The figure sitting atop the chief's seat still hasn't responded after the man below finished recounting his story. It's as if the report was irrelevant and should not have been reported at all.
The figure waved its hand as if telling the person below to scram. The wave of his hand produced a breeze that reached the man below, causing him to shiver in fright. His balls constricted and for a moment, he felt suffocated by the air that brushed past him.
The feeling of the wind touching his body reached the man, he knew that it was the signal for his leave. Without wasting any more time, he instantly got up from the kneeling position as he slowly walked away, all the while his head still lowered to the ground.
After the man closed the room's huge door, a group of both men and women suddenly emerged from within the room.
They were already there from the start, but as it was not their time to butt-in, they didn't dare to produce any sound, lest the chief would get angry and kill them for their misbehavior.
One man from the new group stood just a little below the chief's seat. He was facing the side of the seat, while the handful of men and women started to kneel on the ground one by one.
The man who was beside the leader was the second in command. Aside from the chief, he was the second strongest person inside the town hall.
With his head lowered in respect to the person before him, the second in command spoke reverently. "What should be our action this time, chief?"
The chief didn't respond, and instead, it was one of the men kneeling below who reacted.
"No need to trouble the chief in such irrelevant matters, Sebastian. We have already been silent for over a month, I think it's time for us to venture out again." The man said, his gaze never left the ground, even though he acted a little defiant to the second in command Sebastian.
"Are you that eager to eat meat again?" Said a lady with a coquettish voice.
"Hmmph! Who isn't?" The man harrumphs to the lady's hypocrisy.
As the two started to bicker, more and more followed suit, causing the once silent room to become noisy.
Sebastian suddenly felt cold-sweats running down his back. He mustered up his courage and instantly shouted in a voice with a mix of rage and fear.
"SI...SILENCE! YOU ARE BEFORE THE CURRENT CHIEF OF THE TOWN DAAN! ANY MISBEHAVIOUR WILL LEAD TO YOUR DEATHS!"
Instantly, the room became as quiet as a serene mountain. Sounds of gulping saliva permeated the room as all the men and women around realized the brazenness of their action.
Instantly, all of them prostrated to the ground, their bodies shaking in fear.
"P...PARDON US!"
They said in unison.
Sebastian had also knelt to the ground this time. Compared to losing one's life, kneeling isn't really a problem.
The person sitting on the chief's seat waved its hand. Like a King dismissing his subjects, the person spoke indifferently. "Get out for now! 'We will talk with Sebastian first!"
As the last line was uttered, the kneeling men and women instantly got up and hurried outside the room. As they closed the door, they couldn't help but huff in fear as they wiped the cold sweats running on their forehead.
Sebastian went to the area where the men and women had knelt before. He bent his knee in one swift motion and knelt to the ground as if he had already done it many times.
"Greetings again! Chief!" Sebastian said.
The chief nodded its head and waved its hand upwards for Sebastian to get up.
"Speak, Sebastian. What should be the appropriate action this time?" The chief said with a low but commanding voice.
"Reporting to the chief! Just as what the person before stated, we have already laid low for over a month. However, our problem was still there. If we go out, we will be swarmed by the two factions and the zombies alike."
"We could not change the fact that we are now seen as both the enemy of mankind and zombies alike."
This had already been their fate since a month ago. Nothing could change it now.
"Sebastian. I'm afraid you might be mistaken in that point of view of yours. 'We' are no longer the human we once were. 'We' had already transcended and shed off 'Our' mortal body. It is normal for lower life forms to act jealous and be reverent infront of 'Us,' who already became a Level Three." The chief said in a dominant tone.
Sebastian's heart skipped a beat after hearing the chief's domineering words. There is a clear difference between a Level Two° and Level Three° human.
Not to mention, they are the hybrid of both humans and zombies.
"I am wrong! I apologize, Chief!" Sebastian apologized. His voice was reverent and fearful of the figure before him.
The chief nonchalantly waved its hand.
"This Beheader, what do you think of it?" The chief asked Sebastian, who is below the chief's seat.
"Answering the Chief. Based on the information that we have received, we know for sure that the Beheader isn't a Level Three° being. It is even more unlikely for the Beheader to be the Chief's opponent. So in my guess, the Beheader is a Level Two° human or zombie that had just come to the town. I also think that the Beheader is only a being who had just broken to the Peak Stage of Level Two°." Sebastian stated.
"A bold guess. Like what you said, the Beheader is unlikely a Level Three° and is also unlikely 'Our' previous opponent". With that said, "Sebastian, this is not worth 'Our' time. 'We' appointed you as the second in command. You are also in charge of this matter, Sebastian."
Sebastian knelt to the ground and nodded his head. He beat his chest strongly with his right arm, like a subject pledging allegiance to its King.
"Yes, Chief! I will not disappoint you."
