Chapter 298: A Bloody Battle (2)
“Damn! Do not get forced back!”
The young general, Romils Hotten slashed at the orcs running in at him and screamed, but
“Kuuk!”
“Kuk!”
In front of the rush of countless orcs, the ferocious knights and soldiers started collapsing one by one.
“Die!”
Romils turned his head and swung the longsword which flickered as it reflected light.
Slash!
The heads of several orcs were cut off but,
“Die! You stupid humans!”
“Die!”
Their numbers were just too great. There were so many that their legs would trip others while their backs would be pushed by others. Even if there were orcs that didn’t want to fight, they would’ve been forced into attacking by their allies.
Besides,
“We’d be sad if you forgot about us.”
There was a race that danced through the dense number of orcs while swinging their swords. Each swing of their sword cut off a normal soldier’s limbs and while saving the soldiers that could lose their heads with one mistake, Romils shouted.
“Why are the dark elves fighting with the orcs!”
His scolding voice echoed away in the battlefield. The race that had been dancing with their thin longswords was none other than dark elves. Romils clenched his teeth as disbelief filled his gaze.
‘Both elves and dark elves should hate orcs tremendously though.’
They were existences that couldn’t stand together and yet here they were, attacking them with their forces added together.
“That’s how the world is isn’t it? The enemy of yesterday becomes the friend today and vice versa, no?”
One of the dark elves tilted his head with a cruel grin and it was apparent that he was sneering.
“Kuuk!”
“Kuk!”
At the same time, cries could be heard from the surrounding soldiers.
Grit
Romils clenched his teeth.
‘There’s no way to run anyways.’
It was impossible to run and besides,
‘I must find Prince Manus.’
In the midst of countless messy battles, he had lost sight of Manus Persion who had volunteered to be in the lead. Just as how they were in trouble, it was obvious that Manus was in a desperate situation.
‘Even if we die, we must let our Prince live.’
It was a body and life dedicated for Prince Manus in the first place.
‘There’s no turning back.’
Romils breathed in deeply.
‘Charge forth with life on the line!’
After cutting the orcs in front of him, Romils raised his longsword up.
“Make the charging formation!”
When he gave the order, the knights and soldiers that had been struggling to fight back formed the shape of a needle. The tip of the needle was where Romils was in.
“Break through!”
Clenching his teeth, Romils bellowed.
“Yes sir!”
The knights and soldiers replied with resolute expressions.
“Stupid humans.”
With scoffs, the dark elves held the slender longswords out. When they did that, the bulky orcs swung their clubs and greatswords as they walked forward.
“We will trample on them.”
“Leave it to us.”
They seemed to be in greed of the military merit and were following their instincts. Around Romils Hotten and his troop that had resolved themselves for death, a cold aura surrounded the orcs and the dark elves. It was to the point where it wouldn’t be strange for them to break into a fight immediately but it was then,
Paaat!
A white pillar of light appeared out of nowhere.
“Hup!”
The humans, orcs and dark elves all took steps back in surprise.
Sphat!
The pillar soon disappeared and the eyes of everyone were gathered to the spot where the pillar had appeared but they found out that nothing had changed.
“What...”
When they were all about to tilt their heads
Kwang!
A black pillar, or rather, a steel stick came stabbing down towards the ground from the skies.
Psssh.
Bits and pieces of rocks splattered around.
“What in the...?”
“What’s going on?”
All the races raised their heads following the end of the black rod with puzzlement. Their gazes ended up towards the skies and,
Sphababababat!
Together with a sharp sound, something black started falling towards the ground as the steel rod that reached into the skies reduced in length at a quick rate.
Finally,
Kwaaaang!
The black object landed on the ground with a heavy sound.
“Huhup!”
“What? What is it?!”
The humans, orcs and dark elves all made surprised expressions and widened their eyes. Surprisingly, the identity of the black object that had dropped down from the skies was a human – a masculine youth. With his right knee bent on the ground, his right hand was holding onto the shortened stick but his head was lowered so it was hard to see his appearance.
Gulp.
They had nervous expressions as it was difficult to tell whether he was an ally or an enemy. It was then,
“Huu, that was close. To think I was teleported to the sky.”
The low, deep voice destroyed the silence of the battlefield. The youth raised his head with a faint smile and...
“Ah...”
Romils who had been at the very front let out a low mutter. It was an extremely familiar face and seeing that, he widened his eyes and made a startled expression.
“Y, your Majesty Roan Lancephil?”
The youth was Roan Lancephil who had been teleported to the area around the Eviance district of the Persion Kingdom thanks to Kalian’s help. He stared at Romils and nodded his head lightly.
“Been a while.”
As soon as his words ended, Romils understood his rudeness and deeply lowered his head but Roan breathed in deeply and said in response.
