The sound of waves crashing onto the shore could be heard. Natural light filled the room, streaming in through the large windows and illuminating every corner of the space.
Klaus in his bedroom, reading an ebook on his tablet, as the den had been sealed indefinitely. It's not like he could not sneak in, he just respected his mother's punishment.
After a while, he put down his tablet and leaned back in his chair, taking a deep breath of the fresh sea air.
"Why did the angels appear now?"
A week had passed since the dungeon break in Chinatown.
The image of the man who had an angelic aura could not disappear in his head. He wanted to meet that person but he didn't have any clue.
While Klaus was pondering, there was a knock on the door. A maid was seen standing in the doorway.
"Klaus, your father wants you to meet him in his workroom."
Without thinking twice, he got up from the chair and went to see his father.
The workroom was furnished with a large wooden desk, and Steve was sitting on a comfortable leather chair. The desk was cluttered with papers, books, and various office supplies, indicating that his father was a busy and hardworking individual.
"Sit down, Klaus."
Steve looked deeply into Klaus' eyes as if reading his mind, and he was just behaving like any good son would.
"Tell me," Steve said. "Since when did you become an awakener?"
"Actually, it's been a long time. Whenever I said I had club activities, I was actually practicing at the gymnasium. But I recently took a break because of the SATs."
"I wish you'd tell me earlier, I don't like you hiding things from me, but never mind."
Klaus had no choice but to lie to his father. Steve was sharp, if Klaus didn't give him the right answers, his father would likely find out more.
Besides, it was possible that Joanna told Steve everything.
"By the way," Steve continued. "There's something else I want to talk to you, about your future."
Klaus furrowed his eyebrows. "My future?"
"Yes. Honestly, I'm not angry that you brought Joanna into the dungeon. In fact, I'm proud that you protected your sister without any wounds. But more importantly, you're an awakener."
Klaus began to be interested in what his father wanted to talk about.
"What do you know about our company? LR Electronic." Steve asked as he twirled the pen.
Klaus pursed his lips. "It's a multinational company engaged in electronics and semiconductors, with 300,000 employees worldwide. Besides selling, the company also invests in technology research and development."
A big smile bloomed on Steve's face. "You're really my son, smart. But, you missed the big picture."
LR Electronic was a subsidiary company of a big company, LR Enterprise.
It was a multinational conglomerate that operated a wide range of businesses in various industries, including electronics, construction, financial services, and hospitality.
LR Enterprise accounted for 15% of the country's exports and distributed 10% of the average income of people in the US. Thanks to that, this company had influence over politics, media, and culture.
Overall, LR Enterprise was one of the major players in the global business world and a significant contributor to the United State's economy.
The man behind this huge company was Robert Lee.
He was the one who built LR Enterprise from scratch and the most powerful person in the company. His words were absolute and indisputable to his employees, in fact they saw him as a king.
Robert Lee was Klaus' grandfather.
Klaus was not very close to him. He only met his grandfather a few times, and it was only when there was an important event or family occasion.
In other words, they were quite strangers to each other, though they were blood related.
"Don't tell me it's about grandpa." Klaus guessed in curiosity.
"Exactly. I want you to meet your grandpa as an awakener on his birthday."
Seeing his serious father, Klaus immediately understood where this conversation was going.
"You want me to get grandpa's attention. Is this about a position in LR Enterprise?"
Steve snapped his fingers. "Exactly."
Robert Lee had three sons, and Steve was the youngest. Each of them was entrusted with a company and received shares in the LR Enterprise.
Lately, Robert had been paying a lot of attention to his grandson from the first son. In fact, they were not so close earlier, and the reason why they became close was because that grandson was an awakener.
That's why Steve wanted Klaus to meet his grandfather.
"Listen to me, son," Steve said in a quiet but serious tone. "I see a lot of potential in you. You're smart, perceptive, sharp, and sensitive to people around you. You're ten times better than me. But you have no ambition."
Hearing his father's words, Klaus began to think about it seriously. All this time he had just lived casually and enjoyed what his family provided. In a way, Klaus had no goals.
He lived as a Death Bringer in his previous life, someone who lived to bring destruction and death. He had never experienced what it was like to lead people.
Klaus might have been able to easily destroy this world, but it was difficult for him to master and control it.
"This seems pretty interesting," he thought.
It was time for Klaus to try a new challenge.
"I won't force you," Steve said. "It's okay if you refuse. You can still inherit LR Electronic. But, it's a shame to let your potential go to waste. If you're willing, you have to get your awakener certification."
"Then what about mom? She hates dungeons and awakener things."
"Don't worry, leave it to me."
Klaus pursed his lips. "Well, I guess being an awakener isn't a bad idea."
Steve smiled instantly, he stood up from his seat and hugged Klaus.
"After you get your certification, we'll to fly to Seattle."
