Chapter 84.1

Chapter 84.1. Welcome Party!

This world is a novel’s world.

What I’m trying to say is this. A mansion with such a vast site in the city center! Isn’t there a pattern where the protagonist is surprised when they visit their wealthy friend’s house? In reality, it would be impossible to have such a vast plot of land in the heart of the city, the reader would think to himself.

In this world, there are mansions like the ones often seen in novels. In my previous life, no matter how rich you were, you couldn’t have a mansion with a forest in the city center, but in this world, high-ranking nobles do. That’s because high-ranking nobles receive preferential treatment for land when they live in the emperor’s lap.

Takano County follows this pattern. Because they’re high-ranking nobles, they have a large mansion with a forest and a large garden on a vast plot of land. I don’t envy too large mansions because they don’t feel like a home.

There are towering trees reaching high into the sky, and the garden spreads out behind them. And the mansion should be standing in the center of it. I don’t know, though, because smoke is rising as if there was a big fire, and I can’t see through it at all.

After leisurely looking out, we were supposed to arrive at the Takano house soon. It seems Takano County is the only one that has such a vast property in this area.

However, the house that came into view on the ground in the distance looked strange. Even if it was a surprise party, it was too big.

My parents could see the smoke, too, and their expressions were serious. All my family members couldn’t use magic to enhance their eyesight, but they could sense the disquieting atmosphere.

“Yoshiyuki-san! We will land immediately. Something seems to have happened at the mansion!”

“Understood. I’ll land immediately. Then I’ll ask Kongo and the others to confirm what happened.”

At the driver’s impatient voice, my dad nodded and gave instructions. Dad is cool, not cringing!

“Dear, shall I call the Warriors?”

My mom grabs her phone and prepares to contact them. Mom is cool to try to contact the Warriors, not the police!

This world has Imperial Army. They’re warrior corps that fights monsters and criminal magicians. There are the police that deals with general cases.

The organizational structure like this is because the military cannot be moved by the occasional monster that appears in a city and causes small-scale damage, or by individual magicians who misuse magic. No, they don’t want to move. If the military moves, that would be more important.

If that is the case, the police will take on the job, but most police are commoners. They’re not fighting for their lives. In my previous life, it would be like all the police becoming SWAT. In that case, what do you do about ordinary cases? The police weren’t primarily established to respond to murders. It exists to protect public safety.

That is why the Warriors exist. In the original story, there’s Susano’o unit specializes in exterminating monsters more than other groups.

In the original story, the Warriors were just a bunch of guys who were on the edge of their seats, and they didn’t have much of a shadow cast over them. It’s more like an organization that exists in a beaten-down role. The original author had made the organization like a foolish police force at the mercy of a phantom thief.

However, this was only a scene in the original story, and behind the scene, there must have been a powerful group of warriors. My mom immediately begins to operate her smartphone to contact the Warriors, whom everyone feels reassured by as a reliable presence.

Mii-chan looks at her parents with respect. I stare at her parents who don’t show upset with glittering sweets. Oh, my mom dropped her phone. She looks upset. Parents who can act while upset are cool!

My mom immediately tries to contact the Bushidan using the emergency contact, but she looks confused and starts looking at her phone again, which she holds to her ear.

“Something’s wrong. It’s out of range.”

My dad peeks at my mom’s phone from the side to confirm it’s out of range. He frowned and hurriedly took out his phone too, but it was still out of range. This was in the heart of the city.

“I don’t believe this phenomenon is the magic of …… Noise! Even though it is forbidden to use that thing!”

Seeing this, my dad of the former Ministry of Magic immediately understood what was happening and exclaimed, turning pale. What is Noise?

“Papa, what’s Noise?”

Raise my small hand and say Excuse me. Mii-chan is a curious girl.

“It’s intermediate-level wind magic. Its magic creates Noise in space and interferes with all communication devices and magic thought communication. If the frequency gets altered even slightly, communication devices can’t contact each other. It’s magic that takes advantage of that vulnerability.”

“I’m going to lose contact with my friends!”

.

“That’s right, Mii-chan. It would take advanced magic to block it, but this is relatively easy. But the law forbids the use of this magic without permission. If you get caught using it, it’s a dangerous magic that can result in imprisonment for 5 years or more without probation or a fine of 100 million yen or more.”

Even though I was in a hurry, I nodded anyway with a serious expression to my dad who was politely telling me. Seriously, there was such magic?

No wonder the protagonist couldn’t contact the army in the original story when they were fighting Nidhogg No, they might have explained it somewhere. I thought it was just in the novel, and assumed it was opportunistic. I don’t remember the details.

I’m surprised that such magic exists, anyway. Welcome to the world of visible combat only. How about naming it Tsugouii Particles? Monsters don’t use that kind of magic, so it’s anti-human magic.
