Chapter 91: Can’t Remember
Aunt Zhang quickly slipped away to make room for the two of them.
Li Jingran freed his hands and scooped up a spoonful of soup. He put it to his lips to cool them down. Then, he pulled the back of Xu Wanwan’s head with his other hand and carefully fed the soup from the bowl.
He fed her the soup spoonful by spoonful without the slightest bit of impatience until the bottom of the bowl was empty. He stared at the girl and sighed softly.
After a few hours, Xu Wanwan did not feel comfortable sleeping on the man’s leg. She wanted to find a comfortable position. However, her hand landed on the man’s vital parts.
Li Jingran immediately opened his eyes, looked down at the girl’s hand, and pushed it away with a sullen face.
Xu Wanwan was afraid again and quickly grabbed onto him. “Don’t go…”
Li Jingran sighed again. He calmed himself down, feeling tortured by the girl until he lost his temper.
“I’ll bring you back to your room to sleep.”
After saying that, he carried her to the second floor and placed her on his bed.
Throughout the whole process, Xu Wanwan did not let go of him and kept holding onto him. Li Jingran had no choice but to lie down beside her.
However, he could not sleep that night.
Xu Wanwan did not wake up again and slept until the next afternoon.
When she woke up, she was hugging Li Jingran’s pillow. After reacting for a few seconds, she slowly sat up and looked around her surroundings. She was shocked.
Why was she in Li Jingran’s room?!
Her head hurt a little. She carefully tried recalling what happened yesterday, but she only remembered drinking a lot with Lin Jianan. She could not remember what happened after that…
Holding the blanket in her hand, Xu Wanwan thought of a dream she had last night.
She dreamed that she had obtained a peerless treasure. Her mission was to protect this treasure, so she had to hold it tightly in her hand and not let go for a moment.
But when she woke up, she was hugging a pillow.
What kind of treasure was this?
Xu Wanwan rubbed her aching temples and pushed away the blanket. When she saw that she was dressed well in her clothes, she heaved a sigh of relief.
She quickly washed up and rushed out, wanting to ask Li Jingran about yesterday’s situation. But when she passed by the study room, she heard voices inside.
After hesitating for a moment, she knocked on the door.
The Butler opened the door and looked behind. “Miss Xu, are you here to see Director Li?”
Xu Wanwan nodded. “Yes! Mr. Li should be home today, right?”
She still remembered that Li Jingran had not been home for a long time. It was not easy for him to come back, but he had to bump into her when she was drunk. She had to explain no matter what.
The Butler turned sideways and stepped out. “Then I won’t bother you anymore.”
Xu Wanwan attempted to step in. Seeing that Li Jingran was still sitting in front of the desk, a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes.
It seemed that he did not want to see her at all..
Xu Wanwan pursed her lips and quickly adjusted her mood. The corners of her lips curled up into a smile. “Good afternoon.”
Li Jingran looked up at the girl with an exceptionally cold expression. “What’s the matter?”
Xu Wanwan couldn’t stand his attitude and was stunned for a long time. She lowered her head and said in a low voice, “You haven’t been home for a long time. Why did you——”
Before she could finish, Li Jingran said coldly, “Your friend called me last night and asked me to pick you up.”
Xu Wanwan stared at the ground. “Are you angry?”
Li Jingran’s face was tense, and his attitude was cold. He didn’t answer her question.
The atmosphere gradually became gloomy and inexplicably depressing.
Xu Wanwan was frightened. She was afraid that the man would chase her away, so she said with red eyes, “I was wrong. I will change. Can you not be angry?”
Li Jingran stopped his work and looked at the girl in front of him who was very obedient. He said seriously, “Then do you still remember what happened last night?”
Xu Wanwan rubbed her head and stood there in a daze for a long time. She looked at him pitifully and said, “I can’t remember.”
“You can’t remember?” Li Jingran narrowed his long and narrow eyes and asked deliberately.
Xu Wanwan’s heart turned cold. She anxiously wanted to explain to him. Her lips moved but she couldn’t say anything. However, her tears flowed uncontrollably.
She cried out in fear, her voice trembling. “Don’t blame me, okay? I won’t do this again.”
Li Jingran was stunned. He couldn’t bear to see her cry, so his heart softened.
But his tone was still serious. “Who allowed you to go out drinking alone?”
“Do you know it’s not safe outside? Why didn’t you tell me before you went?”
Xu Wanwan lowered her head and felt the chill in the air. Her shoulders trembled slightly from crying.
Li Jingran sighed lightly. In the end, he still lost.
He pulled out a piece of paper and walked to the girl. He bent down to meet her teary eyes and softened his tone. “Promise me that you’ll let me know truthfully wherever you go in the future.”
Xu Wanwan’s long eyelashes trembled slightly, and a drop of crystal-clear tears fell from the corner of her eyes. “Yes, I’ll promise to tell you in the future.”
“So, can you stop being angry at me?”
The caution in her eyes was like a sharp thorn, deeply piercing into Li Jingran’s heart.
His heart tightened and said in a low voice, “Yes, I’m not angry, so don’t cry.”
Xu Wanwan nodded and held back her tears very seriously.
Li Jingran’s brows relaxed a little, and he raised his hand to wipe away the tears on the girl’s cheeks. His eyes were unprecedentedly gentle.
Xu Wanwan stood in front of him like a child who had done something wrong. She was careful and flustered, so she did not see the concern in the man’s eyes.
After a while, when she saw that the man was not angry anymore, she suddenly thought of something. “Then can I tell you something?”
“Huh?” Li Jingran sat back down at the table. He flipped open the documents in front of him and looked up at the girl. “Say what you want to say.”
Xu Wanwan thought about it for a while and organized her words in her mind. “I heard from my classmates that Li Xuyi hasn’t been to school for a few days. Can you——”
Li Jingran’s expression turned colder. “Do you really care about him that much?”
“I didn’t mean anything by it,” Xu Wanwan quickly explained. “It’s just that there are a lot of courses in university. If Li Xuyi doesn’t go to school, he’ll definitely fail. I think he’ll definitely listen to you, so I’m telling you this.”
Li Jingran frowned and said in an unhappy tone, “He doesn’t go to school. I’ve already suspended his club. I shouldn’t care about the rest.”
“He might not be happy about the club being suspended, so he doesn’t go to school,” Xu Wanwan probed.
The more Li Jingran listened, the more unhappy he became.
Why did he feel that this girl was pleading for Li Xuyi now?
Was she worried that he would not go to school and that he would not eat well?
Could it be that she really liked Li Xuyi?
“Xu Wanwan, it has nothing to do with you that I’m educating my younger brother.”
Li Jingran’s voice was cold and indifferent. He was a completely different person from before as he continued to handle his work.
A trace of shock flashed past Xu Wanwan’s eyes. When she came back to her senses, she smiled bitterly. “I’m sorry, I spoke too much. I’ll go out now.”
She walked out in a hurry. The moment she closed the door, disappointment welled up in her heart..
