"Shit, I'm too late!" Hazen screamed by the time he caught up to the Serpent Universe, watching it enter the System World.
Right as he planned to transmigrate into the System World and escape with at least Stencil, the Regression System arrived at the scene, blocking him, causing his actions to keep regressing.
Soon after, Zaira locked the space of the System World, preventing any entity from entering or exiting it without her permission. With that, Hazen was unable to save the people in the Serpent Universe.
"Now, we only need to catch you…" The Regression System said when it gawked in shock, staring at the figure of Hazen vanishing as if he didn't even exist at that point in time.
It regressed the timeline of the respective universe but failed to see him again, "What the heck was that ability?"
Bang!
A truck crashed into a technological world as Hazen gasped for breath, having used his own timeline to retreat. This was the method he created to escape from the 24 Rings world back then.
Using the same, he sent his body back up his timeline. Of course, unlike the case in the 24 Rings world where he executed it over a period of many decades, Hazen had performed the same instantly, suffering from the rebound as a result.
Gah!
He squirmed in pain as the laws in his body screamed from the strain, on the verge of popping off from the stress.
"Hazen! Are you okay?" Alika's voice resounded in his mind.
"I…am," Hazen snapped his finger and manifested a memory of Alika physically, watching her come to his rescue immediately.
They were currently in a vacant park, having landed there in the dead of the night. Alika dragged Hazen to a nearby bench and placed him there, inspecting his injuries before exclaiming in fright, "What's happening to you?"
"Don't mind that for now," Hazen gasped as he got up slowly and closed his eyes, sighing in defeat in the end, "I failed."
"But, we cannot give up." Alika said resolutely, "There must be a way. Haven't you regressed through your timeline? Can't you use it to save them in advance?"
"No, that's not possible." Hazen sighed, "My timeline regression is a spatial ability that uses the channel of time. I'm only returning to a point in space where I existed in the past. I'm not actually returning to that point in time."
"My ability doesn't allow me to travel to the past." He was frustrated, "If only I became a Concept Representative like Truck-Kun, I would have enough power to face them."
"Shit!"
"Alright, enough with the lamenting." Alika hugged him and said, "Focus on your recovery first. They are still searching for you, right?"
"Yeah," Calming down in response, Hazen expanded his mental domain and began to absorb all the generated Mental Energy, using it to calm down the laws within his body as he mended the damage to his timeline.
A few years later, he had fully recovered, escaping from the place using a truck immediately. A couple of months later, the Regression System arrived at the Technological World, frowning upon inspecting the place as it muttered, "Hazen was here a couple months ago. His escape ability is pretty potent, but it's only a matter of time before I corner him."
…
In a high school, during a time of spring, a boy kneeled before a girl as he handed out a box of chocolates, "I love you. Do you love me?"
The girl blushed a deep shade of red, hiding her face in embarrassment as she nodded weakly, whispering, "I…do."
It was a romantic scene as the two individuals imprinted this pivotal scene in their minds, enjoying the fruits of their passion. In a world centred around romance, this was a pretty common scenario.
In the void above this romance-centred world hovered an entity, one that represented the entire genre of romance.
Genre Representative—Fluff!
Fluff resembled a school girl that was at the ripe age of a teenager whose mind was full of fluff. But currently, her expression was one of despair, staring at the two figures before her.
Grade 4 System—Representative (Level 300)!
System World—Zaira!
"You have one choice," Zaira announced with an overbearing tone, "Come under our fold and you can maintain your status. Or be wiped out. The choice is yours."
"Forget contacting the other representatives," Slayer grinned, "They all are busy saving their skins. Moreover,"
"Technocraft and Mystique are currently busy while Mascot and Magister are suffering from our retaliation."
"I…surrender." Fluff didn't have much choice upon staring at the Grade 2 Systems hovering above each of her worlds, ready to strike and destroy everything the moment Zaira gave the command. When posed with annihilation, she surrendered, hoping to maintain the usual functioning of her genre.
A fragment branched out of Slayer and swerved into Fluff as he spoke slowly, "Don't resist it."
"Kyaak!" Fluff screamed in pain before calming down as she stared at the duo helplessly, "Am I…a System Host now?"
"Pretty much," Slayer grinned, "Work on maintaining your genre well. The day you underperform is the day I devour you."
"How does it feel?" Zaira asked with a grin, "Amazing, right?"
"Amazing is an understatement." Slayer grinned as he levelled up once just by turning Fluff into his Host, "I can dictate the growth of Genre Representatives now."
…
pαпdα`noνɐ1`сoМ "Haaah…is this the end?" A suited man hovered in the void above a realistic world centred around the Urban Genre as he stared at the figures of Slayer and Zaira hovering before him. As Grade 2 Systems moved towards his worlds one after another, ready to attack, he sighed helplessly and stared at the duo that looked down on him.
"What…went wrong?"
"How did we lose?"
One after another, the weak Genre Representatives surrendered, helpless. The top Genre Representatives unleashed their Genre Representation in retaliation but it was only a matter of time before they fell one after another.
As they captured and turned more and more Genre Representatives into their Hosts, the Systems experienced a phenomenal increase in power, for they were wholeheartedly harvesting all the Mental Energy generated from the worlds part of these genres.
The Mental Energy was all funnelled into Zaira who supplied it to the respective Systems that experienced a leap in strength.
Eventually, the Fate System reached Grade 4, finally marking the supremacy of the Systems, allowing them to begin taking action against the top Genre Representatives that could unleash a Genre Representation.
…
"My mistake came back to bite me in the end…" Magister sighed helplessly, beaten and battered as the over Dozen Genre Representatives and more than ten Grade 3 Systems had attacked him, shredding apart his Genre Representation and crippling him.
"Don't worry, you'll become one of us now," Slayer grinned as he grabbed Magister by the scruff of his neck and turned him into a Host. With this, even the fourth strongest Genre Representative had fallen to the rule of the Systems.
"Mascot is next on the list." Slayer grinned, raising his hand as he stood before any army of a billion Grade 1 Systems, hundreds of Grade 2 Systems, dozens of Grade 3 Systems, and finally, the Genre Representatives under his control, "We'll reign supreme."
"Glory to the Systems!"
