This was the first time Arthur was using the Key Spear Dietrich and its effects were obvious. A level 8 Adult Black scruff wolf was nothing in front of it, its defenses being pierced easily and dying in one hit.
'The speed difference is also good, not to mention the extended reach.' Arthur was feeling the benefits of using a spear.
He could attack faster than usual and could even keep distance between him and the enemy. It reduced his chances of getting injured and allowed him better maneuverability.
"No wonder Spear were preferred over swords in the past." Arthur muttered to himself as he quickly lunged towards the second wolf.
"GRRR~!" The Wolves were certainly not pleased by his approach and retaliated by swiping with their claws.
~CLANG~
Arthur easily sidestepped the first wolf and blocked the second's attack with the spear. Then without stopping, he swiped the spear horizontally, leaving a long gash on the second wolf's body.
~Whimper~

The insides of the Adult Black Scruff Wolf could be seen, with the long cut that was left on its body. The white bones peeked out while the sinews wrapped around it, some of them having been torn as well.
~Clang~
"Really impatient, huh…" Arthur flicked the spear and blocked the bite of the first wolf.
It tried to pull the spear away from Arthur's hands, but couldn't do so due to the difference between their strength.
"If you want it so much, I'll give it to you!" Arthur suddenly pushed towards the wolf, sending it tumbling back.
But since it had been biting on the spear's shaft, the blade head moved and sliced apart its jaws!

With a rather severe injury, the wolf whimpered in pain, allowing Arthur an opportunity to strike again.

>Player Arzhur has killed an Adult Black Scruff Wolf!<
Arthur quickly moved onto the other wolf who was barely able to stand now. Another stab was all it took to end its life as well.[Critical Hit!]

>Player Arzhur has killed an Adult Black Scruff Wolf!<
>Player Arzhur has obtained 1% Experience<
"Took three level 8 Adult Black Scruff wolves to give 1%… Hmm, while the experience gain certainly falls after you hit level 10, this seems a bit faster than normal." Arthur muttered thinking whether it was due to the fact that he had already obtained a class.
That was the only option that seemed viable to him, as there were no other factors in play here.
"Let's continue onwards…" Arthur pushed the thought away and proceeded deeper into the forest.
He didn't bother butchering the Adult Black Scruff Wolf corpses as it wasn't worth his time now. The price he would get for their pelts was actually lower in Roran town, as that place had several strong people who could easily obtain them.
Not to mention, Arthur's attacks had damaged the pelt quite a bit and wouldn't net him a decent amount. Then there was the fact, that he was already carrying quite a lot of items with him. He didn't want to increase his burden and slow down his progress.
'I should reach the Roran town today itself.' Arthur had set a goal for today.
He spent three hours reaching the area that he had found the Great Horn Bramble beetle and it was already afternoon by then. And yet, Arthur's journey was not even half done. He had also fought several more Adult Black Scruff Wolves along the way and obtained 5% experience.
One could see that the experience gain was really inefficient here. Thus it was in one's benefit to quickly head to the town and then hunt in the areas nearby for better mobs.
"Hmm, now to find the path." Arthur said as he stood in the farthest spot that he had reached last time.
He was near a small hill that was surrounded by tall trees.
'I've already searched the areas around the hill last time I came here, but there was no path there.' Arthur thought. 'Which means… the passage should be past this hill. I'll have to cross it directly.' He decided.
~HOWL~
A minute was all it took, before Arthur heard the familiar howl of Adult Black Scruff Wolves.
"Here we go again," Arthur was used to it by now and was expecting them to show up anyways.
A group of eight wolves appeared, all looking aggressive and offended that someone had intruded into their territory.
~BARK!~
But this time there was an outlier among the Adult Black Scruff Wolves. One that was fifty percent larger than the other Adult Black Scruff Wolves had appeared too.
"Oh? This is the first time I'm seeing a variant." Arthur muttered as he saw a wolf that stood out among the rest.
ραndαsΝοvεl ƈοm It had thicker fur than the other wolves and also had several scars on its body. The biggest was a long scar that went across its eye, leaving it blind in its left eye. Its tail was also strange, having been bitten off at the end.
"Dragon's Insight!" Arthur quickly used the skill, wanting to see more information about the beast.
>Dragon's Insight Activated!<
>Skill has been successfully executed!<

Looking at the notification window, Arthur could see that he had come across a variant just as he had thought.
'The leader of the wolves huh… guess this makes it half a boss.' Arthur thought.
It was the second level 10 beast that Arthur had found that was also at the rare rank. The first one that he had hunted was the Razer Tusk Boar and it was only due to the quest that he had manged to find it.
'But this one is the leader of the wolves. This battle will be different from the Razer tusk Boar as it should be able to coordinate with the other wolves.' Arthur analyzed.
Having encountered a variant like this, Arthur wasn't intimidated. Rather, he was excited as he knew that he would be able to fully use the Key Spear Dietrich now.
'The others died in just a couple of hits, but this one should be able to make me used it further.' Arthur thought.
~GRRR~
But just as he was about to attack, he saw something strange.
The Adult Black Scruff Wolf Leader growled at the other wolves, making them step back.
"Huh?" Arthur was surprised seeing this, wondering what it was doing.
He paused his attack and wanted to see what it was going to do. At the same time, he looked at the additional line that was added to the bottom of the information window about the Adult Black Scruff Wolf Leader.
'Ah yes! Dragon's Insight can show me additional information due to its higher rank.' Arthur recalled.
The information window was usually set to a smaller summary, so as to not distract the player during combat. Higher ranked appraisal skills could show it all at once, but since Arthur hadn't used it fully on mobs before, it was still set to the smaller summer by default.
But one could always change it to a detailed window if they wished for it.
"Show full information." Arthur ordered.

Arthur was surprised by the amount of information that Dragon's insight gave.
"I knew it was good, but this… is on another level." Arthur reckoned this was more details than even the Appraisal skill of the Lore Gluttons guild leader.
Not only had Arthur obtained the detailed stats of the beast, he had also seen the skills of the beast. Usually these were hidden and players had to spend a lot of effort in trying to figure them out.
This was why hunting bosses was often difficult as one needed to first spend a few tries in just trying to see what skills a boss used.
'But what's up with the history of the wolf? I don't think any appraisal skill gave that…'
