Chapter 280 Battle Maniac
Lei Zhen was the type to keep things in suspense, mainly to irritate the opposite party because the more they want to know, the more attention they would give to you.
And it wasn't that Lei Zhen wanted Tang Qiaolian's attention, but because there wasn't much time to explain to her.
After all, they had finally arrived at the dock close to Cinderton, and a few military people were in shambles as they recognized the Caprice's ship.
"What the hell? They are back already? Do we tell Commander Jack Scarecrow about them?" One of the military personnel was in total chaos when he recognized the familiar ship that caused them to be punished harshly.
"Shush, Commander Jack Scarecrow already had a heartache when he was forced to give out so much luxury to them. If he knew they were back again, then the two of us would be dead instead." Another military personnel warned and shook his head.
Compared to his colleague that was clearly in shambles, he was more clear-headed to oversee the situation first before making a move.
Sometime later, he walked forward and greeted Lei Zhen in the most polite way ever.
"Hello, Sir Chancellor of Yors Castle. What can we assist you with?"
"Relax yourself, soldier. I'm not here to get some more benefits in this short amount of time. I just needed to go to the wasteland field for some matters." Lei Zhen raised his hand and said.
The soldier might be calm and polite, but Lei Zhen could tell he was on the verge of stabbing him if he was truly back to get more gifts.
And naturally, the soldier visibly breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Lei Zhen wasn't back for more troubles. Otherwise, he might truly lose his mind like his colleague.
"I see, then please enjoy your stay. I shall return back to my post." The soldier then said, promptly letting Lei Zhen roam wherever he pleased.
As for the possibility of Lei Zhen creating another massive trouble, that wasn't in his mind since only a retard would provoke them despite their great hospitality previously.
"That soldier doesn't seem to welcome your appearance," Once the soldier left to return to his post, Griselda walked toward him and whispered.
Lei Zhen shrugged his shoulders.
"Not my fault that I'm more handsome than him," He said in a solemn tone.
Meanwhile, Griselda rolled her eyes at how shameless he was.
"Let's not waste any time and just head toward the location," She then said, pointing out that the others were waiting in the back.
Lei Zhen nodded his head and began to have Candice guide the way again.
During their journey though, Tang Qiaolian and Griselda remained vigilant, clearly ready for an attack from anywhere.
And for the first time, Lei Zhen ordered Howard to follow along as well.
With Howard's skills and experience in a fight, if anyone does come to look for troubles with them, then at least he could be reassured by Howard's appearance.
"Howard, remember the order. If anyone attempts to attack us or if you sense any hostility from people toward us, notify me immediately." Lei Zhen reminded Howard again.
Although Howard didn't understand why Lei Zhen was suddenly overly cautious, he still nodded his head and flashed a solemn expression.
"Understood, Chancellor. I'll make sure not a single hostility escapes from my vision." Howard said adamantly.
"Good, I trust in your ability."
Sometime later, the group entered the wasteland field with Candice leading the way. Occasionally, the group will encounter some monsters but was swiftly dealt with by Tang Qiaolian, Liu Lingxin, Griselda, Hilda, Melissa, and even the bloodthirsty Candice.
In other words, all the females were the ones doing the fighting whereas Lei Zhen and Howard were sidelined completely.
"Chancellor, sorry to be rude, but are you sure I'm needed here at all?" Howard turned to Lei Zhen and asked with a confused expression.
It was clear that he was astonished by the fierceness of the women. They were all so fierce and cooperated with each other extremely well, almost as if they had trained for this moment their entire life.
And with that in mind, Howard was doubtful if he could even subdue them if they were to all launch an attack together at him.
Meanwhile, Lei Zhen shrugged his shoulders, seemingly saying that he had no idea of their fearsome prowess either.
How was he supposed to remember that all of them were Tier 2 players while he was still a Tier 1 player?
"Don't feel too bad, Howard. Their firepower is strong, but maybe their strategy and experience wasn't as good as you-"
Before Lei Zhen could continue his words, the women suddenly made a loud impact and revealed multiple monsters that were hiding beneath the sand.
