Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 57: The Golden Two Wings Sorcerer

Red Mist Tavern.

“Don’t be scared, just kill Ashe already! How can you tolerate his arrogance?”

“Aren’t you a serial killer? How can you be so easily persuaded?”

“This batch of death row inmates is the most cowardly I’ve seen!”

The customers cried out in dismay as Scarface lowered his hand—they were all clever enough to have anticipated conflict among the inmates due to the arrangement of the Blood Moon Tribunal, and thus had placed substantial bets on the ‘death row inmates will kill each other’ outcome.

Now that Scarface had been talked down by Ashe, it looked like their bets were going to sink like stones.

“But this Ashe kid is quite interesting. Can we see him in the Blood Moon Tribunal a few more times?”

“I’m more curious to see his face when he becomes a Redeemed. It’s sure to be amusing.”

“Is it still possible to place an order for his and the Elves’ Full Blood? I’m getting a little hungry.”

“It’s not like the Prison is without those of the sacred bloodline; they don’t even have enough to go around, so how could you possibly get any? Dreaming of ordering Full Blood… You might have a better chance ordering hemorrhoid blood.”

Lorens, who was drinking alone, looked at Ashe Heath on the Holographic Screen and suddenly remembered a past event.

It was several years ago, before he had undergone the Blood Transfusion Ritual, back when he was still a student at Kaimon College. He had been handed a flyer in the second cafeteria.

He vaguely remembered that it was from a student mutual aid Club, with the principles of ‘courage,’ ‘wisdom,’ ‘life,’ and ‘joy.’ But at that time, he was about to graduate and naturally had no interest in it.

Lorens didn’t know why this memory had resurfaced.

But as he looked again at Ashe Heath, a faint sense of… familiarity stirred within him.

His hand, poised to vote, began to tremble slightly.

Are we the ones who should be leaving?!

Although it sounded somewhat reasonable, every death row inmate felt a stifling sense of frustration looking at Ashe’s defiant face. It was like waiting in line for an hour, only to have someone tap your shoulder and say, ‘You’re in the wrong line, you should go over there, and let me cut in front of you.’

And upon closer consideration, this path wasn’t viable either, for their Small Platform still had an Executioner. The Flames of Atonement were but a tickle for Ashe and Valcas, but for them, it was agony to the marrow!

“Or maybe there’s a better way,” another lean man with a dagger said ominously. “Once the Voting Segment ends, before the Executioner gets here, we kill the two of you. That way, the Executioner won’t have to come.”

“Yes!”

“Subdue both of them first!”

“Capture them and chop off their limbs, then throw them into the sea after the voting ends!”

Ashe inwardly cursed his luck. At this moment, his combat abilities were only slightly above those of a normal person. He could handle a Deathmatch, but how could he possibly overcome a group of ruthless and wicked sorcerers without any Restrictions?

From afar, Nago shouted, “Although the Prison cannot intervene during the trial phase, I advise you not to commit suicide or mutilate each other. Creating slaughter under the Blood Moon only adds to your crimes. It’s not too late to repent now. Don’t harm Ashe Heath; just let him wait quietly in my Boots for the trial to come…”

My Boots… my Boots… Nago stamped his feet in urgency, thinking to himself that while it’s fine to cause a ruckus, they shouldn’t joke about his Boots, and during the fight, they had better not get any blood on them!

As Ashe stood on the edge of the Main Platform, trembling, and the Death row inmates advanced step by step, suddenly a whooshing sound came from beside him!

Clang!

A mark of Sword Qi slashed between Ashe and the crowd, penetrating three feet deep, resonating with the sound of swords!

“Do you… think you can catch me?”

When everyone was focused on Ashe, Valcas had silently ascended the Main Platform, picked up a Longsword from the ground, and with a light swing, unleashed crisscrossing Sword Qi!

However, Valcas’s deterrence did not make the Death row inmates back down. Dagger Man licked his blade with his tongue and sneered, “So what if you are a Swordcerer? There are six of us, and only two of you… Besides, it seems like everyone here is a Sorcerer!”

With a flash of silver light, the elegant Silver Wings unfurled on Dagger Man’s back, and strong waves of arcane energy rippled out like waves!

Silver Wings!

The external manifestation of a Sorcerer’s arcane energy, the mysterious medium to touch the Rules!

Only those travelers who have voyaged for miles in the Sea of Knowledge can condense the Silver Wings!

As for Ashe at the moment, he couldn’t even condense a single feather, let alone the Silver Wings. Although Dagger Man’s Silver Wings were not large, they indicated that he had traveled at least two to three thousand miles in the Sea of Knowledge, suggesting he had been a Sorcerer for quite some time!

