Liam left the underground shelter with his old team. Nobody wanted to stay behind as they felt that something big was about to happen.
They noticed that Liam anticipated something, which usually meant that there was a great opportunity awaiting them as well.
Nobody wanted to miss out on an opportunity that excited even Liam. It could only mean that their strength would increase drastically!
"While extracting the blood and collecting the glands of the monsters previously mentioned, we will have to pay attention to the plants in the sewers. It shouldn't be surprising but there is a Monster Spawn in the Sewers. The Monster Spawn radiates the poisonous Arcane Power of the Monsters which the Spawn creates. That is also part of the reason why the mutated animals in the sewers have such a unique mutation. One could even say that they have evolved into higher lifeforms due to the same reason.
I will remove the Monster Spawn with the Livral Orb, and we will have to collect a bunch of herbs as well. So pay attention!"
Nobody really knew what a Monster Spawn was but they learned about it soon enough. A Monster Spawn created monsters by devouring the lifeforms in its surrounding. While it sounded grotesque at first, it was an extremely interesting process that allowed monsters to become much stronger.
That way, ordinary animals evolved into monsters with a combat prowess that rivaled that of the Canine Shedim. In fact, Liam was pretty sure that the monsters might even be stronger than the Canine Shedim!
Carefully pacing through the city, they soon reached the entrance of the underground sewers. Their footsteps echoed in the dark, damp alleyway, causing the girls to stiffen. They took a deep breath, ignoring the musty smell that filled their nostrils, mixed with the stench of the sewage, as they descended the old stone steps leading them underground.
There were not many sources of light, if one excluded the lightbulbs in the sewers. Most lightbulbs had already burst, and some flickered weakly, leaving dots of utter darkness in between the barely illuminated areas of the sewers' tunnels. Liam didn't have much of a problem with traveling through the darkness.
The passive attribute of his Devil's Eyes Soultrait allowed Liam to see in the dark.
Flickering shadows could be seen in the poorly illuminated sewer tunnels, but Liam mostly ignored them. He told the others to purchase Nightvision glasses that were empowered through Arcane Power.
The glasses were not really expensive, but that also came with a restriction. Arcane Power had to be constantly channeled into the glasses, even though their effect was not extremely good. The nightvision allowed the wearer to only see in a range of fewer than 20 meters.
But that was more than enough.
As they entered the sewers, the team was greeted by a maze of tunnels and pipes, stretching out in every direction. The walls were slick with slime and moss, while the sound of dripping water echoed throughout the tunnels, creating an eerie atmosphere that caused everyone's hair to stand up to its end.
Liam ignored the eerie atmosphere and made his way deeper into the sewers. The air grew staler and the space became narrower. It was still not too narrow for three people to walk next to each other, but it was only a matter of time before this would change as well.
Liam made use of the information he had received from the Memory Crystal as he led the group through the maze of the underground sewers. The smell of murky water filled his nostrils but it was bearable. However, that was still fine until he smelled and felt something at the same time that caused his expression to change quickly.
Debris blocked the path in front of them, but Liam ignored this by squeezing through tight spaces to find his way to the intersection that lay behind the debris.
The tunnels seemed endless and it was difficult to tell where they were headed. However, Liam made use of rusty metal gates and occasional ladders that seemed to lead to the surface as signs to find the intersection in front of them.
A large mass of green liquid was hovering in the air of the intersection's center. It radiated a great sense of danger and glowed brightly enough to illuminate the entire intersection.
"The Spawn of the Ancient Vermin Draklings. To think that I would actually find an opportunity to get you in my hands...or rather your energy!" Liam mumbled with a greedy smile on his face. The green liquid was the most poisonous existence that Liam had ever encountered in the past. Not even beings with four Ancient Circles would dare to touch it without precautions.
It was a creation of his mother's acquaintance, and it showed just how important the Jula Valley was to many races and higher existences. The Spawn of the Ancient Vermin Draklings was even more valuable than the Rift leading to the Shedim's Kingdom.
Liam knew that it would help him increase his strength rapidly as long as he used the Livral Orb to turn the Spawn of the Vermin Draklings to Arcane Power.
"Is that why you were so excited to come down here?" Olivia asked, not too sure what to think about the green liquid that levitated in the center of the intersection. It was less than 50 meters away from them, and Olivia couldn't help but feel a little bit afraid.
| сom It was unusual for her to feel afraid of something that was not even alive. Even the Shedim's Rift hadn't been able to scare her. Did she feel an oppressive presence in the Shedim's Rift? Yes. Was she afraid of the Rift? Not really.
However, even though Liam was by their side, she couldn't help but feel a little afraid about the Spawn of the Ancient Vermin Draklings. She really didn't want to get closer to it.
"Excited? I was?" Liam asked a little astonished.
The others nodded their heads without diverting their eyes from the Spawn of the Ancient Vermin Draklings.
'I was excited? Well, the Spawn is definitely something worth being excited about!'
"There is more than just the Spawn to be excited about!"
