Chapter 72: Super Delicious
Xiang Kun knew that Yang Zhen’er’s father seemed to be a big shot in a pharmaceutical company and might have considerable influence in the city. It seemed evident that he wanted to assist him with his job problem?
However, Xiang Kun could only refuse tactfully, suggesting that he had been working extremely hard for several years and wanted to rest for a while.
Yang Kuoyan didn’t insist, leaving his number with Xiang Kun and suggesting that he could call him if he needed any help.
Initially, Yang Kuoyan wanted to invite the four of them to dine with him, but
Xiang Kun tactfully refused saying he had something else to do. Seeing Yang Zhen’er and Xia Libing were also unwilling, Yang Kuoyan could only warn Yang Zhen’er to drive carefully, and got into a Mercedes S class that was waiting at the police station parking lot.
Yang Zhen’er seemed somewhat excited. Accidentally getting involved and busting a child trafficking case, and catching all four suspects, made her feel like she’d been part of a significant event.
“Xiang Kun, let’s go to Nana’s home and hang out. You can choose what you want for dinner, or we can buy ingredients on the way home and cook ourselves,” Yang Zhen’er suggested.
To Xiang Kun’s surprise, this was the first time she had called him by name. Previously, it had either been “Mr. Xiang” or “Teacher Saitama”.
“No, I wasn’t just being polite when I declined your father’s invitation. I really have something to do.”
The horse-riding session in the afternoon was pre-arranged, but he had training plans scheduled for the rest of his time. He intended he would complete as much training as possible before the next blood-drinking period arrived.
“What do you have to do? Aren’t you temporarily jobless?” Yang Zhen’er probed.
Tang Baona interrupted, “Alright, let Xiang Kun go if he’s busy. After we eat, we will also have to return home. After such an event, we have to go home and ‘report’. Otherwise, your mom will probably come knocking at our doors tonight.”
In fact, she was as excited over the incident as Yang Zhen’er, but knowing how Xiang Kun was, unless there was a compelling reason, it would be nearly impossible to change his mind, once he had decided on something. He wouldn’t intentionally accommodate them just because they were girls.
Xiang Kun initially wanted to take a cab home, but since Yang Zhen’er insisted on dropping him, he didn’t refuse.
As they walked toward Yang Zhen’er’s BMW X3, Xiang Kun looked awkwardly at the indented portion of the side panel caused by his fall. Damage from the rear-end collision seemed insignificant when compared to the dent caused by him being “pushed over” by the driver of the car.
Yang Zhen’er, however, didn’t mind. She was accustomed to her battle-scarred car getting a few extra scratches. Moreover, she felt that if anyone was to be blamed, it should be the vile child traffickers.
Once Yang Zhen’er drove out of the police station’s car park, she subconsciously started driving towards the area where Xiang Kun previously stayed.
“I don’t live there anymore,” Xiang Kun said, giving her the address of his new residence.
Yang Zhen’er complained, “When did you move house, and why so silently? Were you afraid we would make you throw a party?
“I moved there a while ago as my lease expired,” Xiang Kun replied, ignoring her teasing.
“Xiang Kun, how did you initially spot that something was off with those people?” Tang Baona asked, curiosity piqued.
“After getting out of the car, I saw the children in their backseat, so I was a bit suspicious. I called the police to test their reactions, and their unusually excessive response, including wanting to leave immediately, confirmed my suspicions. Anyway, in such cases, it’s preferable to be misunderstood and apologize later, than to let actual traffickers escape with the children.”
Xiang Kun, of course, couldn’t disclose the information he obtained using his hearing and sense of smell. With insufficient evident justification, he had to rely on voicing his suspicions.
The three girls in the car nodded their heads in affirmation.
They despised child traffickers. Especially after witnessing the two unconscious boys being carried out of the car, they felt even more that the four individuals deserved to be punished. Without this incident, it’s hard to imagine where those adorable boys would have ended up.
However, Xia Libing gave Xiang Kun a peculiar look. From her observations, Xiang Kun seemed much more confident than his explanation revealed.
“Xiang Kun, you pretended to fall when the driver pushed against you initially, didn’t you? Given your physical ability, how could you stumble so exaggeratedly?” Tang Baona questioned further.
Yang Zhen’er, mimicking Xiang Kun’s earlier cries, said, “Assault! They assaulted someone! I’ll fight you to the death-! Xiang Kun, has anyone ever told you that your acting skills are terrible?”
Returning home and halfway through unlocking the door, Room 706 door swung open and Little Fat Girl Liu Shiling ran out, holding the soup pot that was used for the Spicy Rabbit Meat during lunch.
Accepting the cleaned soup pot and a lollipop from Little Fat Girl’s hand, Xiang
Kun asked with a smile, “So, how was the rabbit meat? Was it good?”
Little Fatty Girl nodded vigorously, “Delicious! Super delicious! Thank you,
Uncle Bald!”
When Little Fat Girl first met Xiang Kun if she called him “Uncle Bald” , Shiling’s Mom would rectify her strictly. However, perhaps due to the strong suggestion by Xiang Kun’s bald head, she couldn’t resist calling him “Uncle Bald”. After Xiang Kun reassured Shiling’s Mom that the nickname was endearing and he didn’t mind it, she finally resigned and let her daughter call him that.
However, maybe it was his imagination, but today when Little Fat Girl called him “Uncle Bald”, it seemed to have an added sense of reverence and familiarity compared to usual.
Could it be because of the Spicy Rabbit Meat?
Greeting Shiling’s Mom who was looking on amusedly from the doorway of room 706, Xiang Kun asked, “So, was the rabbit meat too spicy? I know you are all People of Xiangchu, so I added extra spice.”
“Super delicious!” Liu Shiling shouted once again, although the comment was not directed at her.
Shiling’s Mom agreed, “It was indeed very delicious. The spiciness was just right. It tasted much better than any dish from an outside restaurant. I didn’t expect you, Mr. Xiang, to be such a good cook! I originally thought you rarely cooked at home! Because of the Spicy Rabbit meat gift today, Shiling ate half more than usual for lunch…
After exchanging pleasantries with Shiling’s Mom, Xiang Kun returned to his flat.
He was slightly pleased that the Spicy Rabbit Meat he cooked, which took considerable effort, was appreciated. Even though Shling’s Mom may have been just being polite, Little Fat Girl wouldn’t lie about such matters.
Maybe, in the future, he could start up his own food channel, and make videos showcasing his various modified recipes?
Sitting in front of his computer, he opened a document and began going over his experiences at the horse-riding paddock.
Though he hadn’t managed to ride a horse today, the influence he had over the horses at the paddock had revealed a novel aspect of his bodily mutation that was quite beneficial.
He was clear about one thing – his ability to intimidate animals had significantly improved and had even undergone a fundamental transformation.
However, he wondered, how wide was the range of animals that were affected by this newfound ability? Would it work on ferocious animals like lions and tigers?
