63 Outside City A

“They’re following my father.” Jake waved his hand. “Anyway, my dad always think that I’m such a troublemaker and didn’t even bother sending anyone to protect me after I quarreled with them.”

Kyle was speechless.

Well, whatever. It was not his business to meddle with his friend’s family affair. All that he knew was that he will bring Jake along with him when he got out of City A along with the others.

The armored vehicle was indeed big, but it definitely felt a bit cramped with so many people.

There were 6 people: Kate’s parents, Dr. Dall, Jake, Dylan, and Kyle.

If added Kate, it will be seven, but naturally Kyle didn’t count his little cat as a person. She will not take up any space when she was sitting on his lap anyway.

Thus, Kyle sat on the passenger seat while Jake was driving. The others were sitting at the back.

“I think that your little cat is a monster.” Jake could remember the scene of Kate sweeping all the other two malls and felt that the space that Kate could carry was simply bottomless. It was to the point that he felt it would be useless for them to try finding other space awakener.

Those people will never be able to match the space Kate had.

.....

Kyle chuckled. “All of us had advanced to rank 4, so shouldn’t you think that we’re all monster by now?”

Their abilities had increased by leaps and bounds. The one with the lowest ability among the three of them were Dylan because his ability had transformed slightly to allow him to form ice at the expense of having his advancement stopped a bit.

It seemed that the more elements they had, the slower their progress will be.

Though, that rule didn’t seem to apply that much for Kyle and Kate.

“The insects are waking up one by one along with the humans.” Jake frowned when he heard the scream from the distance.

“We can’t help all of them.” Kyle shook his head.

Their ability had advanced, yes.

But it didn’t mean that they could use their ability recklessly.

Even Kate was tired after eliminating quite a lot of insects. They had also been cleaning the road they passed by, so their power had been diminishing. If not for them carrying the crystal in their hand, their power wouldn’t have recovered so quickly.

It was Kate who was the most leisure because she only responsible for picking the crystal up.

For her, it was a very easy job.

“Are you also an awakened, Dr. Dall?”

“No.” Dr. Dall’s expression was ugly when he thought about his colleague who showed off their ability and could do experiment on themselves. For these people, they didn’t care even if the target of experiment was themselves as long as they could achieve good result.

He could only collect some samples through other ways for him to do his research.

“That’s too bad. If you have some kind of ability, you can help us. Anyway, there are more people who might have first awaken their ability through this second red rain, you know?”

“Talking about second awakening... that’s indeed true. I received some messages from around 9 O’clock that some people who previously had no power had some kind of strange ability now.” Dr. Dall sighed. “Unfortunately, they’re not in City A.”

“Meow~.”

“Turn on the radio. Let’s listen to whatever they are saying.”

“Ok.

“Wait, where are we going?” Jake steered the car as they got out of City A. Behind them were several cars from Dylan’s group. They would keep their distance and tried not to disturb the group at the front.

“City B.”

“Why?”

“Dylan’s family are there.” Kyle glanced at Jake. “We’ll visit our parents at later time.”

Jake grumbled internally but nodded. He used one of his hand to turn on the car’s radio so that they could listen to the recent news.

“The signal is not really good,” Jake complained.

“It seems that we now know that the reason why some animals are not going crazy is because they’re not directly exposed to the red rain.” Kyle glanced at the radio.

“Who’s the one giving this news?”

“Military.”

“Oh.”

Dr. Dall rubbed his short beard with thoughtful expression. “Maybe if we can find out more about it, it’ll be possible for us to know the real reason why these mutated animals even want to attack humans.”

“Can Little Kitty communicate with them?” Jake asked curiously.

“Meow?”

Kate had never tried to communicate with them before.

Reason?

She couldn’t even stand the look of those rats and insects. Don’t ask her to try because she definitely didn’t want to try talking with rats and insects.

“Would you like to try?”

Kate shook her head and showed her back to Jake.

Jake didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he saw the cute gesture from Kate. He was only trying an alternative, but it didn’t seem that Kate liked it.

“Anyway, let’s finish out these insects out here.”

“...This is truly a sea of insects.”

As they got out and saw the scenery outside the city, their eyes were blinded by the sheer amount of giant insects.

If those giant rats, rabbits, and some other small animals were tolerable, these insects were definitely the worse. Not to mention that they were all waking up one after another and seemed to be aiming for them.
