As mentioned already, a dream was the manifestation of the subconscious mind to enact their deepest desires. It was also the last barrier of defense against the things we wished to hide and protect deep in our souls.
The more we were willing to hide the truth the higher the defenses would be.
For Hae-Won, the criminal career of her husband was both a source of shame and a sin that brought to her unimaginable levels of anguish…
It created a contradiction between her own personal values and the loyalty she instinctively felt for her dear husband.
Mixed with all that was the knowledge that if anything happened to her husband, neither she nor her child would be able to have the wonderful and normal life that she was hoping to live beside her husband.
All those emotions made it so that the question Adam asked was no different from pouring water in an anthill and watching the terrible result unfold before one's own eyes.
Adam could feel the very world that was surrounding them shaking and cracking as Hae-Won started to slowly reject him and his invasion into her Dream World. But the shaking stopped as swiftly as it came and left Hae-Won with an expression not a single bit different from earlier as she could still be seen blushing while holding she held his hand with her own.
Only this time, they were not in the ballroom anymore but in what looked like a huge church in a foreign country.
Hae-Won was now wearing a white dress and was looking at him with a beautiful and infinitely loving smile on her face and a natural warmth and affection brimming in her eyes.
'I am getting married in a dream for the third time it seems. I should get used to this feeling already.'
"Do you swear to have and to hold each other from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until parted by death?"
"I do."
Hae-Won was brimming with excitement as she immediately said yes to the vows that the priestess enunciated to her and asked her to give a reply to.
Adam remembered one of his discussions with Hae-Won. It seemed like she had not truly been able to have the marriage of her dream. Though the marriage had been lavish and worthy of a Disney Princess in terms of scale, he had adamantly refused to take a step into the church and deliver the standard vows to her no matter how she had begged him.
"What about you?"
"I do as well."
Tears gathered in the corner of her eyes for a little while and they were given the rings by a little boy Adam did not even recognize. But from the similarity the cute boy had with her mother and the oriental features, it was not hard to guess that the boy was, in fact, none other than Hae-Won's son.
'So even after erasing her husband from her dream, she still kept her son? She must love him quite a bit to do that…'
He nodded at the boy and took the rings from his hands before bringing them to her,
"I refuse to marry someone who is not honest with me. Tell me, what do you know?"
Hae-Won visibly struggled and her eyes twitched slightly at first before becoming rather creepy.
The world once again cracked and the scene broke away into thousands of pieces, leaving Adam a bit muddle-headed, forcing him to close his eyes. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself once again in what looked like a church but the atmosphere was much, much darker than before.
The image was blurred, everything was blurred to the point that it was hard to make out which is which.
'Oh? Did I stumble onto something juicy at long last?'
This time Hae-Won was not near him but rather with another man. At first, Adam was simply curious about it all; wondering in his mind if those were the memory of her marriage with the man that he knew to be the boss of the Blue Sharks. Though when he saw her walking in a rather obscene red dress, he couldn't help but tilt his head in wonder.
The scene of an almost normal marriage seemed to proceed but everything seemed much more eerie than anything that could be labeled as 'normal.'
'Is it a dream again? Her imagination, or is it a true memory? A repressed one perhaps?'
He approached closer but the images became more and more blurry until finally cracks began to appear once again and things seemed to break down from within.
After that phenomenon, a series of pictures each more disturbing than the other followed. Sometimes there would even be pictures of their intimate scenes but every time, the atmosphere would be darker and seemingly filled with more and more blood.
'What is going on here?'
If those were just dreams, one could say that Hae-Won was hiding deep fear and resentment against her husband. The distortion of the dream could be coming from a deep feeling of regret she was harboring in her subconsciousness.
But, from what he had gathered, Hae-Won did not hate nor fear her husband. At least not in such a deep and visceral way that was being shown to him in those images. In fact, if it wasn't because he had been somewhat ignoring her lately, she would have most likely not fallen into his clutches.
ƥαṇdα- ηθνε|·ƈθm 'Something is fishy. Did he mess with her memories?'
That didn't seem like it was impossible per se. Hae-Won was just a normal woman and her husband was clearly part of the supernatural world. It wouldn't be hard for the situation to end in some kind of abuse.
After all, he was doing much the same to Hae-Won right now and he had no moral ground to stand on to judge and question her husband for his methods.
'You poor woman…'
Sighing a little, Adam decided to focus more on finding the information he wanted rather than gathering more and more sympathy for the beautiful MILF in his heart.
He moved his hand and broke away the last series of images before rushing deeper into her subconscious.
He had finally managed to take full control of her Dream World and could now somewhat change it as he wished.
The images changed and a new series of memories flashed one after another. Those were the memories he wished to see.
The information Hae-Won chanced upon but never went deeper in to save herself from breaking down. Things like his bank accounts.
She might have only given one look, but that information was forever locked in her brain and he now had full access to them.
'I am going to be rich!'
He chuckled but now was not the time to focus on just money. He needed much more than just his bank accounts. He needed to find evidence to collapse his empire.
'The ideal would be to attack him directly and knock him down but we don't know what kind of backing he has.'
If before he had just dismissed the man as some small fry, after seeing the repressed and hidden memories in Hae-Won's mind, he decided to be a little more careful about the insufferable man.
"Let's see what else I can find.'
He was going the look at everything the woman had to offer about her husband.
This was necessary in order to prepare as thoroughly as possible and he was surprised to find that she knew much more than he had anticipated.
It seemed like her husband was considering Hae-Won as nothing more than a stupid woman as he would let sensitive documents all around without a care in the world.
Hae-Won meanwhile played her role with grace. Sometimes asking simple question to him, which allowed him to fed his ego and feel better.
Like this, Hae-Won had enough information at hand to completely topple his empire if she do wished.
Clearly she was not as naive as he thought. She had already made preparation to prepare and protect herself in case he suddenly decided he wanted to become a widow.
Adam respect for Hae-Won increased deeply and he was going to use those information carefully.
(AN: What Adam doing now is no different from mind rape. I honestly felt a little weird. As most of my mc until now were more hero or kinda anti-hero. Adam still has a limit he won't cross. But those limits are much looser than those of someone like Sol for example. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing. But I did promise a somewhat evil mc.)
