Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 89: Swordswoman, Do You Dislike Me?

In the Virtual Realm, atop a certain Inheritance Island, flames engulfed the land!

“Blazing fires, consume my Crippled Body!”

A Chopping Axe Sorcerer clad in heavy armor let out a roar, his body erupting in fierce flames, even his pupils turned to fire, and with an open mouth, he breathed out a fiery breath, while boiling Magma flowed from the gaps in his armor!

Flames danced along the edge of the Chopping Axe, and with a loud shout, he swept across, forcing Sonya to quickly retreat. Suddenly, he rolled to the left and lunged forward, the axe morphing into the shape of a Slash Sword, viciously thrusting towards Ashe, who was sneakily attacking with his Heart Sword!

Ashe immediately plunged his sword into the ground, invoking the ‘Earth Sword’ and ‘Wind Barrier’ spirits, creating the miracle known as the ‘Sword Barrier’!

A bright yellow sword barrier wrapped flawlessly around Ashe!

Clang!

The Slash Sword collided with the Sword Barrier, emitting a piercing boom, but even as the flames on the Slash Sword were eroded by the sword winds, Ashe did not retreat a step, and the barrier remained completely intact!

This Defensive Miracle, powered by the core of the Two Wings spirits, was almost equivalent to an impregnable fortress in the Sea of Knowledge!

Despite the thwarted attack, the Chopping Axe Sorcerer’s eyes still burned fiercely. He growled lowly, and the Slash Sword gushed boiling Magma, stabbing viciously towards the Sword Barrier!

“Joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure, all fall to dust!”

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

With each explosion, the Magma-gushing Slash Sword bombarded the Sword Barrier like a cannon, Ashe’s arcane energy nearly vanished like a waterfall, and the luster of the Wind Barrier dimmed, appearing to wobble and on the verge of shattering any moment!

This was the Chopping Axe Sorcerer’s Attack Miracle!

“Swordswoman!”

Following Ashe’s shout, Sonya was Ready, her wooden sword’s tip gleaming with a metallic shine as it slid through the Sorcerer’s armor like cutting through butter!

Simultaneously, the wooden sword unleashed a sharp vibration, transforming into expanding, spinning blade wheels that sliced the Chopping Axe Sorcerer into dozens of pieces!

Only after obtaining the ‘Slash Sword’ did Sonya’s ‘Rupture Wave Slash’ become truly complete. The Vibration Sword excelled in impact rather than cutting, and the Splitting Sword was designed to increase the attack area at the cost of weakened power, so previously, the ‘Rupture Wave Slash’ seemed intimidating but was actually lacking in damage.

But now, with the sharpness of the Slash Sword, the Rupture Wave Slash compensated for the lack of damage, and combined with a large attack area and medium-short attack range, it was considered one of the most practical Swordsmanship Miracles among One Wing Swordcerers!

The only issue was that Sonya had just acquired the Slash Sword, and the combination was not yet smooth, requiring some time to prepare and synchronize. She had been unable to find an opportunity to unleash it until now, as Ashe had drawn the aggro, giving her enough time to cast it.

Of course, whether she deliberately wanted to see Ashe take a beating, no one knew.

“With compassion for all beings, comes great suffering…”

With a final sigh, the Chopping Axe Sorcerer extinguished like a flame, leaving behind four spirits and a Sorcerer Handbook.

However, neither of them rushed to collect the spoils of war. Ashe looked at Sonya, puzzled: “Why have you been so quiet tonight? Is your throat sore?”

From the moment she entered the Virtual Realm, the Swordswoman had been unusually silent. Ashe had thought she might be in a bad mood, but the lack of even a brief comment after the battle was highly abnormal.

In the past, she would boast about her contributions in the fight, then point out the mistakes Ashe made, making him unconsciously feel minimal in his contributions and filled with gratitude towards her…

Wait a second?

Thinking about it, was the Swordswoman always using her words to suppress me, to make me dependent on her?

