"Idiot!" Barak insulted his dense brother as the two of them fled from the attacks of over a dozen D rank demonic beasts. All the beasts were of the Peak of the D rank, so fighting back was something rather difficult at this time. The both of them had sustained injuries of varying degrees after being entangled in a fight with their Demon counterparts for an extended period of time.
"Don't call me an idiot! It wasn't my fault that they found us!" Balak retorted as he evaded a bolt of orange lightning that had been cast by a flying creature.
Barak grunted but did not say anything. It truly wasn't his brother's fault that they had been found out. After all, who would have expected a Blood Bat, one of the expert tracking demonic beasts at the lower ranks, to have been set on their tail after they had destroyed a couple of camps now.
The two of them kept on running until they arrived at a cliff.
Shuaaa!
The sound of rushing water was loud in their ears as they peered down the cliff.
"Damn it! We're cornered!" Balak cursed. He looked down at the rushing river that had been dubbed as Black River, thanks to the water that flowed through it. The water was colored a dark shade after having Unholy energy run through it for so many years. It had gotten better to a certain extent in the past months, but there was little that a few months could do in the face of several years, especially when the remedies had been applied in a manner that was not direct.
Leon's Priest summons had gone around to cleanse certain areas of the Desolate Lands for some time before the war began, but they had too little time to do anything effective before they had to turn their efforts back to the war that bore down on their heads.
At that time, the demonic beasts that were chasing them finally appeared. From the dense forest with frozen trees, the beasts of various shapes and sizes emerged, sizing up their prey.
"We gotta jump." Balak said and grabbed his brother's hand.
"We have to fight!" Barak tried to pull his hand free, but at that moment, a spear of fire struck down from the sky, followed by a condensed orb of golden flames.
BOOM!
The ground shook badly, and the edge of the cliff where the two young Demons were standing broke off, sending them spiraling down.
Whoosh!
A black shadow dashed down and snatched the two boys just meters above the rushing river's surface before flying back up and dropping them down unceremoniously on the ground at the edge of the cliff. They quickly jumped to their feet as their eyes finally registered Mica and Lance.
The dragon breathed out golden flames that instantly turned the demonic beasts into ash, while turning their life force into experience that would further boost his growth. Lance sat atop Mica's back like a valiant dragon knight that had come to the rescue of his comrades.
"We had it under control!" Not willing to lose face, Barak suddenly growled and stepped forward. His twisted his arms together and created a red fireball before hurling it at one of the demonic beasts that had been injured by Mica, but not yet killed. It instantly received fatal wounds, which it succumbed to and died.
"Under control from where? The river?" Lance scoffed as he jumped off Mica's back.
"Shut up!" Balak backed up his twin brother.
"Quiet, you three!" Mica suddenly snapped at them. By now, the last of the Demonic Beasts had been killed by him, but he still had a rather tense expression on his face.
"What's wrong?" Lance instantly noticed the problem and asked.
"Someone's coming. Someone strong." Mica said as he squared up his body to project a larger image in the eyes of whoever was going to emerge.
Crunch!
The twigs that had been defrosted in the distance from Mica's golden scorching flames cracked and broke under the weight of a person. A shadow also formed in the distance under the dim light of the evening.
A horned Demon stepped out of the cover of the trees. Behind him, six weaker Demons also made themselves known. The horned Demon at the front was wearing red armor and had pitch black eyes that seemed to suck in the souls of all he considered his enemies.
"I finally found you. You have caused us a lot of trouble." The Demon at the lead said. His voice was deep and thrummed deep within Lance's chest. His eyes trembled slightly as he realized that this was not a foe he could fight.
"Who are you?" Lance asked after a moment.
"I am the son of High General Aurelius Gangar, Dreyfus Gangar. You must be Lance, the missing son of High General Ashtar. What a shame, you have let down the name of all Demons. You deserve to be beheaded, and have your head pinned on a stake in the Capital of the Empire." Dreyfus declared as he pulled out a bastard sword that had been customized with skulls and other flourishes to add to its visual flare.
"Grrr... Don't run your mouth here, filth!" Mica stepped forward and spread his wings, catching Dreyfus' attention.
"You must be the one who wiped out so many camps. The signs are still there. I guess I can take care of you before handling the rest." Dreyfus' tone was dripping with arrogance and disrespect for his opponents. He believed that he was truly superior to Mica, and believed it would only be a while before he took care of Mica and then ended Lance's life. It would earn him accolades and recognition when his deeds were reported back home.
While there was a chance of him running afoul of High General Ashtar, he did not care much, as his father was also a High General.
"Let's fight!" The man said and dashed forward.
