Book 6: Chapter 62:1: The Winners Feast, the Rich Gamble, Part 1

“Should we jump together or separately? And where should we jump?”

“Before you arrived, we other Servants had already agreed to jump to the nuclear power plant together. Although supplies are scarce, safety is ensured. If you want to join us, look for me. Queen of Sheba, make sure to click ‘Parachute follow.’”

“Alright, Jeanne d’Arc, be careful. This game is a bit different from the games in our world. They play using either virtual reality helmets or virtual reality gaming pods, which should make them more agile than using a computer or phone. The tactics can be dirtier, so be cautious. I’m going to loot and then stake out the bridge on the right.”

“Okay.”

This match followed a point-based system, with the rules as follows:

Point Calculation Logic: Ranking Points Elimination Points Total Points for the Match.

Elimination Points: Players earn 1 point per elimination in each match.

Ranking Points: Players receive ranking points based on their final survival rank in each match.

First place: 20 points.

Second place: 15 points.

Third place: 12 points.

Fourth place: 10 points.

Fifth place: 8 points.

Sixth place: 6 points.

Seventh place: 5 points.

Eighth place: 4 points.

From this game mechanism, it was evident that ranking points played a significant role. If Chen Heng could survive to second place by himself, he would earn 15 points, equivalent to eliminating 15 opponents.

Hence, he decided to play it safe and focus on survival. Of course, while he focused on survival, dealing with the bridge was critical.

Once the plane entered the drop zone, Chen Heng waited for a moment and then clicked to parachute. This time, the plane’s route went from the mountaintop ruins to the military base. From Chen Heng’s perspective on the plane, Jeanne d’Arc and the others’ choice to jump to the nuclear power plant should result in fewer competitors—only one enemy team at most. The nuclear power plant was a remote location, and the plane’s trajectory allowed them to drop in directly without needing ground vehicles.

The plan this time was to block the bridge, so Chen Heng flew to the lower left area of M City. He would scavenge for supplies there before taking a gamble at the school.

Then Chen Heng found himself unable to control his body. His body skillfully opened the hatch and leaped out.

After jumping, Chen Heng could feel the wind blowing on his face, but he couldn’t fully control his character’s movements, only the direction he was flying in, so he naturally chose to fly diagonally.

Leaving aside other details, parachuting here was not much different from playing a computer game. At most, there was the sensation of the wind blowing on his face, but it wasn’t very strong.

Chen Heng knew what it felt like to jump from several kilometers high. If he opened his mouth, his face would become distorted into a terrifying grotesque. He had tried jumping from three kilometers high without a parachute before, so he had a deep understanding of it. It was much more thrilling than a roller coaster.

Chen Heng’s target this time was the area below M City. When Chen Heng was at 300 meters altitude and had not yet opened his parachute, the parachute automatically deployed.

It seemed that the crossdressing pro earlier had told a heartless lie. Opening the parachute was mandatory in this game; it wouldn’t let you jump directly to the ground.

After touching down and rolling a couple of times, Chen Heng finally regained control of his body.

While parachuting, Chen Heng had adjusted his perspective to check for nearby people and found that he was the only one jumping here within a few hundred meters. However, there were indeed people landing in the direction of M City.

After landing, Chen Heng observed the surroundings and found only two or three cottages nearby, so he entered the largest one.

However, he didn’t use the door but jumped through the window. It wasn’t that he had too much free time with nothing to do; he just wanted to experience what it was like to jump through a window.

This game had two modes of play: one was completely open, where one had to interact physically with objects; and the other was AI-assisted, where one character would automatically perform actions when one thought about them.

Each had its advantages and disadvantages, but we won’t go into detail here.

After jumping through the window, the first thing Chen Heng saw was a fearsome sniper rifle, a must-have for stealthy players, the VSS, next to the window, along with some ammunition.

[TL Note: Here is more information on the VSS: https://pubg.fandom.com/wiki/VSS_Vintorez. It is likely based on a real gun model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS_Val_and_VSS_Vintorez.]

Why was this rifle called a must-have for stealthy players? Because it made no noise when firing, at least past a range of 100 meters. Beyond that range, VSS shots wouldn’t produce any gunshots or muzzle flashes.

Of course, it had its drawbacks, such as a slow rate of fire. There’s a saying: if one VSS bullet hits you, you’ll have 19 more pouring into you after a while.

Chen Heng, being the sneaky player he was, immediately picked up the rifle, along with 60 rounds of ammunition.

After Chen Heng searched a few houses on the outskirts, his gear had changed significantly. He now had a VSS, an M416, several rounds of ammunition, two frag grenades, a smoke grenade, level 1 armor, a level 1 helmet, a level 2 backpack, and an 8x scope.

[TL Note: Here is more information on the M416: https://pubg.fandom.com/wiki/M416. It is likely based on a real gun model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_26_Koch_HK416.]

After finishing the search, Chen Heng headed for the bridge to the right, which connected the large and small islands.

This truly was a game. Despite running for 300 meters, he didn’t feel tired at all. This kind of physical condition wasn’t something an ordinary person could have; he was indeed a special forces soldier.

Three minutes later, Chen Heng reached the bridge on the right side of the island map. Along the way, he encountered several restrooms and checked them for supplies but found nothing substantial, only a compensator and an extended magazine for the M416, which he mounted on his weapon.

[TL Note: A compensator is a gun attachment to help with recoil. Here’s more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_brake.]

Looking up at the massive bridge, Chen Heng considered his options. Instead of climbing onto the bridge, he decided to belly down in the nearby grass.

Chen Heng had consulted the map earlier. The location of this bridge was excellent. The central zone of the danger circle was near the research facility. The first circle excluded the military base entirely. If anyone wanted to cross over, there was a 50 percent chance they would choose this bridge.

Only a few minutes had passed, so the gunfight at the military base was likely still ongoing. Therefore, no one would be crossing this bridge for now. However, given the danger circle’s position, it was inevitable that aggressive players would come to block the bridge. Thus, Chen Heng didn’t position himself on the bridge.
