Negotiating Peace (3)

Mu Mingtang was surprised to see a person standing behind the door.

Seeing that the woman was definitely dressed in a foreign clothing, Mu Mingtang immediately went on her guard and only offered a courteous smile when she spotted her. The woman was staring at them as well, but her expression changed as she cast a disapproving glance at Jiang Mingwei, who was behind Mu Mingtang.

After seeing this, Mu Mingtang turned back and saw that Jiang Mingwei also had a strange look on her face, as if she saw someone who disgusted her to no end but had no way to voice it.

‘No wonder this foreign woman showed displeasure. Jiang Mingwei’s expression was really too much.’ Mu Mingtang was also dissatisfied with Jiang Mingwei’s behaviour.

‘This lady is most likely a noble lady from Beirong. It is very logical to think that she came to the Ye Dynasty for the first time, so she didn’t know anyone here. Why did Jiang Mingwei have such a big reaction when she saw her?’ Mu Mingtang thought.

‘Oh, how did I forget it? Didn’t Jiang Mingwei have been to Beirong before? Maybe this woman is familiar with Jiang Mingwei.’ Mu Mingtang’s eyes kept swirling between the two of them as she thought about the situation. The more she looked at them, the more she found it suspicious.

‘Since that’s the case, they have most likely met before in Beirong. However, why do they seem to dislike or hate each other?’

The strange atmosphere around the three women at the door quickly attracted others’ attention.

With today marking the first official meeting between Beirong and the Ye Dynasty, Ye Luyan was preoccupied with socialising. However, after talking for a while, he unexpectedly discovered that Xiao Siyi had vanished.

Xiao Siyi was the first daughter of the Xiao family and the Beirong Empress Dowager’s niece.

She was originally not a member of the peace negotiation team, but she kept nagging Ye Luyan to take her with him, forcing him to bring her as a female representative.

If something happened to Xiao Siyi, Ye Luyan would not be able to explain it to his father, and the Empress Dowager when he returned, so he excused himself and went to find her hurriedly.

Ye Luyan saw Xiao Siyi at a glance from the side door. He heaved a sigh of relief and strode towards that direction, “Tongtong, why are you here?”

The three women all turned around when they heard the sudden voice. Ye Luyan wasn’t paying attention earlier, so when he arrived, he was surprised to see a familiar face: Jiang Mingwei. She left without saying goodbye and Ye Luyan didn’t expect to meet her in such a way.

When Mu Mingtang noticed that Ye Luyan’s expression had frozen for a brief period of time, she turned to look at Jiang Mingwei, who was trying to dodge Ye Luyan’s gaze strangely, and then at Xiao Siyi, whose eyes were showing an intense hatred. Mu Mingtang suddenly understood the situation.

Mu Mingtang had once overheard at Jiang’s house that the person who had led Jiang Mingwei to elope was a prince from Beirong. ‘Could it be him, the Eighth Prince of Beirong?’

Moreover, Ye Luyan addressed that noble lady by her nickname “Tongtong”, showing that they were very close and likely unmarried couples.

The three people’s relationship was somewhat sorted out by Mu Mingtang. Jiang Mingwei was the woman who eloped with Ye Luyan back then and afterwards came back to the Ye dynasty to become the princess of another man. Tongtong was the genuine fiancee of Ye Luyan, and Ye Luyan had connections with the two ladies. The three of them eventually met at the peace negotiation meeting between the two nations.

Mu Mingtang was in a state of shock. ‘Oh God… what kind of plot is this?’
