Half a year later…

The chaotic war the Demonic Cult wage on the various powers on the Maple Continent, which seemed never-ending actually came to a stop.

However, the Continent didn’t go back to its calm state. People who were in the know could not stop discussing the upcoming event.

THE CHOSEN TOURNAMENT!!

It was a first of its kind where Continent re-known geniuses would all compete for the top hundred spots. Everyone was boiling in excitement, especially when it was announced that geniuses from other Continents besides the Maple Continent and the Star Bound Continent would be attending.

The excitement reached its peak when it was just one week away from this world-shaking event, and emotions were high.

“Have you heard?! They say that tournament is going to be held on the Star Bound Continent!”

“I’ve heard, and the Mercenary Guild Association is the one responsible for carrying our geniuses to the Star Bound Continent. I heard that they’ve open slots to carry other passengers but for us cultivators, the price for such a slot is too astronomical.”

A group of cultivators was in a tavern discussing the hot topic that was spreading across the continent. The cultivator that just spoke shook his head in regret.

They could only discuss the topic but could never, afford to go see the event in person.

Suddenly, one of the cultivators smirked and said.

“Actually, I’ve secured a slot and I’ll be going to the Star Bound Continent!”

Everyone in the group turned to this person in shock. A few of them had their eyes flicker with a cold light, but upon thinking about this person’s background, they all gave up the idea of brutally killing him and taking away the slot.

This middle-aged man was the godson of the son of the daughter of an Elder in quite a mid-level Academy. It was his luck that his Godfather's mother look at him favorably and convince her father to allow him to attend.

Everyone around the table couldn’t help but feel jealous of this.

Before the mood could get sour, another cultivator off the group lowered his head and whispered.

pαпdα Йᴏνê|,сòМ “Hey, have you guys heard the rumors about the Second Prince and the reason for his sudden disappearance?”

Seeing this person’s sudden cautious attitude, everyone’s interest was piqued. They all gestured for him to continue, evident they haven’t heard of this news before.

That man down his alcohol before he said in a low tone with a grave expression.

“I heard the news being discussed by some disciples from the Auction house I worked at. They were saying that the terrifying lightning tribulation that appeared in the Li Clan some months ago was related to the trashy Second Prince.”

“What? How could that be?”

Someone suddenly interjected, but he was glared at by the man who said.

“Bastard, just let me finish instead of just jumping in.”

Without delay, the man followed up by continuing to retell what he heard.

“Alright, get this, not only did this Second Prince trigger a lightning tribulation somehow, but it was also said that the lightning tribulation was actually a Heavenly Calamity. They said that he was hiding his talents all along, and while secretly going through a breakthrough in the restricted area of his clan, the heavens were so angered by his talents that it sent that Heavenly Calamity to eradicate him.”

“Are your words true?!”

A cultivator who was just as stunned as everyone around the table asked with a gasp.

The man nodded and said.

“I’ve done some investigation myself. Remember that the Second Prince actually had two supreme-grade attributes? Because our perception was being clouded by him being called a trashy prince and various other names, people seemed to have forgotten about this fact, even me. But the rumors said that his talents were so heaven-defying, that during the Celestial Academy’s Disciple Selection Ceremony, the testing tool didn’t reveal his Foundation attribute because it was above the supreme grade!”

Everyone at the table immediately felt a wave of shock flood their hearts.

Could these rumors actually be true? That could very well explain the Second Prince’s sudden disappearance that even made people start to speculate that he was dead.

In a manor in the Ming Clan’s restricted area, there was an underground room known by only the upper echelons of the Ming Clan.

In this room, Ghuanyu was calmly sitting on a chair around a table with his eyes closed. Across from him was a man in dark robes, that gave off a weird aura that seemed to suck in any and all the light from the luminescent pearls lighting up the room.

He seemed to be the embodiment of the night. This simply dressed middle-aged man was Patriarch Evernight. The leader of the Dark Moon Assassins Guild and the entire Demonic Cult.

