Chapter 1207 An Impromptu Meeting (2)
"I apologize for taking longer than usual to arrive." Although the man outwardly showed confidence as he made his way to where the two were, that immediately turned into slight guilt once he began to look at Braum with an apologetic smile.
"It's fine," replied Braum with a slight nod, understanding the plight of the man before them. "After all, even I took a while to get here the first time."
"I'll have to do more research on routes to faraway places like these later on." Nodding in agreement to his words, the man soon shifted his gaze towards the young man beside Braum, his eyes lighting up the moment he noticed the latter's silver irises.
"You would be Valyr, I presume?" asked the man, his tone containing slight excitement.
"That would be me." Valyr nodded in response, slightly surprised that the man leading the Zeihardt clan's supportive faction was more amiable than he initially thought.
Earlier when Braum arrived at his shop for the meeting in advance, the man decided to give Valyr a slight briefing of the supportive faction's leader in detail, giving the young man a heads-up of sorts as to what man he'd be talking to later on.
From what Braum told him, Valyr imagined the leader of the supportive faction to be a calm and collected personality, forgoing the need for emotion in order to make sure all of his moves were done so with the greatest benefit in mind.
With that, the two briefly discussed whether or not the young man should use one of his alternate identities. After all, doing the meeting in his original appearance was basically giving the Zeihardt clan his current whereabouts.
Then again, even though Braum listed down a number of similar reasons to persuade him to make use of a different appearance, Valyr remained adamant in using his original appearance, telling the man that it was inevitable for him to show his true face sooner or later.
"Plus, doing so would bring me one step closer to completing the plan I have," said Valyr, reminding Braum of the conversation they had the last time he arrived at the village.
Fortunately, that was more than enough to convince Braum not to try and persuade the young man any further, which allowed the current situation to happen.
'The supportive faction's leader forgoes the need for emotion… but it really doesn't seem like it?' Continuing to look at the man in front of him in silence, Valyr briefly thought back to the conversation he had with Braum earlier.
Feeling a hint of doubt begin to creep up in his mind, the young man began to inwardly shake his head, deciding to trust a bit more in the information Braum gave him.
'He wouldn't have told me that for no reason, after all.'
"I'm greatly thankful that you accepted the meeting I requested," said Valyr to the man after some time, gradually shifting the flow of the conversation to where he was the one in control. "Hopefully I didn't encumber you?"
"Not at all." The man shook his head with an amicable smile. "After all, who would pass up on an opportunity to talk with a Herald of the clan?"
"Though…" Just as Valyr got the feeling that there was something slightly off about the man's words, the latter gave him a respectful half-bow before continuing to speak. "Before we proceed with our reasons for meeting up, let me first introduce myself."
"As you've left the clan many years ago, I more than understand that someone like me wouldn't be familiar to you."
"Sullivan Artis Zeihardt," the man told Valyr. "I hail from the same branch of the Zeihardt Royal Clan as you do, though I have a feeling you called me here more for my position as the leader of the clan's supportive faction."
Taking in a slightly deep breath as he processed the words the man told him, the young man soon nodded in response as a sign for him to continue.
"Aside from that, I also occupy the position of chief adviser to the head of Algerie Kingdom's Zeihardt Royal Clan…" said Sullivan, only to let out a wry chuckle as the young man began to look at him with slight disinterest. "But you don't really seem to care about that."
"Since that's the case… let us proceed with the main reason why we've decided to meet up, then."
"Thank you." Inwardly letting out a sigh of relief after hearing the man's words, Valyr took a bit of time to collect himself before taking the initiative to start the conversation. "You wouldn't mind if I were the one asking questions first, no?"
"Not at all." Sullivan shook his head. "Feel free to ask all the questions you need, and I shall answer to the best of my abilities."
"Alright." Nodding in response to his words, Valyr pondered over the first question he should ask, only to recall a certain quest he had in mind. "For my first question…"
"Where could you usually be found?"
"Pardon?" Unsurprisingly, Sullivan looked a bit confused after hearing the question. "Am I wrong in hearing that you're asking me for my usual whereabouts?"
"That would be the question I'm asking, yes." Valyr nodded, only to notice greater confusion on the man's face in response.
Fortunately, the young man soon realized how weird it was for a question like that to be the first question he asked.
So, he clarified himself. "I'm asking this in the off chance I decide on planning a meeting with you in the future. After all, it would be somewhat rude if you were the one who always had to adjust to my whereabouts."
"I… see," replied Sullivan after a bit of silence, faintly nodding as Valyr's words gradually began to make sense to him. "Well, I don't usually go outside the clan that much… the answer you'd be looking for would be the Zeihardt Royal Clan estate, I guess?"
Ding!
Hearing a couple of notifications go off in his mind after the man replied to his question, Valyr felt a bit of smile creep up onto his lips.
Stifling this smile before it could appear, the young man decided to ask a similar question to the one he just threw out, thinking that now was the best opportunity to finish the one quest he'd gotten almost a year ago.
"Now for my second question," said Valyr, thanking the man for his earlier response. "Would you happen to know the usual whereabouts of the leader of the rebel faction?"
As those words left his mouth, the young man thought about how he'd be able to smoothly proceed to the actual conversation he wanted to have with Sullivan after the latter answered his current question.
Though, unlike the slight uncertainty Sullivan showed him in his first question, the man now began to look at him with suspicion.
"Although I don't mind answering your question…"
"Could you perhaps enlighten me as to why you would need such information?"
