Chapter 164: Your death is here, dear husband
Chapter – 164
“Hey, did you notice something different about Alex today?” Munching on her chips from the bowl in front of her, Veronica asked Rebecca, who was busy making her bed. She has been feeling unsettled ever since Alex heaped praises upon her during dinner.
“Don’t even get me started. If not for the crowd in front of me, I would have crushed some balls today,” Rebecca got hold of the pillow and tried to squeeze it hard, “Aahh... Look, it’s still red,” Rebecca tried to show Veronica her hurt wrist, but Veronica was not interested.
“Do you think he has a thing for me?” Veronica suddenly popped the question taking even Rebecca by surprise.
“Wha... Why would you even think so?” Rebecca asked. She may not know much about Alex, but she knew that he had a girlfriend, and from the way she could bring a smile to his sulking face with nothing but a text, he really liked her a lot.
“I don’t know. It’s just that the way he looked at me was different,” Veronica lay on the bed with the support of her stomach and looked at Rebecca sitting in the corner, “Every other time we met, I could see irritation or helplessness on his face, and to be honest I enjoyed that. But today, there was something else.”
“What?” Rebecca did not really believe her, but she indulged him whatsoever.
.....
“There was admiration on his face for me,” Veronica looked at Rebecca in utter disbelief, “You may not believe me, but it was there.”
“So what does that have got to do with him liking you? He might have heard something nice about you from someone, or maybe he was faking it in front of everyone,” Rebecca did not get what Veronica was implying, “You must know about faking it better than anyone else. You have been doing it for so long.”
“If he was faking it, then there is no problem. But if he was not, then I won’t be able to forgive myself,” Veronica buried her face between her palms in frustration.
“Why? I get it... He might be annoying sometimes, but overall, he is not that bad of a guy. And if it’s you, you can easily make him dance to your tunes. So, why don’t you give it a try?” Rebecca asked. For her, it was turning into a nice episode. A really nice love triangle. The evil manipulating bitch, trying to pull apart a lovey-dovey couple.
‘Sorry, Veronica. You can only be the evil third party,’ Rebecca was lost in her own storyline.
“It’s not that he is a bad guy. He has got everything in his favour if he wants to pursue me,” Rebecca shook her head, “And I might not even play it that hard to get, but if I did that, I won’t be able to face Jessica.” Veronica explained herself.
“That’s true,” Rebecca nodded but soon, her eyes almost popped out of the sockets, “What do you mean? What’s that got to do anything with my sister?”
“You don’t know?” Veronica looked at Rebecca as if she was she was stating a world known fact. She grabbed the pillow from Rebecca and placed it beneath her, “Jessica has hots for Alex.” Jessica whispered.
“No, she doesn’t,” it was an impulsive response from Rebecca, “What made you think so?”
“... You should know better than anyone whom she likes,” Rebecca said, almost implying something, “And because of that dog and that bitch she would never ever trust a man, let alone actually like him. Daniel is the only exception, and that’s also because of our families and that we have known each other for way too long.” Rebecca brushed away Veronica’s words in seconds.
“... Where do you even get these thoughts?” Rebecca laughed at Veronica, but the expression on Veronica’s face was still the same.
When Rebecca saw Veronica still looking at her the same way as before, she couldn’t help but doubt, “What?”
“You really don’t know nothing,” in fact, Veronica smiled as she said that.
Veronica grabbed Rebecca by her arm and pulled her towards herself. As their faces were close enough, Veronica whispered, “Something... Something happened between your sister and Alex in Ullu.”
“What happened?” Rebecca asked with a frown on her forehead.
“That I don’t know, “Veronica said, but when she saw Rebecca was about to say something, she hurriedly explained, “Your sister could not be found for the entire evening, and she didn’t even turn up that night. She got back to her room early in the morning.” Veronica told Rebecca.
“So what? Maybe she was out drinking or gambling,” Rebecca reasoned.
“Believe me when I say it, it has got something to do with that guy Alex,” Veronica, on the other hand, still persisted.
“But he has a girlfriend,” Rebecca finally let it out.
“And do you know who it is?” Veronica was a bit surprised by the revelation, but she was ready with her counterquestion.
“No... I don’t, but...”
“What’s topping that girl from being Jessica?” Veronica asked, but she had mixed emotions churning inside of her now. On one hand, she was glad that she was not getting in between her friend and the guy she likes while, on the other hand, her heart wouldn’t stop sighing thinking about Alex.
“But he said her girlfriend lived in his neighbourhood,” Rebecca pointed out, hoping for that one chance that she could prove Veronica otherwise.
“And what are the chances that he was not lying to you?” Veronica asked.
“So you are saying...”
“I believe so...”

*Buz...
“Hello,” Audrey answered as soon as her phone vibrated.
“At least let it ring once,” Turtle laughed as he sat in front of a bunch of screens.
“Get to the point,” meanwhile, Audrey was not in the mood to joke around.
“Hey... Hey... Calm down. Since I am already helping you out, I won’t leave you hanging,” Turtle said, “I got that photo from someone doing reconnaissance before hitting a target. So I looked around and found a bunch of them floating around on the internet,” Turtle told Audrey.
“What do you mean on the internet?” Audrey was confused.
“I mean what I just said,” Turtle confirmed, “Whatever he is up to, he is not hiding anymore.” And before Audrey could ask any more questions, he continued.
“... We got this request for assassination not long back. It got a lot of attention in the organisation because it was a lot of money for practically a nobody. Someone must have really hated that girl.” Turtle started to give a brief overview.
“Who was she?” Audrey could not help but interrupt.
“A nobody with a decent enough background. Her name is Jessica from Elenor, but that’s not the point,” Turtle quickly said.
“You see her company got pulled up in a prank or something, and there was a lot of legal shit they had to settle, but that’s not the point either,” Turtle said.
“So, will you get to the point anytime today?” Audrey was starting to lose her patience.
“He is working for that girl, well was working for that girl,” Turtle finally got to the point, “And he is called Alex Rutherford. Ummm... that’s a decent enough name.”
“Alex...” Audrey repeated.
After that, Turtle told Audrey everything he could pull up on Alex, From his medical records, his adoption certificate, to his tweets about Ronaldo, everything. But there was no mention of his memory loss in the medical records, and since he got hold of them, Turtle did not think anything was wrong with them.
Turtle also dig around George and Martha, and they turned out pretty simple and ordinary. A really nice couple.
“He has also been involved with...” Turtle hesitated a bit.
“Involved with whom?” Audrey raised her eyebrows, hearing the guy.
“With... With two girls,” Turtle had to tell her. If she were to find out from somewhere else, she would roast him alive, no pun intended.
“Who are they?” There was no change in her tone as Audrey asked.
“Well, one of them is a gold digger. I don’t know why he would get involved with her, but she is not a nice character. Her name is Susan” Turtle started with the bad character, Susan.
“And the other,” Audrey asked, not visibly concerned about Susan.
“The other is the bounty herself, Jessica,” Turtle revealed, “I don’t know much about it more for now, but they were recently on a trip to Ullu.”
“Hahaha...” Unexpectedly Audrey laughed, making Turtle confused.
“Are you okay?” Turtle thought she had lost it. But instead of replying to him, Audrey continued to laugh. After she had her fill with laughter, she calmed down and spoke.
“Where is he now?”
“Well, he lives in Elenor itself, but he not there right now,” Turtle said, “Yesterday he took a flight to Thar. He is there on some company business.”
“Send me the location,” Audrey said and ended the call.
Soon her phone buzzed, and there were some coordinates there.
“Your death is coming, dear husband,” Audrey stared at her phone and an evil smirk appeared on her face.