Just as Ashe’s office worker radar started to react, Sonya shook her head, puffed up with anger, and pointed at Ashe, then at her mouth.

Ashe understood: “Are you saying that because of the Random Spirit Summoning Card, you’re in the middle of a Summoning Ritual and can’t talk?”

Sonya nodded.

“Then you can write. Whatever you want to say, just write it in the sand.”

Sonya had a lightbulb moment, clapped her hands, and wrote a few words in the sand with her wooden sword.

‘Observer, I curse you, you infernal Small horn.’

Ashe looked at Sonya, who was looking at the words on the sand, and she said, “It turns out I can’t lie, not just with my mouth, but even in writing I can’t go against my Sincerity.”

Through Sonya’s explanations—which included an insult every five sentences—Ashe quickly understood: she had randomly summoned the spirit of ‘Sincerity’ through the Summoning Ritual. This ritual was extremely simple; it didn’t require the sweat of Swordsmanship Training or the extensive time commitment of studying other Magical Factions. The catch was that she must be honest and could not lie.

Honestly, Sonya’s luck wasn’t bad. Not only because the ‘Sincerity’ spirit from the Mind Faction was very precious, but because this Summoning Ritual actually doesn’t affect most people much.

Take Ashe, for example. He tells the truth every day, yet no one believes he’s the wrongfully accused Cult Leader.

For the average person, even if they had to tell the truth every day, they could just stay at home or remain quiet when out and about.

But Sonya was different—she was a prominent figure at school, constantly watched by countless people. It wasn’t just that she didn’t look for trouble; trouble came to her, from those seeking connections to those with hidden agendas, both from within and outside the school.

If Sonya had always been distant and cold, it might have been fine, but the problem was she had previously been the obedient student, the good young lady, the perfect persona who could grace a banquet or enter a Silver Training hall, subtly seen as the Swordflower of the freshman class.

Her sudden inability to lie was like a persona collapse. It gave the impression that Sonya, successful and arrogant, could no longer be bothered to maintain relationships!

As Ashe listened, he couldn’t help but laugh, and Sonya got angry: “Are you mistaken? I’m in trouble now, and you’re not hurrying to help me stop this ritual!”

“I’m sorry, I can’t help but laugh at your misfortune without professional Training,” Ashe chuckled. “But by stopping this ritual, you won’t be able to summon ‘Sincerity’ on your own, nor will you be able to advance to the Silver realm in the Mind Faction. Are you sure that’s okay?”

Sonya hesitated: “If I continue with this Ritual, I will offend many people in the coming days. And their worth compared to the Mind Faction… it’s clear that the Mind Faction is more important.”

After saying this, Sonya was startled by her own realization—was this really what she thought? Was she the type of person who valued personal power above all else, to the point of sacrificing her interpersonal relationships?

“See, that’s what you’re saying.”

“But at least help me pause it for one day! I have to host the Mixer Party in a few days, and I will have to lie then. Otherwise, I’ll offend a lot of people!”

“I can’t do that,” Ashe spread his hands. “After I’ve arranged your schedule for this week, not even I can cancel it. At most, I can add some special events for you on short notice, but I can’t reduce your existing commitments.”

“Incompetent! You’re just a Weakling who can control me through mean tricks!”

“You’re right, after all, it’s not me who’s controlling you, but Aurora… my gift from a past life.” Ashe shrugged.

Sonya had anticipated this because the Observer’s ability to control her was vastly different from the Observer’s own combat power. This meant that the Observer was not relying on his ‘current’ abilities to control her.

If it wasn’t the present, then it had to be the legacy left by him as a Legend before he was reborn with amnesia.

Perhaps this was why the Observer kept clinging to her: he couldn’t freely use that legacy, and since the legacy had randomly chosen her, the Observer could only try to help her become stronger so that Sonya could eventually reciprocate once she reached a certain level of power.

