Chapter 132: Being Nosy

Xie Zhuojun had a déjà vu. He felt like he had been fooled so many times before. The past flashed before his eyes. Everytime in the past, the feeling lasted only for a few moments and was so transient that he could just turn the other way and pretend like nothing happened. He could just ignore it all and bury his head in the sand.He always chose the easier option and provide Shangguan Rouxue with the benefit of the doubt.
This time though, it was different. The feeling was so vivid that there was no mistaking it. He just wanted to leave right away.
He broke into a cold sweat, thereby wetting his expensive shirt.
Shangguan Rouxue, who had had a fall, had already spoilt her gown. She was in pain, due to the fall, but what made things worse was that Xie Zhuojun didn’t come to her rescue like he usually did. In fact, he wasn’t even remotely concerned.
The moment she stood up and turned to look at him, she saw him look at her with such indifference, that a chill ran down her spine.
He had never looked at her in this way. He was making her nervous.
He had always been gentle and loving towards her.He had promised to always care for her. He wanted to give her the best of everything that the world had to offer. He was so committed to her that no matter what happened, he assured her that she would be the only one he loved!
Then why did it seem like everything had changed recently?
He had been unusually busy these days. When she got done with work at the TV Station, he would not be there, waiting for her outside the Station, to drive her home. When she missed him and wanted him to keep her company, he was always busy with clients. Even when her mother was injured and needed urgent treatment, he was not by her side.
What was more, when they were intimate, which was hardly ever lately, he wasn’t gentle and caring. He was harsh and didn’t care if she was in pain. She wondered if this was his way of venting his frustration. What had changed?
It was all Shangguan Ning’s fault!
If she had always stayed abroad and never returned home, Xie Zhuojun would never have second guessed his decision. He had become so fickle.
Her eyes were full of bitter vengeance, whenever she looked towards Shangguan Ning.
Somehow she had been able to acquire Xie Zhuojun’s attention and cut Shangguan Ning out of the picture. Even though it had all happened four years ago, she was confident that she would be able to pull it off, even today. She was never going to allow Shangguan Ning to stay in A City!
It was as if Shangguan Rouxue had multiple personalities. In an instant, the hatred in her eyes was replaced by innocence and sadness. If someone was to look at Shangguan Rouxue now, they would think that it was all Ning’s fault that Rouxue had a fall.
“Sister, how can you treat me like this? I am your sister! You ruined my mother’s face but I don’t blame you for that. That doesn’t mean that you and I can’t have a chat and sort out our differences by means of a conversation. Why did you have to do this to me? I really miss you.”
Most people had not watched the whole drama pan out from close quarters, like Xie Zhuojun had, so it was easy for them to fall in line with Shangguan Rouxue’s version of what happened. Now they all were under the impression that it was Shangguan Ning who caused Shangguan Rouxue trip over.
Guests looked at Shangguan Ning with disgust. How could someone do this to their own sister? Especially if the sister was extending an olive branch of peace and was willing to talk things out? Only Xie Zhuojun, who was standing next to Rouxue had watched her behaviour and expressions change, in a matter of minutes. He was hating Shangguan Rouxue more, with every passing minute.
Seeing Shangguan Ning’s expression, which was still calm and unaffected by all this, he felt as if he had made a huge mistake by choosing to be with Shangguan Rouxue.
Shangguan Rouxue panicked when she noticed that Xie Zhuojun was staring at her. She wasn’t sure if Xie Zhuojun had noticed her actions, but judging the way he was looking at her, it looked as if he had definitely picked up something.
No, no, she mustn’t allow Xie Zhuojun to doubt her. She was going to marry him and spend the rest of her life with him. He mustn’t suspect her.
Shangguan Rouxue’s face lost colour. She had to think of something. She pretended as if she had hurt her foot. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she looked like she was in a world of pain. “Zhuojun, I just twisted my ankle, please help me up, it hurts so much...”
In the past, this trick had always worked, whenever she chose to use it. No matter how angry Xie Zhuojun was, he would definitely come to her aid and comfort her.
This time, she waited for a while but got no reaction out of Xie Zhuojun. She even repeated herself twice, in case he hadn’t heard her the first time around, but he still didn’t move. He just stood there, transfixed, like a statue.
Just then, the doors of the banquet hall opened to welcome another well known personality. He was extremely good looking and had a magnetic personality.
The moment he walked in, he had the attention of all the women in the room.
He was tall and handsome. He looked so perfect that it wouldn’t be wrong of someone to mistake him for a demiGod. His eyes twinkled with energy and he spoke with a sexy drawl. He fit in perfectly with the crowd this evening, but somehow still managed to stand out and hold his own in a sea of guests.
Shangguan Ning subconsciously turned to look in the direction of the doors, when she heard them open. She found herself looking at Jing Yiran, who spotted her as soon as he entered the venue.
He was dressed in a dark brown English-style plaid suit with a double breasted jacket. It was a style that was a classic and never went out of fashion. Even though he was impeccably dressed, there was no way to hide his frivolous nature.
Shangguan Ning didn’t like him, so she ignored him and continued to search for Huang Xinyi, without wasting any more time.
Since Jing Yiran had entered the hall, all the women present wouldn’t stop looking at him, hoping that he would look their way too. He, on the contrary, was only interested in one woman. The one who couldn’t care to even give him a passing glance.
He wasn’t complaining. As long as she wasn’t unwell and fighting for her life, like the other day, he was alright. It wasn’t as much fun for him, when she wasn’t able to bite him and beat him. He loved it when she put up a fight. It made him desire her more. Just thinking of the things he could do to her now, made him feel all charged up.
When Jing Yiran was excited, he became nosy and talkative.
With hands in his trouser pockets, he swaggered to the side of Shangguan Rouxue and gave her a playful nudge. He then said mockingly, “Hey, Ms Shangguan. Your acting is so terrible. Thank God your livelihood doesn’t depend upon it. Can’t you see that you have given yourself away? Your act is up. Haven’t you noticed that your fiancé isn’t even paying attention to you? Just get up and get out! Sigh, strange are the ways of the world! Even famous socialites have to put on such terrible acts and beg for attention!”
After showering insults on Shangguan Rouxue, he ignored her and moved on to Xie Zhuojun.
Yiran said to him,”Have you lost your mind? How can you bear to be with this vicious woman? Oh yes, yes, I recollect. You were in a coma or something right? What can else one expect out of someone like you? Haha, this is so fascinating. Anyway, whatever rocks your boat, buddy.”
Jing Yiran couldn’t care less, whether it was Shangguan Ruoxue’s expression of astonishment or Xie Zhuojun’s anger. “I don’t think that you could think straight. You can’t be blamed though. You were a vegetable, so you can be forgiven for making such poor choices. It’s sad that you still haven’t corrected your mistakes. You’d better do something now or it would be too late, once you get married to her – he said, pointing to Shangguan Rouxue. He continued,”Divorce would prove to be very expensive for you. Your entire estate would be divided and you’d have to pay huge amounts of alimony every month. All this effort that you take to earn all this money, would go to waste. Understand? Sigh, I don’t think you do.”
“Oh yes, I have brought you some a present.” – Yiran said, as if he had just remembered something suddenly. He scooped out a crumpled picture from his pocket and forced it into the hands of Xie Zhuojun, who was already not in the right frame of mind.
