Chapter 134: The Return of Macedonia

Chapter 134: The Return of Macedonia

The potion made from forbidden materials had undeniable effects, even though it wasn't without its side effects. Even when diluted, how could an elderly man, teetering on the brink of death, withstand it? Paladin understood this very well. While taking Archbishop Sarrier several times wouldn't show immediate effects, when the accumulated toxins reached a certain point, it could make one's life worse than death. And ironically, the only way to alleviate this excruciating pain caused by Archbishop Sarrier was to take more medicine, creating a vicious cycle.

This was just Paladin's first step. In this world, everything was tradable, including Archbishop Sarrier. By adding appropriate other substances to the potion to alter its properties, Paladin could delay Sarrier's side effects for months or even years. However, once Paladin stopped adding these complementary substances, the body, accustomed to the drug, would immediately deteriorate. Yes, Paladin aimed to control this old lecher. It was true now, and it would be the same when he became an Archbishop after the war. He would use Sarrier as a valuable bargaining chip to get what he needed even more.

While Paladin was secretly planning his moves, he suddenly heard a series of intense footsteps coming from the left corridor. He tilted his head slightly, and with the light from the corridor and moonlight outside, he could vaguely see a person covered in blood, armor in tatters, stumbling and leaning against the wall. "Macedonia!" Paladin widened his eyes in disbelief. It was clear that Macedonia, heavily wounded as he was, had somehow made it back alive. But what about Aberleigh? How could the massive Aberleigh, whose abilities rivaled those of a Seven-Star Warrior, lose to Macedonia, or even die by his sword? However, Paladin noticed something crucial: Macedonia had no weapons on him. In that moment, an overwhelming sense of anger surged in Paladin.

Macedonia, too, saw Paladin standing at the entrance to Sarrier's room. Aside from a brief moment of surprise in his eyes, the rest was fury. "You..." For an instant, Paladin's eyes flared with anger, his body covered in blood. He quickly considered numerous options. However, in the blink of an eye, he had made up his mind and his face showed a mix of shock and concern. He rushed to Macedonia's side, carefully supporting him, and anxiously asked, "Macedonia, what happened to you? What's with your injuries?"

Slap! Unexpectedly, as Paladin finished speaking, Macedonia, with injuries all over his body, delivered a resounding slap to Paladin.

"In the morning, why did you leave?" Macedonia questioned like this, but despite the burning sensation on his cheek, Paladin showed no signs of anger. Instead, he wore a concerned expression, and nervously held onto Macedonia's shoulder, saying, "Now is not the time to discuss that. You should treat your wounds quickly; once they worsen, healing won't be so simple!"

With these words, Paladin immediately assisted Macedonia towards the stairs. However, Macedonia pushed Paladin's hand away once more, delivering another loud slap to him. Gritting his teeth and enduring the pain, he murmured, "I need to see the Archbishop; get out of my way." Paladin, unyielding, grabbed Macedonia's bloody hand and urged, "Don't disturb the Archbishop now. He's busy enjoying himself. You should attend to your injuries first!"

"What did you say!" Macedonia's eyes widened, and he turned to glare at Paladin, an expression of disdain and anger on his face. In the background, faintly audible were the cries of a girl from Sarrier's room. It meant that he had arrived a step too late, allowing this scoundrel to deliver the girl into Sarrier's room!

Wait a moment! He had been ambushed by a monster, and although he had luckily defeated it and gotten injured, this guy had somehow given the girl he had bought back to Sarrier? Suddenly, Macedonia sensed that this series of events was not merely coincidental but part of a premeditated plan. Filled with suspicion, he glared at Paladin and demanded, "Was that monster your doing? Is all of this your idea?"

"What are you talking about? I can't understand you at all. Were you attacked by a monster?" "Stop pretending! You cunning little man!" Furious, Macedonia shoved Paladin forcefully and pointed at him with trembling fingers. His eyes carried an intense anger that made it seem like he wanted to swallow this detestable guy alive. Vaguely, the sounds of a girl's cries could be heard from Sarrier's room. In other words, he had arrived a step too late, allowing this scoundrel to send the girl into Sarrier's room!

Macedonia wanted to say more, but before he could, Paladin shot a quick glance at the approaching guards in the corridor. His eyes immediately gleamed with a golden light. He swiftly covered Macedonia's mouth with one hand while using the other to maliciously tear open Macedonia's armor. He clamped onto Macedonia's injured rib and pulled without hesitation. "Wuwuwu!"

Unprecedented agony coursed through his entire body. Macedonia was pinned down by Paladin's powerful hand covering his mouth, too weak to resist. Tears welled in his eyes, and he let out wailing cries. In the next moment, the excruciating pain overwhelmed him, and he collapsed unconscious into Paladin's arms.

Holding the unconscious Macedonia, Paladin lifted him up. A sinister smile spread across his face. This was perfect; by eliminating this troublesome guy, his career path would undoubtedly become much smoother.
