Chapter 697 Taking Over
Governor’s Hall
"Sir, that’s all we have in hand for the activity," one of the officials raised his head and gave the report of what they had prepared.
The governor was sitting in his place as he listened listlessly. No matter which angle he saw this, he still couldn’t think of it as a good plan because of the current condition of this city. It was simply impossible for him to think that it was good because they couldn’t possibly show the rubbles.
Many of them were still over there, waiting to be cleaned up. It had disrupted the traffic jam heavily. Not to mention, the culprit was still out there, waiting until he could move freely and attack them once more.
"Review the schedule once more. I don’t want to see any loopholes," the governor ordered.
The officials did as they were told. Right now, it was clear that their life was hanging on a thin thread. The event of them coming to this city would determine their entire future. If they didn’t do anything soon, they would die.
"Governor, are you sure that you’ll be the one to accompany the two representatives," one of the officials asked with doubt.
Even though the governor was someone with the highest ranking here, he was not a charismatic man. The only reason he could be chosen was because of the backing that he had during the election. As for the power, it was pretty clear that he didn’t have any trait that was suitable to make him the leader.
The governor had black lines on his face. "I’m the highest ranking in this city, so it’s obvious that I’m the one that should represent the city!"
Pfft!
The hall turned into a complete silent. The officials were on alert because they didn’t expect someone to laugh during an important meeting like his. Mind you, they might die if they didn’t manage to please the representatives that will come here in a day.
The governor felt like he was being tested. He was already being patient enough all these times, but the men around him didn’t give him any face at all.
"WHO IS IT?" he roared angrily.
A young man stood up and the hall’s atmosphere turned even solemn. Even though the young man was still in his early twenties, no one dared to offend this man at all. They had seen how this man conducted himself in the meeting not long ago.
"I’m the one who laughs, Governor," the young man, Jason Wells, smiled brightly. "Is there anything wrong with laughing when I hear something funny?"
"You-you-you...!" the governor truly wished for nothing more than slamming the young man with everything he got. Previously, he cowered in fear because of the medicine’s effect. But after several weeks, he realized that his body’s condition was still alright. This made him doubt Jason’s words.
Jason shrugged. "I’m Jason Wells. I’m sure that my face is pretty famous. If you want to ask for my name, I can tell you over and over that I’m Jason Wells."
Pfft!
More officials were trying to hide their laugh when they saw Jason nonchalant manner. Even though his words were not wrong, they knew that the governor didn’t ask for his name. After all, who didn’t know the name ’Jason Wells’ after the incident before the battle?
"What are you doing here?" one of the officials on the governor’s side tried to speak up.
"I’m here to say that I’m the one who will accompany the representatives from the country’s government," Jason replied calmly.
The way he said it was like it was a fact and not a question. Even though they knew that this man was extremely demanding, they secretly agreed with his opinion. Why? It was no other than the fact that his name had resounded loudly.
While the governor was just someone whose name was rather unknown, Jason has been known to many places because of his position as the ’perfect successor’ in Wells Family. As the largest family, Wells Family has many connections outside the city, so it was clear that many people knew about them.
Comparing the two of them would be like comparing a shining diamond with a rusty rock.
The governor’s face turned blue. "Are you saying that you’re more suitable to accompany the representatives more than me?"
"Yes," Jason replied bluntly. "Do you think they’ll prefer seeing a young man or an old man?"
This time, some officials had to clamp their mouths to avoid any voice come out. Right now, Jason was only comparing their appearance. While it was true that Jason was extremely good looking, the governor was not that bad. It was just unfortunate that the governor was already rather old.
"Don’t you think they’ll look down at this city if the one who comes out is a young man like you?"
"I don’t think so," Jason smirked. "Once I introduce myself, I doubt that they’re going to say anything like that."
The governor opened his mouth and closed it down again. He just looked like a fish gasping for breath right now, but there was nothing that he could do. Everything that Jason told him was correct. The prestige of Wells Family is much higher than an unknown governor like him.
"Anyone disagree?" Jason swept his glance across the hall.
Compared to when the governor nominated himself, the officials didn’t voice out any complaint. The most famous person in this city was none other than Jason Wells. Even though some of them didn’t want to admit it, they have to give way because it would be the most appropriate way.
The governor snorted. "Remember that you’re the one who asked for this position."
"I know." Jason shrugged.
"The fate of this city is in your hand. If you do anything that makes them displeased, you’ll be the one to be chased by the people."
His words were clearly a threat and reminder at the same time. If Jason didn’t manage to obtain their words that they saw this city in a better light, they would have to say goodbye to this city. And it meant that the blame will be put on Jason’s shoulder.
However, Jason was unperturbed. During his time as the successor of Wells Family, he had received threats numerous times that he couldn’t remember their number anymore. It was extremely common for him to receive the threat for this and that.
"You should be grateful Old Pig. I’m sure that you’ll be more than happy to hand over the position to me given that your words signify that you’re not ready to shoulder something so big."
Jason’s words were full of insults that the officials have to give him applause for his bravery. However, Jason was not finished.
"But let me remind you something. If you dare to do something behind our back, I’ll make sure that your family’s name will be tarnished, your family will be killed, and your corpse will be given to the dogs," Jason said coldly. His expression was extremely serious and full of ruthlessness as if he wouldn’t hesitate to do every single thing that he said.
The officials’ face paled considerably. Just considering what Jason might do to them already sent them to the brink of desperation. It was simply too tragic for them to think whether it would happen to them or not. Their body shivered in fear.
The governor was not any better. He turned around and stomped his feet on the floor before darting out of the room.
Jason turned his face back to the others with a smile on his face. "Now, shall we review the schedule again?"
"Y-yes."
On the back, Wells Family Head was watching his son’s performance in silence. Even though there was no trace of emotion on his face, his eyes never left his son at all. No one knew what he was thinking.