Afterward, they all cooperated flawlessly, killing all the monsters without a sweat.
"Um, you were saying, Chancellor?" Howard asked, his mouth twitching slightly.
"Don't you even!" Lei Zhen hissed coldly, warning him to not ask any further. He was just humiliated thoroughly when he mentioned the women didn't have much of a strategy, only to be proven wrong severely the next second.
Howard nodded his head and attempted to suppress his laughter.
Seeing Lei Zhen being incorrect was a rare occurrence since he was always a perfectionist, even back when he was the Chancellor, managing multiple political influencers with decisiveness and preciseness.
Time slowly passed by, and with much bloodshed left behind in their trail, the group finally arrived at the secret entrance of Smither Gary.
However, to his dismay, the secret entrance seemed to be shut extremely tight this time, almost as if someone had purposely modified it to have it permanently closed.
"Are you sure this is the correct place, Lei Zhen?" Griselda turned to question Lei Zhen instead of the person guiding the way.
It doesn't take a genius to know that she was already biased for Candice, and turning against him right away.
"This is indeed the place that we came to last time. It's just that the entrance method seemed to have been modified." Lei Zhen explained, glancing at Candice since she might have a clue as to how to open the entrance.
After all, Smither Gary had a connection with her species, so he might have done something that only she was capable of doing.
And sure enough, Candice seemed to recognize some of the symbols related to their elves' species.
"These symbols look similar to the ancient language of the elf." Candice tilted her head slightly, trying to get a closer look at the symbol.
Since the symbol was almost always covered in sand, it was quite difficult to see the symbol clearly. Even when she knelt down and shifted some of the sand away, the symbol was still unclear.
While Candice busied herself with trying to figure out the symbol, Lei Zhen and the rest remained vigilant, guarding the area and preventing any possibility of being ambushed.
They are in an open area, and people could have camouflage techniques, so even if the surface seemed empty, enemies could be lurking right around the edges.
A few minutes later, Howard's ear twitched slightly as he retrieved his sword, ready to swing it at any moment.
"Chancellor, I sensed some hostility directed at us. It's a bit faint, but there was some leakage." Howard warned Lei Zhen about his discovery.
With Howard's warning, everyone else became alerted and entered battle mode. They knew Howard was an NPC and a subordinate of Lei Zhen, so his words held quite a weight.
"My map isn't showing anyone nearby, so the enemies have some concealment tools equipped on their bodies." Lei Zhen checked his map and said calmly.
"A common strategy to ambush unsuspecting players." Griselda sneered coldly.
"Unfortunately, they messed with the wrong people this time." Tang Qiaolian added, snapping her finger and unleashing a wide-range field spell that she had long prepared for.
Instantly, a large magical barrier covered their surroundings, and unsurprisingly, four players that were camouflaged were instantly revealed, almost as if a person was exposed naked in public.
"Are they the people that ambushed you previously, Lingxin?" Tang Qiaolian turned to her and asked, her tone extremely cold. After all, ambushing her bestie was akin to courting death and pressing her bottom line.
Liu Lingxin shook her head in response.
"I remember one of them vividly, and he's not part of this group. Though some of their clothing does resemble the people that ambushed me previously." She responded.
"Good enough for me!" Candice suddenly intervened and unleashed her magic spell.
"Leave some for me as well, Candice." Griselda chuckled softly and followed up on Candice's spell.
"We're not background characters either. Allow us to join in the fun as well." Hilda and Melissa both exclaimed simultaneously and assisted them.
"Can I join as well?" Howard asked awkwardly, his sword clearly itching for a fight, but it would be rude for him to interrupt them without permission.
"That hideous person in the back is all yours." Liu Lingxin smiled and gave him a thumbs up.
Soon, a large battle erupted and Howard was exhilarated to finally be able to fight, showing his fighting prowess.
"Everyone's a battle maniac in my team," Lei Zhen muttered softly, shaking his head as he decided to walk closer to Candice and protect her instead.
As for the fighting, he had no interest in joining them when he barely had any attacking spells available in his kit.
'Once they finished fighting, that'll be when I extract all the information from them.' He thought to himself.
