'Oh, what was his match rating then?' The goalkeeper asked subconsciously.
<8.5>
'Oh, just a little less than mine, I don't think giving him the award was a bad decision then.'
The players stayed in the locker room for a while until Norman got there to tell them what he wanted to tell them.
"It was a tough match but we managed to grab the win and that's all that matters," Norman said as he paced about the room. "However, that doesn't mean that we won't address our current problem which is finishing, all the forwards and midfielders will be put under intensive shooting training and the shooting coach will be in charge, I thought I had already taken care of this last season but it looks like you guys still need some work."
After telling them that and many other things, it was now time for the players to start heading back, but before that, Dave had to meet up with someone who was already waiting for him outside.
Clark lived here at Frono so it would be rude to leave without saying hi to him but the goalkeeper wasn't able to stop him anywhere since he got here.
The goalkeeper had to give him a call, and that was when he discovered that he did come to watch the match, he was just hidden among the crowd.
The players were already with all their stuff as they made their way outside where the bus was waiting to take them back to the airport where their private plane was waiting to take them back home.
Clark was waiting just outside for the goalkeeper and as soon as the two spotted each other, they quickly walked closer for a fist bump and shoulder bump.
"Congratulations on your first victory of the season," Clark said.
"Thank you." The goalkeeper replied.
The two exchanged a few words before Dave had to make his way to the bus which was about to move out.
"I have to go now." He said as he slowly made his way to the bus. "I'll call you later."
"Okay," Clark said before he turned and began to walk away.
The drive from there to the airport wasn't that long so it didn't take long before they got there.
The players got down from the bus and made their way into the plane which didn't take long before taking off into the sky.
Mateo seemed to be in a very good mood, he was shaking his head at the music he was listening to through his earphones.
"Hey, Dave." The winger said after pulling out the headphones from his ears.
"Huh?" Dave said before turning his gaze to him.
"How about we got tomorrow and go have some fun around the city, we're free tomorrow and our next match is against Black Roz FC on Sunday?" The winger suggested.
"I don't know, that sounds nice if we keep it simple but I don't know." The goalkeeper said before placing his right hand on the back of his head.
"What's wrong?" Mateo asked.
"Nothing, just forget about it." The goalkeeper said before shaking his head.
"Okay." The winger said with an awkward expression on his face. "So, you're going to come then."
"Yeah," Dave replied with a nod.
"Cool, I'll ask the others if they're interested too," Mateo said.
After about forty-eight minutes in the air, the plane finally got to Unique City.
The players were taken to the stadium by their team bus, some players had to head inside and pick up something that they forgot there but Dave quickly made his way to his car and zoomed off toward his home.
After parking his car in its normal spot, he got down from it and checked the time to see that it was 7:15 PM.
"She must be home by now." He said before he began to make his way to the door.
After getting to the door, he slowly pulled out his keys from his pocket and inserted the key to the house into the keyhole.
He opened the door and entered the house to see that the light in the living room was dimmed but on turning to the side, he could see that the television was on and two people were sitting on the couch watching something on it.
They didn't even bother to look in his direction even after he shut the door loudly so he had to head over to them.
On getting closer to the area, he could see that it was his wife and mother-in-law just like he expected.
"Mrs. Smith, you're still here?" The goalkeeper said. He was quite surprised to see her there because she told him that she was leaving today.
"Hey, welcome, um...Emma here told me to stay a few more days and help her out with things and I don't see any reason not to." She said before placing her hand on the head of her daughter who had already fallen asleep on her thighs.
"What about your husband?" The goalkeeper asked.
"Don't worry, my husband can take care of himself, he won't mind," Martha said.
Emma seemed to have heard Dave's voice in her sleep as she slowly opened her eyes and blinked them a couple of times to make sure that she wasn't seeing things like earlier before Dave got back.
"Oh, you're back." She said with a frail voice before sitting up on the couch. "Welcome. How did the match go?"
"You don't know?" Dave said with a surprised look on his face.
As a reporter, he knew that she would make sure to check all the score lines and watch the highlights of the match she couldn't watch to make sure she was reporting everything correctly, but that didn't seem to be the case today or maybe it was because that wasn't part of her job today.
"Can't you see I was watching something interesting with my mother?" She said as her voice suddenly changed from frail to slightly grumpy.
"No, you were sleeping when I got here." The goalkeeper replied.
"No, I was just resting my head and eyes." She said,
"Like you were doing the day you almost got to work late," Dave said.
"Hey, don't bring that up now."
"While you two fight, I think I'll go get the table ready for dinner, you should go upstairs and freshen up Dave," Martha said before making her way out of the area.
"Looks like you came back to annoy me," Emma said before crossing her arms.
"Well, is it working?"
"You haven't told me how the match went!" She yelled, causing Dave to flinch back a little.
"Oh, that." He said before he began to scratch the back of his head with a nervous smile on his face.
"You guys didn't lose did you?"
"No, we beat them one goal to nothing." He said.
"Seriously? You guys won?"
"Yeah, you can confirm that with your phone." The goalkeeper said.
"Who scored the goal?"
"Your little brother, you should definitely watch the highlights." The goalkeeper said.
"Was it that good?" Emma said before picking up her phone.
"Yeah, while you're doing that, I'll go upstairs and freshen up, but you'll have to take care of this." He said before throwing his backpack in her face.
By the time she removed the backpack, he was already gone and all she could do was grumble.