“Let’s have the proper greetings done later. First...”
His head turned and his eyes faced the ones standing behind him.
“I must take care of these guys.”
Orcs and dark elves filled his vision.
“R, Roan?”
“The God of War?”
They had also heard of Roan from the rumours and within their eyes was befuddlement. Pulling the rod, Trivias Spear in his hands towards his chest, Roan made a strange expression and the breathtaking pressure left his body at once.
“Heek!”
“T, t, this bastard!!!”
The orcs and dark elves let out sounds hysterically and raised their weapons. They thought that even the God of War Roan wouldn’t be able to overcome the overwhelming difference in numbers.
However, that was a complete misjudgment. They were like fools rushing in where angels feared to tread as they ran in towards Roan.
“Hmph.”
With a light scoff, Roan kicked off the ground.
Paaaat!
Black flames scorched up along the Trivias Spear as the spearhead dissected the dimension before slamming the ground.
Kwaaaang!
Pieces of rocks splattered alongside the embers. At the same time, the tough ground had a deep hole as the orcs that had run in vigorously all ended up as red ashes.
“Kuuk!”
“Uhuk!”
“Uaaak!”
The orcs that had been caught up by the flames to the side screamed as they rolled on the ground. At once, a road was paved in front of Roan as he whispered in a low voice without even turning to stare at Romils and his troops.
“Just follow me from behind.”
Hearing the assuring, trustworthy words that they couldn’t help but trust, the soldiers and Romils grasped their weapons tightly before sticking closer towards Roan’s back.
Taat!
As if he had been waiting, Roan ran at the lead and swung the Trivias Spear to the sides.
Kwang! Kwang! Kwaaaaang!
Every time he did that, grounds erupted as roars filled the area. Orcs and dark elves either became ashes or caught flame and rolled on the ground.
“Damn it! Block it!”
“Block with your body or something!”
They clenched their teeth since they would die anyways if they were to fall back.
‘That being shows no mercy or forgiveness.’
‘He does not allow failure.’
In the end, they had no choice but to fight to the bitter end. They fought back with their lives on the line but,
“Foolish.”
Roan lightly moved his feet with cold words.
Kuung!
A heavy sound resonated through the battlefield. At once, a semicircle-shaped wave appeared with exception to the place where Romils and his soldiers were in.
“Hmm?”
“Huh?”
Feeling the ominous and vicious aura embracing their bodies, the dark elves and orcs stopped their feet and it was then.
Paaaaat!
Reddish-black flames erupted out from the ground.
“R, run!”
“Uaaak!”
Without even being able to dodge the flames that came erupting out from their feet, the dark elves and orcs received the flames head on.
Hwarururuk.
Those flames resembled hellfires. Soon, the flames that had been blazing away disappeared as if they had been an illusion, but the orcs and dark elves that had blocked the way had disappeared along with it.
They had all turned into red ashes.
A breeze touched the battlefield as silence befell the area.
Gulp.
Let alone the orcs and dark elves further beyond, the soldiers coming from behind all gulped in nervousness but Roan still wore the same faint smile.
“Let’s go.”
He once again kicked off the ground.
“Ah, yes!”
Romils and his soldiers came to things and immediately chased after his back. The orcs and dark elves that had barely saved themselves thanks to being further away from Roan could not run it fearlessly anymore.
Instead, when Roan approached, they avoided him and opened a path before him. Feeling a strange lump in their throats, Romils and his soldiers glared at them.
“Kuk.”
The orcs and the dark elves quickly averted their gazes and lowered their heads as fear filled their eyes.
‘Ah! This is the power of the God of War, Roan Lancephil.’
Romils was moved and it was the same for the soldiers and knights of his troop. Watching Roan run one step before them, they felt a sense of deep relief but then,
Kwaaaaang!
A pillar of dirt erupted out over the hill along with a loud deafening roar. It was a massive pillar of dirt which they had never seen before.
***
“It has really been a while since I’ve come to Regium.”
Looking around, Kalian made a bright smile. As the capital city of the Estia Empire, Regium was the biggest and the most flourishing city of the continent. There were countless tall, fancy buildings to the sides but Swift Clock who was right next to him had no leisure to see all that as he retched on with his back bent.
“Uwek.”
It was the side effect of teleportation magic. Since even a skilled military official Pierce had shown dizziness after it, Swift who was a government official down to his bones was obviously having a hard time from it.
“Your body’s quite weak.”
Kalian tapped on Swift’s back. Following his palm, a red light flowed faintly as he secretly sent in mana for Swift who had been in agony.
“Huu. I feel a bit better now.”
Perhaps it had been effective as Swift wiped his lips with his sleeves while making an awkward smile. Seemingly embarrassed, he quickly changed to the main topic.
“This is the capital, Regium huh. Then shall we find Duke Voisa’s house first?”
