My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 330 We Are Going For The Win

The day for the match was finally here but the match wasn't going to kick off until 6:00 PM so there was a lot of time left before the kick-off.

Because the match was scheduled so late, FC Basel's squad decided to make their journey to Bilbeth in the morning of the match day instead of yesterday.

Saturdays seem to have become normal days for Emma to work at home.

She was busy working on her laptop in the dining area while Dave lay on the couch like a lazy cat.

He had been trying to spark up a conversation with his wife but every single time she told him to go away so he had to give up and take a little nap on the couch before the match.

The tranquility in the room lasted for only a couple of minutes as someone suddenly knocked on the door.

"Hey, babe, do you mind getting that?" She asked before turning her gaze to the couch, but there was no response from Dave.

"Babe." She called again but there was still no response from him.

"Trying to get back at me, I see." She mumbled before she got up from her seat and made her way to the door which she opened to see Amber standing there.

"Hi, Mrs. Emma."

"Amber, come inside." She said before she let go of the door and began to make her way back to her seat.

Amber entered the house and closed the door before making her way to the dining area to sit opposite Emma.

She pulled out her laptop and dropped it on the table, but just as she was about to start doing anything on it, someone knocked on the door thrice.

"Who could that be now?" Emma grumbled before turning her gaze to the door.

"Your husband, maybe," Amber said.

"No, he's over there pretending to be asleep." He said before pointing to the couch.

"Oh," Amber said after turning her gaze to the area. "Are you sure, he's not really asleep, ma'am?"

The knock came again forcing Amber to quickly get up from her seat.

"I'll go get it." She said before quickly making her way to the door.

She opened the door expecting to see someone she didn't know only to see Mateo standing there.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here." The winger said.

"Oh, hey." She stuttered.

"You haven't been picking up my calls," Mateo said. "Is it because of what happened last time?"

"I don't really want to talk about that now, if you want to see Dave, he's over there on the couch." She said before she left the door open for him and made her way back to her seat.

It really took a lot of effort for her to keep a straight expression on her face back there.

"Who's that, and why did you leave the door open?" Emma asked as soon as she sat down on her.

"Um…it's your brother, I'm sure he'll be coming in anytime soon now." She said,

"Oh, I see."

Mateo stood at the entrance for a while before he slowly entered the house and closed the door.

"Hey, sis." He said after seeing his sister.

"Mateo, if you're looking for your cunning teammate, he's lying there pretending to be asleep just to get back at me." She said before pointing at the couch.

"Since you were the one who did something to him first, it's only right if he gets back at you." The winger said.

"I knew you were going to side with him, just go see your fellow cunning man." She pouted before turning her gaze back to what she was doing.

"Okay." He said before getting closer to the couch to see that Dave pretending to be asleep was something she just made up. "You said he was pretending to be asleep but he seems to be asleep for real."

"Oh, maybe he fell asleep while pretending to be asleep." She said.

"Seriously?"

Mateo just stood there for a while without knowing what to do since he came to talk to Dave who happened to be asleep.

He could have just woken him up, but he didn't like disturbing people while they were asleep.

He stood there for a while until Emma decided to go upstairs and do something.

"I'll be back soon."

"Okay, ma'am."

Mateo followed her with his eyes as she made her way upstairs, and as soon as she was out of sight, he slowly began to make his way to the dining area.

As soon as he got there, he pulled out the seat beside Amber and sat down there.

She acted as if she didn't see him and continued doing what she was doing.

"I'm sorry about how things ended last time." He said but there was no response from her. "I guess you probably hate me now but…"

"No, I don't hate you." She said before quickly turning her gaze to him. "It wouldn't be fair to hate you just because you don't have feelings for me and I have feelings for you."

Just as she said that, he clenched his right hand into a fist.

"If that's true, then why have you been avoiding me since that day? You don't even pick up my calls anymore."

After hearing him say that, she slowly put her head down.

"Um…. it's a bit complicated." She muttered.

"Complicated, I see, how about this, after we beat FC Basel today, what do you say we go grab a late dinner together and talk things through?" He asked.

"Late night dinner?"

"Yeah."

"I don't know, I'll be working late at night after the match." She said.

"Okay, how about lunch or dinner tomorrow?"

"Lunch will be okay." She said,

"Okay." He said.

"So, is this like um… a date?" She asked.

"Yeah, I guess you can put it that way."

"Oh, okay." She said, "So, who is she?"

"Huh?" Mateo said with a confused expression on his face.

"You said you don't like me in that way which means there has to be someone else, right?"

"Yeah, you're right, there is someone else but to be honest…."

"Huh?"

"When I said I didn't have feelings for you, it wasn't exactly the truth."

As soon as he said that, her eyes suddenly brightened up.

"What?"

There was only an hour left before the match could kick off, and right now, the players from both teams were all on the pitch warming up for the match.

"Here goes!" Mateo yelled before he quickly closed up on the ball and sent it flying toward the with a stupendous.

Dave was only able to get the tip of his gloves on the ball as it hit the crossbar before falling into the goalpost.

"Nice hit, Mateo," Ferran said as he softly clapped his hands.

"I see you've gotten that confident and positive demeanor of yours back," Dave said as he made his way to him.

"What are you talking about? I never lost it." The winger said.

"Yeah, but you were acting sort of different during our last training session," Merino said. "But since you're back to your old self now, let's go for the win."

"Yeah, we are going for the win," Dave said before waving back at Filip who was waving at him from the other side.