Sonya’s insult earlier wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thing. Since entering the Virtual Realm, she had been strategizing to use the label ‘I can only tell the truth now’ to slightly cross the line in accusing the Observer, prompting him to reveal more information without causing his displeasure.

‘Honesty’ can be used to one’s advantage.

As Sonya was digesting the information revealed by Ashe, he suddenly asked, “By the way, Swordswoman, do you hate me?”

“No, I don’t.”

Sonya immediately covered her mouth after speaking, her brows nearly shooting up—she was genuinely angry now.

“I warn you, if you take this opportunity to ask about the secrets in my heart,” she said seriously, “I will resent you for a lifetime.”

“Sorry, my apologies, that was my fault,” Ashe quickly apologized three times, “You have first pick of tonight’s spoils… huh?”

During their conversation, the four spirits that the Chopping Axe Sorcerer had released had unconsciously crawled onto Ashe, with one particularly audacious cat-shaped, single-winged spirit rubbing incessantly in Ashe’s armpit as if it smelled wonderful.

Noticing Sonya’s puzzled look, Ashe explained, “I used a Spirit Excitation Potion, which is stronger than the Joy Potion you and I drank, so the spirits are all clinging to me now.”

“Does this potion make spirits actively seek us out?”

“I don’t know, but it can increase the spirits’ affection towards us, so maybe?”

The four spirits are the ‘Slash Axe’, ‘Incineration’, ‘Magma’, and ‘Crippled Body’. The Slash Axe is an essential spirit for the axe-wielding Sorcerer, effectively enhancing the destructive power of both the axe and Slash Sword forms. Interestingly, it happens to be a cat-shaped spirit.

‘Incineration’ and ‘Magma’ are Fire Magic spirits, and their combined Miracle nearly burst Ashe’s Sword Barrier.

The ‘Crippled Body’ belongs to the Physical Faction, with the specific effect that the heavier the damage received, the stronger the body’s recovery and resistance become, and it significantly reduces the sensation of pain. Therefore, the ‘natural Miracle’ that the axe-wielding Sorcerer had just used turned out to be a commonly used skill.

This Battle also shows that the Sorcerer projections they encounter are becoming increasingly formidable, from the initial Gun Technique practitioner with only one spirit to this axe-wielding Sorcerer with four spirits and mastery of two Miracles. The rapid growth of arcane energy leads to the Gate of Truth delving deeper into the Sea of Knowledge.

Unless one chooses to lay flat and escape, the Virtual Realm is always in pursuit of the Sorcerer.

Sonya flipped through the Sorcerer Handbook twice and then threw it to Ashe. Ashe caught it and saw it was a ‘Spoils of Battle Catalog’ — could it be that the axe-wielding Sorcerer was a bandit in his previous life?

No, Ashe quickly dismissed this idea. This axe-wielding Sorcerer was probably a religious mercenary, or rather, a mercenary with religious beliefs, because most of the spoils were contributed as supplies to the ‘Temple of Cataclysmic Fire’ mentioned within.

The spoils consisted of various supplies that were offered up to the Temple, members of the Intelligent Race were developed into followers, and any spirits or Miracle Procedures were also handed over to the Temple for distribution. It’s unclear whether this axe-wielding Sorcerer had an excellent moral character or if the Temple’s rules were stringent, but the Sorcerer almost never pocketed spoils for himself, except for…

“Swordswoman, take a look at this.”

“I’m not like you, a Bewitcher who accepts all comers without rejecting any meat or vegetable.” Sonya spread her hands and said, “You know, I can’t lie right now.”

Although Ashe felt she was taking the opportunity to scold him openly and he didn’t even have the right to talk back, he had no evidence.

“It’s written here how to trigger a Whirlpool.”

“A Whirlpool, huh? No wonder… Trigger a Whirlpool?”

Facing Sonya’s surprised gaze, Ashe nodded, “According to the book, a Whirlpool is actually a Virtual Realm mechanism that can be triggered by people!”