In response, Kalian grinned and pointed at the mansion in front of him.
“We’ve found it.”
His voice and tone seemed like he was having fun as Swift’s awkward smile deepened.
“Ah...”
Without even being able to find words to say, he only nodded his head but inwardly Swift was very surprised.
‘Just the fact that he can use teleportation magic is amazing and yet he can select the destination accurately to move...’
Although he didn’t know much about magic, he could tell roughly how hard and seemingly impossible that was.
‘Indeed, not just anyone can become the representative of the dragons.’
Surprise was evident from his gaze.
“Shall we go in?”
Kalian pointed towards the mansion with his head but Swift hesitated in confusion.
“But the gates are locked tight.”
Just like he had said, the entrance of Duke Voisa’s mansion was sealed tight. On top of that, the walls built around it were all extremely tall, making it impossible for people to jump over it unless they were knights skilled in the laws of mana.
‘They’re very strict with the security.’
Staring at the blades that pointed up from the walls that could pierce through anything at any given time, Swift let out a sigh.
‘Well indeed, if the content of the letter is all true, there’s no way they’re not strict with the security.’
Thinking back on the contents of the letter he had received from Duke Voisa, he nodded his head. It was then that Kalian who had been wandering in front of the front gates gently pushed his right palm forward.
Tap.
As soon as his palm touched the gate.
Kung.
The extremely large and heavy main gates collapsed like it was a joke.
“Uh?!”
In front of the sudden development, Swift dropped his chin but Kalian shrugged his shoulders with a bright smile.
“The hinges must’ve rusted.”
After saying things that made no sense, he walked towards the mansion in large strides.
“Uh, uh, uh. Go together!”
Swift quickly came to himself and followed from behind but their feet were forced to a stop soon. When they had passed the gates and had entered the wide gardens of the mansion,
“Who is it!”
“An intruder!”
“The gates have been broken!”
“Are you bastards from the Church!”
Heavily armed soldiers and knights of the Duke family showed themselves in a bunch and the numbers were so great that the wide garden had been filled at once. They pointed their sharp killing intents towards Kalian and Swift.
“I think there’s a misunderstanding.”
Swift quickly stepped forward and waved his hands.
“We came because of the letter sent by Duke Voi...”
When he was about to say more,
“There’s no need to talk on and on like that.”
Kalian stepped forward again and pushed his left hand out. The knights and soldiers gave frowns when they saw the bold and nonchalant attitude of Kalian. Then a faint smile appeared on his lips as,
“All of you, go to sleep.”
A soft voice left through his lips and,
Tak. Tadak.
The soldiers and knights that had been shooting fierce gazes at them with heavy armours all collapsed at once. As the people filling the garden densely all collapsed, a cold breeze touched their cheeks.
“Huhup!”
Swift gasped with a greatly surprised expression but on the other hand, Kalian still wore a nonchalant expression with his left hand reaching out.
“Kugugugugu.”
“Zzz. Zzz.”
The snoring voices of the fainted soldiers and knights filled their ears and only then did Kalian retrieve his hand before turning towards Swift.
“They must’ve had it rough guarding the mansion so let’s have them get some rest.”
A calm voice left his lips as he continued on by waving his right hand.
Kugung!
The entrance gates that had been fallen on the ground returned to its original spot and showed off its greatness.
Gulp.
Seeing the scene before him, Swift swallowed in empty air. On the other hand, Kalian seemed to be on a picnic as he jumped through the gaps between the collapsed soldiers and knights as he headed off deeper into the mansion.
“Ah!”
Swift came to himself and rushed to chase after him. The two soon arrived at a fancy building located in the innermost region of the mansion but the gates were, as expected, sealed tight.
“Shall we go in?”
Kalian asked with a little smile. Swift did not mention that the gates were locked as he had seen clearly what had happened before with his two eyes. But instead, there was something else he wanted to ask.
“Excuse me um...”
He had an extremely careful and polite attitude. Kalian tilted his head with a bright smile gesturing to him to ask anything he wanted. After some hesitation, Swift continued with a voice more careful and polite than before.
“You are the representative of the dragons right?”
His eyeballs quivered slightly.
“A representative right?”
He asked once again as goosebumps filled his body.
‘Is he a drag... no, no, no haha no way. There’s no way.’
Swift forcibly deleted the hypothesis that appeared inside his head. Whether he was oblivious or not to those thoughts, Kalian smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
“Who knows? Huhuhu.”
The strange smile continued on as it left behind some room for thought.
“Ah...”
With a low mutter, Swift staggered. It felt like his thoughts had been on the mark.
Kwang!
The gates that had been sealed tight were pushed open and
“Welcome.”
Betraying all expectations, a polite voice was heard. The owner of the voice was a man entering the elder years of his life.
