Chapter 44: Pearls (2)

These ordinary people often worked hard for an entire day and did not necessarily earn much money. Sometimes, in order to successfully sell these sea goods, they had to beg. Even so, their lives still did not improve much.

Listening to Mo Yang’s narration, they watched the old man in front of them stand up shakily and walk towards the corner of the street. Mo Chu’s heart trembled as she followed behind him. Naturally, Mo Yang followed closely behind him.

After turning two corners, he saw a small river in front of her. The old man was sitting by the river with his head lowered. He was holding the goods in the basket tightly in his hands.

“Grandpa, what are these?” Mo Chu walked forward. When he got closer, she realized that the old man was really suffering. His pair of large rough hands were already covered with calluses. The wrinkles seemed to have been carved into the corners of his eyes, and they could not be erased no matter how hard he tried.

When he heard the voice, the old man raised his head in panic. When he saw that it was a weak girl in front of him, he gradually relaxed and caressed the basket lovingly. “These are all sea goods. They were fished out from the sea.”

“They’re really beautiful!” Mo Chu’s words were not empty compliments. There were quite a lot of sea goods in the basket. The colors were bright, and the shapes were different. It was quite interesting.

When he heard this, the old man seemed to have found a confidant. He immediately said, “Exactly. Look, there are beads hidden in these algae!”

There are beads hidden in the algae? When Mo Chu heard this, she could not help but think of the pearls in the clamshell.

Could it be that these beads were pearls?

When she thought of this, she was even more excited. If they were really pearls, the value of these things might be doubled. By then, the old man’s life would naturally be much better. “Grandpa, can I have a look?”

Hearing this, the old man did not waste any time. He immediately picked out some algae from the basket and gently peeled the bottom of it. With a slight squeeze, he took out a few beads.

Mo Chu took a closer look and could not help but be disappointed. These beads were of different shapes and colors. They were completely different from the pearls in her memory. Moreover, there was not a single bit of brilliance on these beads, and nor were they edible.

Mo Chu felt as if she was doused with cold water. Her small face became slightly dispirited.

However, the old man could not stand her listless look. He casually took a few pearls and smiled as he stuffed them into Mo Chu’s hands. “Come, little girl, take them and play with them. I’ll treat this as a gift to you. It’s not worth much anyway.”

“No need.” Mo Chu hurriedly declined. The old man needed to sell these to make a living, so how could she take them?

However, she did not expect the Blood Luminescent Beast in her arms to be a prankster. When he saw the beads that the old man stuffed into Mo Chu’s hands, his eyes lit up. He took the beads and swallowed them all!

“Roundy!” This glutton actually swallowed the all of beads?

Mo Chu was worried and amused at the same time. She quickly lifted the Blood Luminescent Beast upside down and patted its belly with all her strength. “Hurry up and spit it out!”

Mo Chu’s actions were not gentle at all. The Roundy glared at her a few times, but in the end, it obediently spat out the beads.

After counting a few times and seeing that there was not a single one missing, Mo Chu finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Good Heavens! Raising a pet was just like pleasing a Lord. Mo Chu smiled and shook her head.

However, she noticed that one of the beads had been bitten open by the Blood Luminescent Beast’s sharp teeth. Fine white powder leaked out from the tiny cracks, forming a flickering, faint white halo.

Seeing this, Mo Chu’s eyes could not help but light up!
