Chapter 696 Dis
Eisen looked at what was in front of him and saw the town Dis in the distance. He was currently drying himself off after washing the river styx off of him and every small nook that it reached into. The old man took a deep breath, and luckily wasn’t able to smell anymore on his own body. There was still the lingering scent of the nearby styx, but at the very least he didn’t have this smell constantly inside of his nose anymore.
It seemed like there was still a little bit of the styx-taste in his mouth, but Eisen figured he could get rid of that with a little bit of booze. So, he quickly took out a large bottle filled with high-percentage alcohol and quickly took a sip of it. It seemed like the burn of the alcohol singed away some of the taste that was leftover in his mouth, meaning that it was luckily working pretty well.
"Heh, you know how to party, old man." Satel said with a broad grin on their face before extending their hand toward Eisen. While rolling his eyes, Eisen handed the bottle to the Devil as the two of them started walking toward Dis, where the God Wrath was waiting for them.
Satel took a sip of the Whiskey, and immediately pulled their eyes open wide and stared at Eisen, "Y-Yo, where the fuck did you get this? It’s really fucking good!" Satel exclaimed, and Eisen looked at them as he took the bottle back and took another sip himself, "I made it a while ago. It was artificially aged by Jyuuk, so it’s not really completely natural. It’s still pretty good, though."
"Just p-pretty good? That’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever had! I heard that the booze in your country was supposedly the best around, but I didn’t think you were still able to make stuff like this even without memories!" Satel exclaimed, and Eisen looked at them with a soft smile.
"In the other world, I made my money by brewing this sort of alcohol. I was able to make use of production methods that were created over the centuries, recipes, and so on, with tools that none of you ever had access to. And that was just because Samuel restricted the amount of things that I was allowed to show to others, while halting the progress that other people were making in these areas. The only ones that were allowed to make use of things we learned from the other world without limit were us five that peaked. Hence, I was able to create this alcohol and distribute it to a few places as presents under the guise of it being a product that ’only a man like me can create’." The old man explained to Satel, who listened to Eisen’s word with surprising attention.
To Eisen, it seemed like not only the angels hadn’t been informed of any of these things. It was just that, as a Devil, it was easier for Satel to accept these things as it was for Ambriel, for example. Of course, Ambriel was still an extreme case, but that was beside the point. At the end of the day, Eisen came along trying to shake up all the things that they thought to be true. And for Satel, it seemed to be easier to accept it than it would be for others.
Satel didn’t seem like the kind of being that was rather ’loyal’ to anything or anyone in the slightest. That included both divine beings and concepts, of course. And due to that lack of loyalty toward one specific concept or idea, it was relatively easy to accept other things as the truth. Or at least, a potential truth.
But even then, since they had never heard about this stuff from the side of one of the people that were directly involved, even Satel seemed to have to think about it for a while, even if they had this uncaring attitude to them.
Although, since this created a rather uncomfortable and awkward air around them, Eisen offered more of the alcohol he had to Satel. The Devil drank a bit more, and the two of them continued to make their way toward Dis.
Soon, they stood in front of the large gate that was the entrance to the town behind these enormous walls. There were a few rather vicious devils standing right in front of it, garding it with pure lethargy, as if they didn’t care about it in the slightest. At least, until Eisen got there.
As if they were so bored that they were literally waiting for anyone or anything to beat up, they immediately propped up their heads and became excited, approaching the old man immediately, "Lookie, lookie, a dumbass soul that chose to crawl out of the Styx, eh?" One of the two Guard-Devils asked, and Eisen looked at him while immediately shaking his head.
"Of course not. I think it should be rather obvious that I’m still alive." Eisen pointed out, but the other Devil just shook their head again, "How sad, how sad, it thinks its still alive... Want to show it that it’s not?"
"Good idea, good idea!" The other devil exclaimed once again, just before immediately being shut down by Satel.
"Yo, Humpty and Dumpty, shut the fuck up before I rip your asses open. This guy’s alive, not to mention a personal guest of Lord Wrath. So let us through before we catch your guys’ stupidity." Satel told them, and the two Guard-Devils looked at each other for a moment.