Patriarch Evernight’s eyes were close similar to Ghuanyu, they seemed to be waiting for someone.

Suddenly, movement was seen from Ghuanyu who flipped over his palm and took out a one-way communication jade slip.

Upon reading the contents of the message, Ghuanyu’s expression changed slightly.

His eyes swept across Patriarch Evernight for a moment before he said slowly.

“Since we will be partners for some time, it is best if brother Evernight doesn’t withhold information from our Ming Clan.”

Patriarch Evernight slowly opened his eyes and shot Ghuanyu a confused look.

“You old bat, what the hell are you talking about?”

Ignoring Patriarch Evernight’s way of speaking, Ghuanyu calmly said.

“I’ve received rumors going around about the disappearance of the Second Prince. I assume your men inside the Li Clan were the ones that spread it?”

Patriarch Evernight’s expression became even more confused upon hearing that.

Ghuanyu seeing this hesitated. He handed over the communication jade slip to Patriarch Evernight, who upon reading the information frowned slightly.

“This was not spread by my Dark Moon Guild, you should know about the capabilities of the Li Clan’s Guardian Treasure and the difficulty to infiltrate their family. All the members we sent inside, even the ones we groomed knowingly and unknowingly to have the Li Clan’s bloodline, were snuffed out quickly. But if those rumors are indeed true, then it’s a good thing that brat is already dead. A grade that surpasses the Supreme grade?”

Patriarch Evernight snorted before saying.

“That sounds impossible but if he was still alive, I would have placed an S-tier bounty on his head. Even if he fled to the other Continents he would still be hunted down and killed.”

As Ghuanyu received back his communication jade slip from Patriarch Evernight, he asked.

“How can you be sure of the rumors he’s truly dead?”

Patriarch Evernight frowned.

The rumors stated that the Second Prince faced a Heavenly Calamity and not a Heavenly Tribulation. No records of someone surviving a Heavenly Calamity were ever recorded on the Maple Continent, even though Heavenly Calamities had only occurred a few times throughout its history.

Ghuanyu was just being overly cautious. However, despite thinking that, Patriarch Evernight paused to think for a moment. He then took out a jade slip and sent a message.

It was really better to be safe than sorry. No matter how small or insignificant the problem may be, it was necessary to use every means to stomp it out. Their plans were on track and they didn’t want anything unforeseen to crop up suddenly because of negligence.

“I’ve ordered an investigation, any news of this will reach our ears shortly.”

Patriarch Evernight said as he put away his communication jade slip. The two then went back to waiting patiently.

This was a testament to the broad information and in-depth network of the Demonic Cult, specifically the Dark Moon Assassins Guild.

With members practically in every power across the Continent, their information-gathering skills were among the best on the Continent.

The only ones compared to it were the Ming Clan’s Hidden Puppet Master’s information network, as could be seen that Ghuanyu received the rumors information before Patriarch Evernight. The other ones were the Mercenary Guild Association’s own network, the Li Clan’s Noble Family the Zhi Clan, and lastly, a new mysterious force that even the four parties couldn’t identify.

As they waited in the room for a few minutes, runic symbols suddenly lit up on the empty chair to the left of Ghuanyu.

Ghuanyu open his eyes and performed several hand seals. The stone room they were in shone with multicolored runic patterns that blocked out any possible way to spy into this room.

A sort of pressure even enveloped the room, causing Patriarch Evernight to frown slightly, but only for a moment before he ignored it.

Even communication jade slips would no longer work in the room.

As this was finished, the runic symbol lights on the chair reached their peak. Soon the outline of a transparent figure could be seen, which quickly turn clear to reveal an old man holding a cane in front of him.

Seeing this old man, Ghuanyu and Patriarch Evernight actually stood up and greeted him.

“Welcome, Third Monarch Gu!!”
