chosen.
The entrance was a cave shaped with pointy teeth made from a white crystal, thus giving it the look of a dinosaur's mouth.
"Seems like bad imagination if you ask me. How the heck is something that happened thousands of years ago relevant today?" Lisa asked in a disappointed tone as they entered the dungeon.
Zack quickly breezed through the options as he set the difficulty at hard from the get-go. Furthermore, the dungeon was an epic ranked dungeon meaning that all that was about to happen inside was not going to be easy.
Zack already expected the monsters to be two to three levels above the group and was ready for a challenge.
He immediately took out Eirias as the sword started glowing in his right hand. No fire engulfed the sword as there was no person belonging to the dark side near him
"Let's go."
The quartet moved inside the dungeon with their senses on high alert. They were already expecting some kind of monster to pop up in front of their faces and swallow them whole.
The interior of the dungeon was a completely flat desert with an artificial sun providing heat and sunlight over the entire place.
The quartet started moving towards the north while expecting a sneak attack.
"Either it's just me or something is extremely wrong here," Emma suddenly said while stopping in her tracks. "Where are the dinosaurs or whatever that are supposed to be her."
Just like her, the rest of them were confused as well. Zack stopped in his tracks to glance around once.
"Let's head to the boss room." Zack then summoned Chastiefol and put the spear in its subform.
Emma, Lisa, and Hayden exchanged a look before looking at Zack as though to say "You expect us to sit on a stuffed toy bro?"
"Your choice," Zack replied with a shrug as he lifted the stuffed toy in the air and shot forward. The trio regretted their choice at that moment as they closely followed Zack.
A few minutes later, they reached the end of the desert which was surprisingly a river.
The book that Zack had got the information about the dungeon from told him that the last boss was actually a huge whale-type dinosaur that was there in the sea.
However, the sea was empty too despite the dark clouds that were appearing overhead. It seemed as though a storm was about to appear.
When the clouds parted apart, the group expected some kind of beast to appear and they got ready to fight.
But what appeared would send chills down a person's spine.
Two floating eyeballs appeared out of the sky with six wings visible behind their back. The two eyeballs descended to the duo's level before they started enlarging.
Soon, they were the size of two elephants and glared at the quartet.
[ The Skill 'Judgment of the Soul' has been used. ]
Zack's entire body froze as a cold feeling slowly started rising from his chest. He felt his heart skipping a few beats as the judgment skill measured his soul.
It was the same skill Hayden had in his previous life and the one that Zack wanted to obtain. His soul was immediately judged alongside the other three.
While doing so, Zack used inspect, knowing that it might not work. However, it worked.
[ Left Virtue (Level 1000): A being of heaven. Has the virtue of the left side. ]
[ Right Virtue (Level 1000) A being of heaven. Has the virtue of the right side. ]
Zack's eyes fell out of their sockets, rolled over the sand, and entered the sea before being flown away.
How the fck could something have 1000 level when the maximum level currently was 100?!
Zack wanted someone to answer him and it was definitely not going to be two eyeballs.
'Foolish of you to think that we are just two eyeballs.' The right eyeball said through telepathy before it mentally sneered. As for how it did that? Zack had no idea. 'You should be happy that someone like us is going to kill you.'
"Why? Did some third-rate person finally run out of plot to keep my life normal and interesting and decided that it was time to speed things up by killing me?" Through sheer force of will, Zack managed to speak.
The sword in his hand glowed once and so did Gugnir.
'You possess what belongs to heaven. Return the crystal sword to us and we will give you a painless death or else you will suffer great consequences.' The left eyeball said as Zack felt his throat contracting, thus making him pant.
He would have given Eirias in normal cases yet he still remembered how he had died back in the infinity void. Zack doubted that even someone like Kai could make him live once again.
Zack turned his gaze upward the clouds to see that thunder was rumbling all around. A column of the clouds was especially parted as if waiting for someone to appear through.
'Someone to appear.' As though he had just been relieved from a warzone at the end moment, Zack stared right at the two eyeballs.
"Spi…rit Sp…ear Chastie…fol, Sev…enth form, Guardian!"
Zack managed to say the words as the stuffed subform whipped forward before vanishing. He felt as though his throat was about to be crushed however, he suddenly felt a drop of tear fall on his body.
[ You have been healed by the tears of a Phoenix. You cannot be put under any type of curse, no matter who is putting it. ]
"So these two MOFOs decided that it was a good thing to harass my vessel." A familiar voice resounded through the place as the Phoenix descended from the sky and hovered directly above Zack's head.
He released a screeching sound that pushed the two eyeballs back, thus allowing the quartet to breathe.
[ The Phoenix wants to use your body as a vessel.
Compatibility: 100%
Yes/No? ]
Zack's eyes turned wide as he realized what the true meaning of guardian was. One of the three divine items obtainable by players in his previous life was an amulet that allowed the owner to have a guardian animal.
That guardian could enter the body and use it as a vessel. Depending on the compatibility rate, the person would either receive massive damage or would just remain normal.
The amulet had been passed to many owners before it finally managed to find someone who had a 100% compatibility rate.
That person then became a one-man army that could wipe out a kingdom on his own.
'I wonder if you will do the same thing.'
Before the eyeballs could recover, Zack pressed yes. For a moment, it looked as though the Phoenix was smiling. A window then appeared in front of Zack's eyes.
[ ??? (Vermilion Phoenix) (level ???):
Throughout history, only a single Vermilion Phoenix can exist at a time in the entire universe. The Vermilion Phoenix's title can only be passed by the Phoenix itself by providing its entire life force to a Phoenix it thinks is worthy of the title and powers.
The Vermilion Phoenix is the head of all legendary and mythical birds.
The tears of such a beast can heal any disease or injury, physical or mental. Such a bird cannot be killed as he/she will rise from his/her own ashes. ]
