A small one room apartment was all Jay could afford at the moment. It had a bathroom off to the side and a kitchen built into the entryway. The main room consisted of a futon that he would fold up during the day to use as a couch.
"It's not much, but it's home," Jay replied as he opened the door and led Kana in. Kana looked around curiously. She had no shoes on, but she did not pass the front entryway due to her feet being dirty. When Jay noticed Kana still standing there, he said: "Don't worry and just come in. Look. I got shoes on still."
Kana looked at Jay and smiled before nodding her head. She finally walked in, her steps light as she looked around some more. There was a small radio on an old stand and no TV. There was a desk that had stacks of books on it, and that was about all the furniture he had. The floors were hardwood, and the heating was hot water. While the floor was slightly cold still, the room itself was toasty.
But Kana still had to ask one thing. "Are you sure I can stay here?"
"Yeah, don't worry. There is no clause in the lease that says I can not have a second person here. Just make yourself at home. This is your home now." Jay replied with a smile. He looked at Kana, looking around at everything, and smiled. He knew he was making a huge life adjustment. This was basically taking in a daughter. He wanted to give Kana a good life. One much different from what she had before. He may not be the richest man in the world, but he could at least provide everything she needed.
"There isn't really much space, but I am sure we can make do. I will be buying a floor futon tomorrow so you can sleep on the bed for tonight. I am sure you want to get cleaned up as well. So…." Jay scratched his head for a second before walking over to a pile of clean clothes he had stacked in the corner and dug out a shirt. "It's not much, but until I can get some clothes for you, just make do with this for now."
"Thank you." Kana smiled sweetly at the young man. She could tell he was trying to figure things out as he went. But this just showed that he was a good person. He threw caution to the wind and, instead of trying to dump her off someplace, decided to give her a proper home. Kana's heart was warm. She really wished to help this young man out as much as possible.
"This place was made to resemble a Japanese style studio, so the bathroom is a little different." Jay walked over and opened a small door. Kana opened and looked inside to see just a toilet with a sink built into the back.
Jay then opened another door, which was where the bath was. There was an area to wash your body and then a bathtub filled with water. "If you want me to change the water out, I can. The water here gets pretty hot, so be careful."
"Okay." Kana nodded and put the shirt raised in the entrance where a small basket sat. Jay smiled and closed the door to let her wash up in peace. From there, he went to the other side of the room and opened the balcony window to let some fresh air in. He only kept it open for a few minutes before closing it.
As Jay looked around the room and tried to plan what to do next, his cell phone rang. "Hello? Todd?"
"Yeah, dude, my parents want to help out big time. When I told them what you did today, they instantly started asking me questions. They said they could give you a sum of money to get everything she needs to get started with. They will also help you with the paperwork so that she can go to school. There is a lot more than we could ever imagine taking care of a kid, so this weekend, I will swing by and pick both you and the little one up. I already got the boss to give us both the day off on Sunday." Todd was shocked at how invested his parents got when he told him what Jay did. They always had a good impression of the hard working kid, but now he had gone and done something that really made them like him even more!
"Alright. I appreciate it. Do you think you can get me some clothes for tomorrow? Or should I go out and get some?" Jay asked. He did not want to rush anyone, but he did not want Kana running around with nothing.
"Right about that…." Todd paused for a second and let out a sigh. "My sister will be over at your place tomorrow. She will take you and Kana out to get what you need. For the time being. She will also make sure your fridge is full. Sorry man. I know you get annoyed with my sister, but once she heard about this, she almost flew over to your house right away. It took a lot to hold her back."
"It's fine. It's not that she really annoys me it is just that I do not want her to have feelings for me. She's your sister, and I know she deserves someone better than me." Jay actually liked Todd's sister but he couldn't see himself with a rich girl. It just did not feel right for him to drag her down.
"You belittle yourself too much. If you dated my sister I would be fine with it. Especially you. In fact please do! Not only would she be over the moon but so would my parents. Just take it as doing a favor for me." Todd had no issues with Jay and his sister getting together. He felt they would make a good couple.
