Chapter 1686: Life Sense
Ning handed the hairpin over to the young woman after explaining everything he had hidden from her.
"My... grandmother?" she asked, confused.
"Yes," Ning said. "Don't tell anyone about this and don't wear the hairpin while you are outside. Anyway, this is what your father wanted. Wear it. He will be happy."
The woman left the room in tears but with a smile. And Ning smiled as he heard the 'Ding' of the system.
The panel floated in front of him, giving him 20 points in total. In addition to the nearly 40 points he had from helping the various people in the city as well as the few other quests he had come across along the way, he now has over 60 points.
And, once again, a whole new list of things was opened for him to buy, of which his eye immediately went to one that was listed as costing 50 points.
[Small Dimensional Storage: 50 points (1 of 1)]
Ning quickly clicked on it, checking to see how large it was. The Tiny one he bought for 5 points had 20 cm by 20 cm by 20 cm of space.
This one, however, was more than 10 times larger than that. It was about 45 cm by 45 cm by 45 cm, which when added to the amount he had bought previously, gave him exactly an eighth of a meter cube in dimensional storage.
Ning knew for certain that was the thing he had to buy, which would still leave him with about 14 points.
Another thing Ning noticed was a Scroll of Return, which allowed him to directly teleport over to any location he had previously been to. He could also take up to 3 other people with him, which was more than handy.
The scroll though cost him 45 points, which was a bit more than what he could handle at the moment. If he had the points though, he could make use of it at some other time.
Ning stopped looking at it all randomly and instead checked it all from the start. There were more potions, more scrolls, more weapons, and more clothing.
There was something called Rune of Greater Enchantment, which was a small rune that could be used to enchant an attribute onto a weapon, armor, or trinket. The attributes enchanted itself were random, but were always a Major one.
It cost 35 points, so it wasn't something Ning could buy right away. He didn't have anything he wanted to enchant either.
His eyes fell on Trinkets higher up on the list, which he could buy with 2 minor attributes. They cost 20 points and were something he hadn't paid attention to last time because of the cost. But if he were to buy those and then use this Rune...
'No, waste of points for now,' Ning thought. 'I need something practically like the Dimensional Storage.'
Ning moved on, looking through the rest. There were Traps that cost 40 points, and more potions that did weird things like change your appearance or let you float for a brief period of time.
The healing potions got stronger as well, but they still couldn't bring back his arm, so he had no need to buy it.
Ning passed the Dimensional Storage, pretty sure that this would be the thing he would buy. But then, his eyes fell on something even below that, and knew in his heart of hearts, this would be the thing he bought.
[Life Sense (30 meters): 60 points]
He could buy a Divine sense of cultivators, it seemed. Upon reading it, he realized it was a little different. It didn't tell one everything that was around them, but helped to notice all life that was around them.
It worked with both humans and animals, but not plants. The sense could help him locate every person and being, and monitor their movement.
It was an incredible skill to gain, and given his current situation, he found it more than necessary. An eighth of a meter cube was great, but they had a cart to carry around things for now.
The map on the other hand was just something they couldn't have a substitute for.
Ning did not hesitate for a single moment after making the decision and bought Life Sense. Instantly, his points went down to 4, but he gained another sense to replace that. Instantly, he could tell there were over 150 people in the tavern at the moment. 10 of those were on the upper floor, and the rest were down at the tavern, drinking and having fun. Counting them all was not something he could do instantly, but he got a general idea of how many there were just through the sense itself.
To him, these people appeared like blobs of light in the void. There was no silhouette of these people, no way of him finding out if the person he saw was the same each time they left and came back within his senses.
One thing he did find out that he was thankful for was that the cows in the barn behind the tavern were distinct to him through the sense.
He couldn't explain how they were distinct, just that they were. He could even sense a cat lurking around and could tell it was a cat. Not a dog, not a bird.
It was quite fascinating.
He could see a blob of light in his mind close to him and turned to see Shara sitting by the bed, looking at the spear in her hand.
She noticed him turn around and looked at him. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing," Ning said, smiling.
"Aren't you gonna go down?" she asked.
"Down?" Ning frowned before realizing he had people waiting for him downstairs. It was only the evening before he left for the Lenes mountains, so there were more than enough people gathered here.
"Right, right. I've helped the woman, so I will go down," Ning said and walked out of the room, going down to see all the spirits that could help him still.
