Sorcerer’s Handbook

Ashe and Sonya sat in the boat, their eyes glued to the sorcerer handbook bound in cowhide leather.

Like the previous sorcerer handbooks, this one contained no information about the sorcerer himself, so they tentatively referred to him as ‘the Explorer’.

Why call him that? Because his greatest hobby was exploring various natural landscapes, and the content of this handbook was about the various places he had traveled to in the past.

“Lava Cave”

“After spending over a year at the construction site, the third phase finally came to an end. Before the captain takes on a new job, I should have enough time to visit the Lava Cave.”

“Arriving at the village closest to the Lava Cave, but the captain says he’s received a big project, sigh.”

“Months later, I found some time again to explore the Lava Cave. I was lucky this time; I spent a good sum of money to hire a local to take me inside.”

“It’s marvelous, the lava flowing on the ground, the pollen from the blooming flowers can actually ignite and explode, yet inside the Lava Cave is a cold and refreshing underground river… A wonderful spectacle!”

“I’m so happy, and so scared—I actually encountered a female azure dragon; it must have escaped from the Virtual Realm a long time ago, creating a nest inside the Lava Cave! Haha, I took photos, and just the fee I got for submitting them is enough to afford another trip to the Lava Cave!”

This is the general format. The Explorer often goes through various difficulties before embarking on his journey, and sometimes has to interrupt the trip due to work. One could say he takes care of the immediate needs while not forgetting the poetic and distant places.

“He must be a Civil Engineer,” Sonya said, with Ashe nodding in agreement.

Living on the construction sites for long periods, working continuously when there’s a project, and taking a rest without income when there’s none. Plus, traveling solo, I guess the Explorer will remain a bachelor dog for life… Indeed, Civil Engineers seem to be the same in every world.

The first half of the handbook details the various sights the Explorer has visited in reality, while the second half covers those within the Sea of Knowledge—yes, to the Explorer, the Virtual Realm is also considered a tourist attraction.

If you come across a sorcerer who likes fishing, Ashe would not doubt he would fish in the Sea of Knowledge, but fishing there is obviously high risk and low reward: either the sorcerer comes back empty-handed, or the Knowledge Creature isn’t biting.

There are numerous sights in the Sea of Knowledge, besides the “Whirlpool”, there are “Sea Waterfall”, “Great Path”, “Sky Bubble”, and other perpetual sights, many of which even Sonya has never heard of—because, unlike the “Whirlpool”, they don’t offer any benefits to sorcerers, so Swordflower College naturally wouldn’t teach about them.

The “Sea Waterfall” is exactly as it sounds, a waterfall where the sea surface suddenly plummets downwards; the “Great Path” is a road that traverses the entire Sea of Knowledge; the “Sky Bubble” is a massive bubble floating in the sky, and when it appears, the surrounding white mist lightens considerably.

These three are sights the Explorer has personally experienced. He once jumped into the Sea Waterfall to see what was below, only to die and exit the Virtual Realm; he ran a great distance on the Great Path until he was completely exhausted; he watched the Sky Bubble drift past, moving so fast he couldn’t possibly keep up.

The words in the Sorcerer Handbook brimmed with the Explorer’s joy and excitement at witnessing the marvels of the world, causing both Ashe and Sonya to smile knowingly.
