Milo and Zach were walking through the smithing hall listening to the clanking of machines, the huffing of the bellows, and the hammering of metal. The smithing hall was noticeably hotter than anywhere else on campus due to the fires used for making the metal formable. Milo could deal with the heat just fine, but Zach seemed to begin sweating soon after entering, due to the disaster ability Milo had a certain level of tolerance for both extreme heat and cold, otherwise his own ability would hurt him.
Milo guided Zach around the smithing hall until he finally heard a familiar voice. He walked into the room to see Avery berating some of the other smithing students working in the same room. Something about them ruining the metal she was using due to them using the bellows too much. Milo didn't really understand blacksmithing so he didn't know what it meant, but it obviously made her angry for some reason.
After shooing them out of the room she turned to see Milo and Zach entering. She pulled off her mask that she wore when working and smiled when seeing Milo enter. Milo was used to the appearance of Avery at this point even with how it made no sense that a short girl could do such grueling work, but Zach seemed flabbergasted when she took the mask off. It made sense after seeing her boss around and scare off two big burly dudes who were also smiths.
lightsΝοvel "There's my little gold mine, what'd you need?" she said to Milo.
Zach didn't know about the deal Milo had with Avery so he looked visibly confused. Milo explained Zach's idea about a sort of lightning rod to redirect the electricity his beast shot off. Avery scratched her chin in thought for a little bit before asking to see what instrument Zach was currently using. Zach pulled out the half melted spear thing and showed it to her. She took it and looked at it closely before coming to a resolution.
"I see what's going on here, the lightning appears to be superheating the metal causing it to melt once it gets to a high enough temperature, you need to use a magical alloy for it to work the way you want it to and last multiple lightning attacks. Normal metal when placed under the stress of magic power crumbles quite easily," she said, "If you want I can make one that works similar, it'll be a slightly different shape and will be made of a magical alloy so that it lasts as long as you want it to." Milo wasn't sure if anything she was saying was true, but she had been helpful to him with all his smithing needs so far and figured her opinion would be the best one for them to follow. He agreed to having her make one for Zach which caused Zach to freak out a bit as he couldn't afford it.
Milo then said there was one other thing he needed her help with before pulling all his damaged equipment out of his dimensional storage earring. All his equipment was trashed, it practically looked like scrap metal from all the damage it had received while he was fighting for his life in New York. Seeing all the damaged equipment Avery put her hands to her head and had a mini meltdown.
"What have you done to my masterpieces? How did they get this damaged?!" she exclaimed. Milo informed her of the attack from the Fellowship he fought through and also all the gates he had closed working his internship. He then explained how without them he would've stood no chance. Avery pinched the bridge of her nose feeling somewhat frustrated but understood how serious Milo could've been hurt, even killed. She said that it'd take her at least a week to fix everything up and then she'd also make the spear Zach needed, Milo said thanks and transferred her the credits she said she'd need in order to purchase the materials for the repair and for the spear. Milo assured Zach that he had more money than he needed from the internship and to consider it as thanks for walking him to the nurse's office to get patched up. Zach contested this but after some arguing he eventually conceded after much convincing from Milo.
Avery asked Milo if there was anything new he needed made, and he said that he could use some better leggings. He made up a story that they were a gift from one of his guild members during his internship, but in reality he had purchased them from the system shop. She took a closer look at them and was actually amazed by the craftsmanship. She asked Milo if he knew who had made them or what smithing firm they were a part of but he told her no. She scanned them over but could find no signature like most smiths or firms did to identify their work.
She asked Milo if he had any preferences, but he told her to go crazy. He told her his only request was to make sure they fit in with the rest of his gear. She nodded and said she'd do that. Milo then asked her to not worry about the cost and he'd pay her when it's finished. She nodded then said that the longer they take to leave then the longer it'll take for her to get started on the work. She then hurried them out the door and shut it behind her, leaving a do not disturb sign on it so she wasn't bothered.
Milo and Zach were a bit stunned by how eager she was to get to work and within a few minutes, they could hear some clamoring from within the room. Milo giggled a little bit as the two began making their way to the exit. After going to get their stuff fixed, Milo returned to his dorm and caught up on some work he had missed due to meeting with the Big 4.