While the size of the Silver Wings isn’t directly linked to combat power, the more complete the Silver Wings are, it means the Sorcerer has voyaged further in the Sea of Knowledge, encountered more Inheritance, visited more Adventure Islands, and slain more Knowledge Creatures!

At the very least, Ashe could be sure that he wouldn’t be able to defeat Dagger Man in a one-on-one fight!

The other Death row inmates snorted coldly, each revealing their own Silver Wings, even the Ogre had a small section the size of a chicken wing.

And the most complete Silver Wings belonged to the Necromancer, Harvey, almost fully unfurled, likely only a short distance from completing the Voyage of Ten Thousand Miles. Noticing Ashe’s surprised gaze, Harvey gave a warm smile, his eyes filled with enthusiasm when looking at Ashe.

Ashe blinked.

Could it be that after an afternoon of companionship, Harvey had decided to acknowledge me as a good brother?

But upon closer inspection, Ashe suddenly remembered that Harvey had shown the same warmth and enthusiasm when talking about handling bodies in the past, which turned Ashe’s face dark—damn, could it be that Harvey, having not dealt with fresh corpses in the Prison for many days, wanted to indulge himself using this opportunity?

But this time it really was over for him. Ashe, a Sorcerer who had barely entered the Virtual Realm a few days ago, with only a Substitute spirit on his entire body, how could he possibly compete with six Silver Sorcerers? Even with Valcas, they wouldn’t stand a chance—

Clang!

The sound of Valcas’ Silver Wings unfurling was like the hum of swords, as a dazzling silvery-golden light suppressed the Silver Wings of the six Death row inmates.

Valcas’ Silver Wings were fully extended!

Each feather shimmered like a firefly, and every flap seemed to twist the very Rules of reality!

Compared to Valcas’ perfect Silver Wings, Harvey’s appeared like outdated stock pulled from a dusty warehouse—indeed, under the brilliant light of the perfect silver, Harvey’s Silver Wings wilted, as if ashamed of their own dinginess.

It was not just the perfect Silver Wings; Valcas also possessed a small segment of resplendent Golden Wings!

A Golden Two Wings Sorcerer!

Valcas had completed the voyage through the Sea of Knowledge, Breaking through the limits of knowledge, summoning a pair of spirit wings, and successfully ascended as a traveler of the Virtual Realm in the Time Continent!

“So, do you still think two people can’t beat six?”

Hearing Valcas’ mocking tone, Dagger Man forced out a smile uglier than crying, wanting to hide behind others, only to realize everyone had distanced themselves from him. He had no choice but to bow his head and say, “Mr. Uhl, I was just joking earlier, please…”

“Not funny.”

“…Please forgive me…”

“Kneel down, and if you crack your head open, I’ll forgive you.”

Without a word, Dagger Man slammed his head onto the ground, which even made Ashe wince in pain. After three bows, Dagger Man’s forehead split open, blood streaming down the bridge of his nose, looking quite pitiful.

“Mr. Uhl, is this enough?”

“While it’s a bit unsightly, the sincerity is decent. You’ve passed the test.”

Dagger Man breathed a sigh of relief, quickly shrinking to the side, not daring to utter another threat, his Cowardice making him seem quite pathetic.

But everyone could understand, after all, the other person was a Golden Two Wings Sorcerer. Though they could perhaps overpower a Golden Two Wings Sorcerer by swarming him, was it necessary?

Why bother with a fellow inmate, to fight a Swordcerer known for being one of the strongest in close to mid-range combat, to the death?

Wouldn’t it be better to just sell out Dagger Man?

Dagger Man also knew that if Valcas wanted to kill him, the others would definitely stand by and even clap their hands in joy, so showing Cowardice was the only way to survive.

Ashe quickly walked over to Valcas’ side, looking down at this group of cowardly Death row inmates with his arms crossed.

Hmph, how formidable we both are.

“That makes us even.”

Valcas’ words left Ashe somewhat astonished.

“What?”

Without turning his head, Valcas said, “If it wasn’t for you just now, I might still be standing on the Steel Wire.”

Ashe blinked, “Oh, that. I did it for myself, not specifically to help you.”

“Regardless, I’ve repaid the favor. Don’t blame me later on.”

Ashe was startled, “What are you going to do next?”

“What else?”

Valcas sneered and flicked the blade of his sword.

“Live like Maggots, fly like flies, fight like dung beetles.”

Ashe realized something and pulled out his Holographic Screen to tune into the live broadcast channel.

“The current highest-voted person: Valcas Uhl, 244,623 votes.”
