Six days. It had been six days since Kris and Kevin looked for Blue on the remote island that was previously occupied by Kris's father. During that period, there wasn't any progress for the search of Blue.
Kris had tried to look for the girl in several places without Kevin, but still no result. He also looked for other werewolves, but they all seemed to disappear without leaving a trace. It seemed that all the werewolves were currently gathered together in an unknown place.
At first, Kris wasn't too worried about Blue's disappearance. He thought he could quickly find her and take her away to hide for a while. But, it turned out that his guess was wrong, it turned out that his father had a more mature plan and he had to raise a white flag because he had indeed lost his strategy.
It looked like he couldn't underestimate the old man too much. His father was like a pilot who had a more flight hours than him. He had to be more vigilant so he could beat his father.
It was 7 PM, and Kris was at Kevin's house alone. Ah, that scientist. The innocent scientist had been avoiding him on purpose the past six days. The cause? Kris had no clue about that.
The black-haired man started ignoring him since they went back from the island. At first, Kevin just reduced the intensity of their communication, but then he started to ignore his presence as well.
Kevin spent most of his time in the laboratory. They were still talking, but not so often. Kris eventually asked some questions to the scientist, but the latter just answered him curtly. Sometimes, he didn't even give him a verbal answer.
It was quite frustrating, but Kris didn't plan on giving Kevin more pressure. He was just going to leave the scientist alone until he was ready to talk with him.
At this moment, Kris was sitting on the living room sofa. He lazily stared at the aquarium where Kevin's five goldfish were living happily. His everyday activity was just doing the house chores, watching TV, and also feeding the fish. Once he finished doing all that, he became jobless and just patiently wait for Kevin to come home. He looked like a wife now.
He was doing nothing for a long time, and fortunately, his cellphone suddenly rang, and that was enough to interrupt his idle time. Quickly, his burly hands grabbed the thin object lying on the table, then looked at the screen to see who was calling him.
His brown eyes widened a little when he saw the name on the screen. His heart skipped a beat as he hurriedly got up from the sofa and walked towards the back door of Kevin's house. He opened the wooden door, then walked towards the large courtyard of the house. After arriving at a relatively dark place, Kris immediately answered his phone call.
"Hello?" Kris greeted someone on the other end of the phone.
"Where are you, Kris?" A woman's voice was heard on the other end of the line.
"I'm at Kevin's house. Is there any progress regarding the search for Blue?" Kris asked.
There was a long pause because the woman did not immediately answer Kris's question. After a long silence, the woman finally answered, "I think I know the place where they took Blue."
Kris's face, which was cold just a moment ago, now turned bright and excited. "Where is Blue now? I will go straight there to save her," the young man said excitedly.
"This is the reason why I'm reluctant to tell you, Kris," the woman spoke again after sighing. "I know you will hurry over there right away, but I won't let you do that. It's too dangerous," added the woman.
"What? Why can't I go there? Blue is in danger if we don't help her right away," Kris said in disbelief.
"But, you are alone while they have a big member. I won't let you go there," the woman was completely unfazed by Kris's words.
Kris sighed loudly, then said with a hint of anger, "Blue is alone there too! When that day comes, she will be in danger!"
"Blue has power, she can protect herself," the woman continued to cling to her stance. "I called you just to say that you don't have to worry about Blue's condition, not to argue with you," the woman continued.
Hearing those words, Kris became even more frustrated. "How can I not worry when Blue's condition that isn't clear out there? What exactly is Blue's power so I don't have to worry about her condition?" Asked the werewolf.
"For now, you don't need to know what Blue's power is. Even so, I can guarantee that she will come back to us safely," the woman replied.
"Come back to us safely? But, what if Blue chose to be on their side in the end?" Kris asked again in frustration.
He did not hear any answer from the woman for a few moments. Several minutes passed until the woman finally said, "I believe in Blue, and you should do the same." Before finally, she ended their call without saying goodbye.
Kris took his cellphone away from his ear and stowed it in his trouser pocket. He then rubbed his face roughly with a frustrated groan.
"Kris?"
The voice coming from behind him made the werewolf flinch in surprise. Wait, how could he be shocked by someone's presence?
There were only two possibilities when he failed to detect someone's presence. First, he usually failed to detect someone's presence when he was in a weak condition, for example when he just fought and drained his energy. Second, he couldn't sense someone's presence if the 'someone' was more powerful than him.
The young man felt strange, but he still turned around and found Kevin standing not far from him. Since when was the scientist standing there? And, why did Kris not aware of his presence?
Kris was somewhat puzzled because of that, but it turned out that Kevin made him even more confused when the human spoke again.
"Did you just talk to the head of the orphanage, Kris?"
Inevitably, the unexpected question made Kris's heart almost fall off.
"W-what do you mean, Kev?" Kris finally stuttered back a little.
"Your conversation on the phone just now," Kevin answered. "You talked to Mother Monica, right? I can hear her voice."
Kevin's answer surprised Kris even more. 'Was the volume so loud that Kevin could hear the person who was calling me? Did I accidentally turn on the loudspeaker?' He couldn't help but wonder.
"Ah, yes," Kris finally answered with a nervous smile. "Mrs. Nierling called me earlier to ask about the progress of the search for Blue," he continued.
But, that answer didn't make Kevin feel satisfied. The man looked at Kris suspiciously. "Didn't Mother Monica tell you earlier that she already knew where Blue was?"
The question was like a thunderbolt that hit Kris's head hard. He gulped nervously before he asked, "You… how did you hear our conversation? How could you hear the words Mrs. Nierling said on the phone?"
This time, it was Kevin who seemed surprised to hear Kris's question. "You are right," he mumbled. "How could I hear her voice clearly when she was talking with you on phone?" He asked himself with a confused expression.
Kris was also confused by this, and he also didn't have the answer to the scientist's question. It was a new experience for him, and he didn't have any clue to enlighten himself.
Finally, the werewolf chose to walk closer to the young man and pulled his hand, leading the scientist back into the house.
They arrived at the living room, and he sat Kevin down on one of the sofas. His heart was in turmoil, but he put on his facade to show Kevin that nothing was wrong with him.
"Wait here, I will get you a drink."
Kris was just about to leave, but Kevin held his wrist. "Kris, who am I? Why do I suddenly have abilities that I never had before?" The man asked without looking at the other person. His gloomy eyes stared at the cold marble floor.
Kevin's body started trembling, and the werewolf could see the drastic change. His heart couldn't bear to see Kevin's weak condition.
Kris sighed, then he knelt in front of Kevin. He held Kevin's cold hands and said, "I also don't know what abilities you have, Kev. I was also very shocked earlier. I couldn't sense your presence at all, and that was unusual. And, I was even more surprised that you could hear Mrs. Nierling's voice on the phone."
Kevin looked into Kris's eyes intently as he tried to find what the werewolf was hiding. Kris didn't avoid the gaze and he bravely returned the intense stare. He had nothing to hide, and he also had nothing to be afraid of.
Kevin looked even gloomier when he finally asked, "Am I the same as Blue?"
