”Look at that guy. Even literal bitches would chose a dog over him.”
”How can someone be this ugly?”
Jake walked through the college’s halls while trying his best to ignore the fingers, gossips and sneers directed at him. He had gained certain immunity to such comments long ago but it still stung. These people had fun making fun of him, didn’t they?
Even though he was already 19, he never inched higher than 5’2”. When he tried his best to look good, his face was still perfect to scare children and induce disgusted looks from anyone whosoever looked at him.
Walking at a quick pace wearing brown jeans and a blue t-shirt, he could be dissed and dismissed at a glance.
‘I don’t belong here.’
He was Jake Farlen, a second semester literature student at a public college in Baltimore. Single, virgin and without any friends, that was him now. His only solace in such a life was light novels and video games. However, he didn’t have time to enjoy even those things which he liked.
Coming from a middle-class background, he worked part-time at a gas station to pay off his rent and buy daily necessities. $8.5 per hour and a night shift at that, it was hectic. Jake had tried finding a better job but somehow others didn’t want to hire him, judging him unreliable.
His parents were simple corporate slaves who earned barely $50,000 a year. Living in a city of a first world nation, that income was lacking. Jake left the home a year ago but they still paid for his tution fees.
However, with how prices were increasing day by day, the Farlen family’s finances were stretching thin. Jake was informed that they might not be able to pay for him starting next semester. At this rate, he may have to drop out and find a full-time job instead.
”What a cruel reality…” Jake turned back to look at the college’s building which he had left.
Students of different batches walked around the compound in groups, some sat on the porch’s railings, some under the trees in the park. He could see a couple flirting, some beautiful girls snapping their selfies, a guy reading a book with a female student…
These youths had their lives filled with colors, and his life was just gray. He may not even come here anymore.
‘I wonder when was the last time I ever talked to a friend?’ Jake asked himself as he left the college and headed downtown. If he walked that extra mile to reach his home, he’d save himself a few dollars. And that would be an exercise as well…
Before 16, Jake had been hardworking. He was more optimistic, social and bright. Even when he found out that he could no longer grow while others became taller and stronger than him, he still had hope in his heart. Yes, he wasn’t good-looking and he was short. He could accept it. He would work harder to study. Maybe good academics would help him-
Reality wasn’t like that.
One by one, the people Jake knew as ”friends” started associating with him less and less. In high school, he soon became a frequent subject to bullying and name-calling. His advances were rejected by every girl he liked, no matter how sincere he had been.
He remembered how he was once humiliated in the whole classroom for confessing to that Kelly. How cringe and naive he was. Jake wanted to punch his past self.
Nobody was a saint, he had been ignorant of this fact. Looks and height mattered a lot in first impressions. After that time, Jake lost all confidence and isolated himself, playing MMO games most of the time. He didn’t work out, nor did he care to know anyone anymore. Everything was meaningless now.
Thinking back to how he was 3 years ago, Jake hadn’t changed much. Maybe his beliefs about this selfish world had solidified more.
‘Oh, they changed this signboard.’ Turning another corner, Jake arrived at a crossroad. Seeing that the signal was green, he walked through the street.
However, just as he reached the pedestrian crossing’s middle, he heard a loud horn. Turning his head to the left, he saw a lorry speeding towards him.
”What the fuc-” He dashed to the otherside as the truck seemed to show no indications of stopping.
Alas, his legs couldn’t compare to the truck’s rolling tires. He was a tad bit too slow and got hit by the truck’s front.
Jake felt a heavy jolt on his body and a crippling pain when his head hit the ground. Blood started flowing from his temples like water from a pierced watermelon.
‘Aahhh… even this worthless life comes to an end…’ Jake thought as his vision turned dark. But something wasn’t right here.
‘…’
‘How…’
‘…How the fuck can I still think?!’
Jake was confused. He felt like he was floating in the sky with no aim. He didn’t feel any pain, just peaceful. After a few moments being in that condition, Jake vaguely heard a girl’s voice.
”Master, someone is approaching the dungeon…”
Jake opened his eyes as a melodic voice rang near his left ear. He was stunned to find two beautiful girls laying on his lap!
They had a sweet smell about them and their soft bodies soothed his mind.
The pale girl on the right was wearing a striking red dress that showed her ample cleavage. She had crimson eyes, dark red lips, and a coquettish smile on her face.
The girl on the left was a busty beauty who caught his gaze for a long time. Wearing a dark revealing one piece with a cut between her breasts, she pressed her upper body on him while blushing.
Both of their hot breaths tingled his ears and cheeks. Jake was completely stunned to find that he was fondling them. He couldn’t help but gulp at the soft and warm sensation that electrified his body.
They were his… servants? A vampiress and a succubus? Jake suddenly felt pain in his head.
Then new memories sprouted in his mind. He was a Demon Baron with the same name. However, he had no special bloodline and was thus exiled from Hell.
Yuuna, the young succubus, wanted to see what a human world was like and thus sneaked out with him.
As for the 1st Circle Vampiress, she was an Isolated Blood. Erin had no Progenitor to protect and control her in this world ruled by powerful human knights, church’s bishops and mysterious mages.
Thus, she pledged loyalty to him, finding shelter in his crappy dungeon which was located in a remote valley.
As the new memories settled in Jake’s mind, he looked around to see himself inside a stone chamber lit by red torches.
This dungeon’s conditions were truly terrible as there was still no mana crystal forming this close to the dungeon core. Its defenses could be broken with a simple 1st Circle Spell.
‘I have less than 100 monsters to defend it. Wandering adventurers can wreak havoc… this doesn’t bode well.’ Just as Jake thought things weren’t good for him, he suddenly heard a female voice in his head.
