As the tornado of crimson lightning gradually withered, Gagiel's body began to free fall towards the ground, the exhaustion of his incredible feat evident in his weary descent.
The enraged demons, witnessing an opportunity to strike down the commander, surged forward, but they weren't the only ones who moved with breathtaking speed.
A demi-human belonging to the rare avian species, known for their unparalleled swiftness, darted like a blur, reaching Gagiel before he could plummet halfway.
However, he wasn't the only one to reach Gagiel as two demons appeared simultaneously, one swinging a sword aimed to decapitate Gagiel, the other thrusting a spear directly at his heart.
The situation was dire, and knowing he couldn't dodge both attacks in time, without hesitation, he placed his arm in the way of the sword, which got sliced clean with little resistance.
However, this split-second delay allowed the captain to shift slightly back, causing the sword to slice through Gagiel's chest instead of slicing his head.
Simultaneously, the demon's spear pierced through Gagiel's stomach before going through the captain's guts, and even with his arm sliced and stomach pierced, he didn't waver and used his dark, feathery wings to push himself back while firmly holding his commander.
The captain, bleeding profusely, spun around and zoomed toward the barrier while the various other captains stopped any demons or attacks that tried to stop him.
All of this unfolded in mere seconds, a whirlwind of action and sacrifice in the heart of the battle. Gagiel, now in the hands of his comrades, was alive, albeit grievously wounded, and out of battle, but he had accomplished his goal.
Commander Gagiel's final, devastating attack left an indelible mark on the battlefield as the relentless storm of crimson lightning claimed the lives of more than forty fifth-Rank demons.
The overall count of high-ranking demons killed by Gagiel exceeded a hundred, leaving a glaring void in the demon forces while also killing thousands of lesser demons in his rampage and more so in his final attack.
Gagiel's efforts had balanced the battlefield, and even though demons still outnumbered humans two to one in fifth-rank warriors. However, humans now had slightly more peak fifth-rank individuals, who were the strongest on the battlefield, giving them a much better chance of victory.
ραΠdαsΝοvel.cοm The healers stabilized Commander Gagiel's condition and healed the captain, while the battle outside continued with the humans fighting with a newfound hope to win this battle.
Alex still hoped for help to arrive because he knew that even outnumbered, the demons would still win if the aid didn't arrive because he knew from his past life how the demons had access to some form of material, a dark crystal that allowed a demon to burn his vitality to gain a tremendous boost of strength.
After consuming the dark crystal, a fifth Rank demon could reach the peak of the sixth rank in a matter of seconds with the strength to dominate any other sixth-rank individual and maintain his form for close to ten minutes before dropping dead.
As the relentless battle raged on, both sides suffered grievous losses, and with Commander Gagiel's absence from the battlefield, the demons shifted their focus to the barriers.
The soldiers, driven by unyielding determination, did an admirable job of holding the demons at bay for an additional twenty minutes.
However, their efforts were severely tested as tens of fifth-rank demons pressed forward, their overwhelming might posing a dire threat to the human forces.
The demons relentlessly hammered at the barriers, their ferocity and power gradually chipping away at its defense.
The strain on the human soldiers was immense, especially those of fourth-rank standing who were tasked with holding back the extra fifth-rank demons.
Despite their valiant efforts, the barrier of the nearest district to the one where Alex was engaged in combat finally succumbed to the relentless onslaught, and as it shattered, chaos ensued within the breached district.
After the barrier broke, it was complete chaos as the soldiers did their best to keep the demons from entering while the mage tower, free from keeping the barrier up, started to rain down tens of spells on the demons.
The soldier kept their formation while sending support to the breached district, knowing the remaining three districts they were protecting held the same value as the one that got breached.
The soldiers demonstrated their unwavering commitment to defend those they had sworn to protect. They refused to allow the demons to run rampant, even in the face of overwhelming odds.
Demons who managed to breach their defenses faced relentless pursuit, and these clashes within the district resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives.
The battle continued to escalate in intensity, and the breached district descended into a nightmarish chaos, with thousands of citizens losing their lives every minute as more and more demons poured inside.
After a grueling twenty additional minutes, another district's barrier shattered, while the first breached district was now engulfed in flames, and nearly a third of its citizens had met a tragic end.
At this moment, a primal roar echoed through the city, which Alex recognized what it signified, and as he turned his gaze toward the source of the roar, his thoughts were confirmed.
A demon gargoyle emanating with a dark and chaotic aura stood in the sky, with his muscles visibly bulging while his mana pressure increased with every passing moment, signifying his constantly growing strength.
Before the stunned and bewildered eyes of the soldiers, the gargoyle's strength got elevated to the sixth Rank, and it didn't stop there but it kept increasing, and with it, the malevolent and sickening pressure radiating from the demon.
The majority of clashes came to a halt as everyone shifted their focus toward the demon gargoyle, and while demons roared in triumph, the humans felt despair.
'Time to leave,' Alex thought, knowing the humans were domed and there was no point in staying in the city anymore.
Alex felt bad for the millions who would lose their life, but he did what he could to save them, and it was up to fate if they would survive or would get slaughtered, just like in his previous life.
Alex used phantom walk to arrive next to Lady Zefney, who had recently joined the battlefield along with numerous other citizens, and without saying a word to her, he took out a teleportation scroll.
Alex activated the scroll that had no set coordinates and would teleport him and any two individuals to a random place a hundred kilometers from his location.
Alex held the shimmering scroll, ready to place his hand on Lady Zefney's shoulder, who stood stunned like everyone else, watching the demon gargoyle with a mixture of terror and helplessness in her eyes.
"It seems I've arrived just in time," A calm and composed female voice resonated throughout the gloomy atmosphere of the city.
All eyes simultaneously shifted toward the source of the voice and were met with the sight of breathtaking eleven beauty standing in the sky above the roaring demon gargoyle.
The elven lady had bewitching beauty and elegance, her gown, a bright sapphire adorned with intricate silver patterns that sparkled like starlight, cascaded gracefully around her.
She had long, flowing white hair that cascaded around her like a shimmering waterfall of pristine snow, while her iridescent green eyes held the wisdom of ages, and around her was an undeniable aura of authority.
'Looks like I won't need this,' Alex thought with a smile as he crushed the scroll, destroying it.