"...Humpty Dumpty..?"
"...Dumpty Humpty..?"
With a loud groan, Satel tried to step past them, but was immediately stopped by one of the two Guard-Devils, "No, no. You won’t go through."
"You’re lying, you’re lying. We know. No way a living man comes down here." The two of them said in turn to one another as one of them grabbed onto Satel’s collar.
But of course, there was someone else here right now that the two of them were completely ignoring for some reason. And that ’someone’ took out his pitch-black demonic greatsword and swung it down at the arm that was holding onto Satel, cleanly cutting through it without much resistance.
"Didn’t you hear him? I’m alive, you dimwits, and a guest to your literal god. So let us through before I take another one of your arms. You hear?" Eisen told the Guard-Devil, both of which started angrily grinding their teeth together at the sight of the arm that just fell to the ground. The Devil picked it up and simply re-attached it, as if its body was that of a toy that had simply fallen apart.
"Man make me angr-" Of course, while the two Guard-Devils were staring at each other angrily, Eisen approached the gate and simply pushed it open.
Beyond it, he could see the inside of the castle’s throne-room instead of the town of this city of Dis. Staring through the hall was Wrath, glaring at the two Devils that were about to attack his guest. Immediately, the two Devils fell to their knees in fear of their Lord, and even Satel slightly bowed their head for a moment. Satel wasn’t a believer of Wrath, they simply knew that if they were directly disrespectful toward any of the gods, they may or may not be dead before they were able to blink the next time around. So until now, Satel usually always stayed quiet and respectful toward the Gods whenever they were around.
Meanwhile, Eisen was focused on something else, and that was the fact that his sword seemed to be rather excited at the ’taste’ of Devil-Blood. Eisen found this to be quite intriguing, since it hadn’t reacted like this at all for a while now. The last time that it reacted like this was when it was leveling up within the higher levels of its former rank, as if becoming happy about it.
And since it seemed like the sword was somewhat pulling toward the Devils again, Eisen figured that the blade took some sort of liking to the blood of Devils. That sounded slightly concerning, but Eisen didn’t really mind it as long as the sword was happy and didn’t cause him any trouble.
The old man stepped further into the hall in front of him while the sword tried to keep dragging him backward, until Eisen couldn’t take it anymore and just put the sword back into his Soul Storage.
"Sorry for those fuckwads out there. I’ll discipline them later." The God of this Circle of hell, Wrath, said with a glare directed at the two Devils that knew they were most likely going to die rather soon after Eisen left.
The old man let out a slight sigh as he shook his head, "I honestly don’t care as long as they stop being so annoying." He pointed out, and Wrath slightly raised his brows, "You’re a lot more boring than I remember."
"Well, that’s cause I don’t remember." Eisen said, "I lost my memories, if you’re not aware."
"Eh? That was real? You actually lost your experience? What kind of asshole piece of garbage would do that to you?!" Wrath asked. Eisen let out a deep sigh and quickly pointed at his own face, "This one. The others that peaked also gave up their experience to create the Artificials that are roaming around in the mortal realm. You didn’t notice a stronger influx of souls lately? Those guys must be going around slaughtering all those monsters without hesitation."
"Hm, that’s true... There’ve been a couple more down here... But I thought there was a wildfire or some shit. Not that I care, honestly. But I haven’t been keeping up with shit lately. Everything new I find out just pisses me off so fucking much, you won’t even believe it." The God explained. Eisen looked back with a shrug, "You’d be surprised, honestly. In the other world, trying to keep up with worldwide news isn’t that fun all the time either."
"...Ain’t that other world some kinda utopia? That’s what the Administrator tol-"
"Don’t say that name in front of me again or I’ll cut your throat open." Eisen interrupted Wrath, who just looked back with a wry smile. Eisen rubbed the bridge of his nose and then shook his head, "Sorry, that guy’s the one topic that I can’t help but get heated over. But either way, trust me, the other world is anything but a utopia. War, wildfires, climate change, racism... There’s a lot of stuff going on over there at any given time, really."
"...Doesn’t really sound that nice."
"It is not." Eisen said immediately, "But let’s not talk about that."
