508 Swindling the former Marshal

Zi Han pretended not to care before walking over to the table his hands caressing the case his fingertips tingling like he was touching the trophy after winning the rugby world cup. So precious and priceless.

He maintained a stern expression as he took out the lower part of the Barrett caliber rifle and placed it on the table. His slender fingers pulled the take down pins his actions obvious. He was going to assemble it.

Yi Zhen what to interrupt him but seeing how fast his hands were moving he was suddenly a little interested. Zi Han took out the top half his heart pounding hard against his chest. If marrying Yi Chen was the first goal in his life then messing with old earth firearms was the second goal. His fingers were almost trembling with excitement.

He pulled the barrel all the way out extending to its limit. After that, he pulled the barrel key back and pushed down on it making sure it was secure.

Done with the top half he turned it over and carefully laid it on top of the lower half. His eyes glistened as he pulled the bolt back and the upper part fitted in like a puzzle piece with the lower part.

He put back the pins and with the grip of the rifle resting in the croak of his arm he pulled it up and inserted a magazine. With an intimidating clicking sound he pulled the bolt back before setting it down on the table.

No one could tell from the look on his face that he was excited. The adrenaline coursing through his veins was unprecedented. He wanted to take this home so he and his mum could play thus he decided to swindle the former Marshal out of an antique.

He rubbed his chin lightly ignoring the looks of astonishment around him. Doctor Kiet was thinking this little cutie is dangerous while Yi Feng was thinking where did he know how to do that? Yi Zhen was thinking if it would be rude to take on Zi Han as a disciple. Of course, he knew that was impossible. Not only his son but also Zi Xingxi would tear him apart. No one would trust him with Zi Han. He had already burnt that bridge to ash before he could even cross it.

“I will talk to you in exchange for it. Is that okay with you?” said Zi Han folding his hands across his chest with a serious expression on as though negotiating a huge business deal.

.....

Yi Zhen, “...”

“No... we don’t have a deal,” said Yi Zhen, and Zi Han casually replied, “Okay,” while shrugging his shoulders. He sat back down with his back leaning lazily into his seat.

Seeing how he was acting all nonchalant Yi Zhen rubbed his forehead in frustration. This Barrett caliber wasn’t cheap. It cost him an arm and a leg at the auction. When he got it he was so afraid to tell his wife that he hid it from her for a month until she started looking through their expenditure.

She was wealthy and the second wealthiest woman in Onyx Federation but she was strict with the finances. That day she waited for him to come back home in the dark with a glass of wine pinched in between her fingers her face illuminated by a dim standing lamp.

When he entered the house he was so startled that he almost screamed. Yes, a grown man who had faced off with a hundred interstellar pirates with one mech was afraid of his wife at that point in time. After that, he was in the dog house for however long he hid it from her. After all that suffering, his son’s boyfriend simply wanted to swindle it from him just for a moment of his time.

Fine, for the sake of future happiness, he would give it away. Maybe his wife will be more forgiving now that he was making peace with Zi Han.

“Fine, you can have it but this deal includes getting an audience with your father,” he said before turning to leave.

“Okay, but wait. I need to pack away my new baby,” he said no longer concealing his happiness. His expression changed faster than a face-changing performer in a Sichuan opera. He disassembled it right in front of them and packed it away carefully before closing the case.

“Let’s go,” he said to the former Marshal before waving at the two.

“I would love to stay longer and learn from you but I know that you are a very busy man doctor,” said Zi Han before rushing out and closing the door for them by waving his hand lightly on the display panel.

When he walked out holding a case following behind the former Marshal, the team leader’s lips fell. His eyes dimmed having suddenly realised something. What mere mortals could see wasn’t necessarily what was happening beneath the surface. There were a lot of pieces being moved underneath the table that was far different from what was happening on the surface. He was suddenly terrified though he didn’t show it on his face.

Yi Zhen paused his steps in front of the security team leader and without looking in his direction he said, “Commander... since you have offended Mr. Zi over here, I would ask you to apologise to him while we are here.”

The security team leader gulped with cold sweat dripping down his back and armpits his complexion unsightly. He was just doing his duty which was protecting the Marshal so why should he apologise? Though he thought he was right he knew he couldn’t go against the former Marshal’s order thus he gritted his teeth before apologising while trying to look as sincere as possible.

His back straight he didn’t even look at Zi Han as he issued a standard apology. “My apologies for offending you sir,” he said and Zi Han who was holding his case walked over to him and said,

“Apologise to Little Nim Nim too... I mean you also kicked his incense stick away. He doesn’t look happy at all,” said Zi Han with a smug look on his face.
