Sorcerer’s Handbook

Chapter 99: The Observer?

The mixer party came to an abrupt halt, and all students were hurried back to their dormitories as a great white tower rose from the ground, with the nearby area being cordoned off as a military zone.

The students had no idea what the significance of the invader meant; they only saw the invader transformed into a pile of mashed potatoes, which the professors then scooped into jars, packed, and carried away. It almost made one predict that the cafeteria’s mashed potatoes would see a drop in sales in the coming days.

Sonya and her group stood on the balcony of their dormitory, gazing at the Great Tower in the distance that nearly eclipsed the night sky, feeling bewildered for a moment. To be honest, although they were aware of and had witnessed the formidable power of sorcerers, because Gales was always a peaceful and happy place, the might of sorcerers had long permeated their daily lives to the point where it had become commonplace.

Controlling the weather, stopping earth tremors, regrowing limbs, accelerating the growth of crops… These miracles had even become part of the daily work for common occupations listed in the “College Graduate Employment Survey.”

When every minute and second is bathed in the glory of miracles, you naturally take it for granted.

As for the sorcerer wars and miraculous scenes in movies, despite being immensely entertaining, they always left one with a sense of unreality.

Could they really be that powerful?

Even if they were that powerful, what did it have to do with me?

However, at this moment, the apprentices at Swordflower College finally got a glimpse of the corner of a sorcerer’s majestic power.

Just moments ago, in mere minutes, a towering white tower hundreds of meters tall was erected from the ground. They watched with their own eyes as the massive Starfall Auditorium was directly covered by the White Tower, with soil and stones stacking up like building blocks, the tower’s peak reaching the starlight suspended in midair at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Not a day, not an hour, but mere minutes!

A grand structure that would take ordinary people years, or even decades to construct, was completed by sorcerers over the course of a tea break!

“Was it a legendary sorcerer who took action?” Lois murmured, “I don’t remember which legend specializes in Earth Magic…”

“Any legend from the Sanctuary is already capable of mastering various arts. Performing one’s own art through another is commonplace,” Engulite commented. “For instance, the ‘Erosion Yardang’ from the Wind Department is a miracle where a wind spirit displays the power of Earth Magic, sculpting massive structures with storms.”

“Moreover, even if it’s a legendary sorcerer who has studied multiple Magical Factions, with the power of Quadruple Wings arcane energy and spirits, they can exert a might beyond our imagination. That invader seems to be taken very seriously, with people rushing over from other schools and even the House of Nobles. For so many sorcerers gathered together, constructing a Great Tower might just be a trivial task for them.”

“I noticed the Virtual Realm Turbulence earlier!” Adelle exclaimed. “If I had reported it in time, would I be able to get a reward from the school? Like exempting me from homework and my thesis?”

“The school would reward you with a tuition-free repeat,” Lois tapped on Adelle’s forehead. “You failed two classes last semester, and if you fail two more this semester, I wonder how you’ll schedule your classes next year.”

“Don’t worry, I recently learned an amazing cheating technique; I’ll never fail a class again!”

“Are you serious? Cheating right under the professor’s nose? Are you some kind of hidden Golden Sorcerer? Are the Magical Factions ‘binge-watching’ this or what?”

“Hmph, just you wait and see.”

Speaking of which, Engulite turned to Sonya, “Sonya, how did you suddenly unleash the Silver Wings? Adding it up, you’ve been in the Virtual Realm for less than ten days!”

Lois and Adelle also sneaked glances at Sonya, their curiosity itching at them. However, their relationship with Sonya wasn’t close enough to pry into this sort of information, so they had been waiting for Engulite to broach the subject.

It was truly terrifying, after all.

Everyone knew that Sonya started training in Swordsmanship on the evening of April 12th, summoning the spirit of the Vibration Sword during her battle with Felix at the Training Hall, thus being called the ‘First Swordsmanship Genius of the Water Department.’ The very next day, she was taken on as a Research Apprentice by the well-informed Professor Trozan.

Then, she only started exploring the Virtual Realm on the evening of the 13th, and today is the 21st.

Just eight days!

Sonya went from a mere spellcasting apprentice without even a virtual wing to a fully fledged Silver Sorcerer with Silver Wings in just eight days!

This pace was frighteningly fast — remember, Rigor Carroll, who was just strutting his stuff on stage earlier, was considered a prodigy of Truth College simply for almost fully forming his Silver Wings in his sophomore year.

And Professor Nidhogg’s favorite student, the ‘Orange Dancer’ Leoni, was seen as having the makings of a Sword Saint because she unfolded her Silver Wings in her junior year!

Even the most talented young sorcerers need to spend a year or two traversing the Sea of Knowledge to condense their arcane energy, yet Sonya completed this process in eight days!

If it weren’t for the Restriction that required Magical Factions to promote to the Golden realm first, Lois even suspected that Sonya could become a Golden Sorcerer before they became Silver Sorcerers themselves.

To be honest, if a person hadn’t suddenly fallen from the starry sky, the undisputed star of tonight would have been Sonya; if it weren’t for the school declaring martial law, requiring all students to stay in their dormitories, their dormitory would have undoubtedly been trampled by countless people by now.

Condensing the Silver Wings in eight days, navigating thousands of miles across the Sea of Knowledge, how on earth did she do it?

Sonya herself was a bit frightened at this point.

She hadn’t intended to reveal her abilities so soon, but Rigor had asked a question like ‘does your condensed arcane energy have a single feather?’, and under the constraints of the Summoning Ritual, she had to summon the Silver Wings to prove herself — at that moment, Sonya absolutely wouldn’t admit to any thoughts of showing off.

Her arcane energy came naturally because in the last two days, both she and the Observer had been using the ‘Secret of the Whirlpool’ to create whirlpools.

Even though the whirlpools created this way were short-ranged and difficult to make, the Observer could find three or four Knowledge Creatures in one night. After three nights, the two of them had created several whirlpools, both unleashing their Silver Wings.

This was originally a good thing, but Sonya had become a Female Sorcerer in such a short amount of time that exposing it now seemed too frightening. Plus, she wasn’t sure if the school would covet the ‘Secret of the Whirlpool’. If it was just information, she could contribute it, and the school should reward her with some kind of treat.

But the ‘Secret of the Whirlpool’ was like a Secret Poison. The more people knew about it, the deeper they would be poisoned. Now, drinking water for Sonya felt as unpleasant as drinking spoiled water. She certainly didn’t want to share this secret and make her own drinking experience even more difficult.

“I encountered a whirlpool,” Sonya controlled the amount of truth she revealed.

Everyone suddenly understood and oh-ed in realization, not pressing her further and showing envy and jealousy on their faces.

Perhaps they thought Sonya had encountered an ultra-long-distance whirlpool, and that’s how she suddenly condensed her Silver Wings. They didn’t consider the possibility that Sonya had encountered multiple whirlpools—who would guess someone could win the jackpot multiple times in a row?

Bang!

Suddenly, a sound like a mirror shattering came from the starry sky. Everyone looked up to see a woman in a deep blue robe flying towards the Great Tower. Then, a booming sound came from the tower, and even a circle of rainbow ripples blossomed—a Battle was taking place!

“Was that Female Sorcerer who just flew towards the Great Tower… the Church’s Saintess?” Adelle exclaimed in surprise. “I think I saw her last year at the grand festival…”

“Do you believe in the Church, Adelle?” Lois asked.

“No, but as a Noble in Gales, you definitely have to attend various festivals and ceremonies,” Adelle said, watching the top of the Great Tower emitting a decayed halo. “Nothing seemed to happen just now… Did the Church’s Saintess get into a fight with another Professor?”

The others couldn’t get a word in; they knew even less about the Church than Adelle. In the Stars Kingdom, the Church was a paradoxical entity. On one hand, it was undoubtedly the sole state religion, with no other faith present, responsible for presiding over various festival activities, and even the crowning of the empress had to be sanctioned by the Pope.

But at the same time, the Church was very low-key, with almost no Preaching activities, and even cultural works about the Church like dramas or operas were scarce. Followers were almost non-existent.

Even these female college students only knew that the Church worshipped the Stars Sovereign, but they had forgotten the full name of the Church.

Was it the Stars Church or the Celestial Church?

“It’s time to take a bath,” Adelle yawned.

Sonya suddenly remembered something, checked her Miracle Bracelet, and found it was already 11:30 PM!

In the past, she had to enter the Virtual Realm by 11 PM!

Without bothering to remove her makeup or take a bath, Sonya lay down on the bed, Searching for the Gate of Truth within the spirit of her Vibration Sword—tonight, the entire school was under martial law, so naturally, she couldn’t go to the Meditation Tower. But now that she was an official Silver Sorcerer, even without the aid of the Meditation Tower, she could easily find the Gate of Truth!

Closing her eyes… the Gate of Truth… sinking into consciousness… entering the Virtual Realm!

The usual steps to enter, but before Sonya opened her eyes, she felt the cold seawater surrounding her—it was disgusting, like being mockingly watched by others while studying at home as a child.

Opening her eyes, Sonya did not see the familiar Boat and the familiar strangers. Instead, what filled her vision was the eternal white mist and the profound, pitch-black Sea of Knowledge.

Looking around, she stood alone, the silence around her so intense it was frightening. Ignoring the feeling of disgust, Sonya swam around, but the scenery within her pupils remained unchanged.

A wave of indescribable panic began to wash over Sonya’s heart.

“Observer?” she called out tentatively.
